Bike for Good is a charity and social enterprise which started in July 2010 in a small stall in Glasgow’s Barras market. With a few donated bikes, a cobbled-together tool kit and a team of volunteers with a huge amount of passion and drive, Bike for Good (then known as Glasgow Bike Shed) was born! We now have three thriving Community Hubs in Glasgow and an amazing team of 42 staff members and 50 + volunteers who are changing thousands of lives through cycling. Many of our wonderful volunteers have shared their experiences of working with Bike for Good through our online case studies. Bike for Good provides access to low cost but good quality bikes whilst diverting tonnes of waste from landfill. These bikes are kindly donated by members of the public and are then refurbished and sold in our two Community Hubs. Find out more about how to donate your bike. On average, our team of mechanics refurbish over 1000 bikes per year, diverting tonnes of waste from landfill while also providing access to affordable bikes to the public. Find out more about how to buy a refurbished bike. As well as the environmental impact of this work, the income from bike sales helps to fund our work in the community. To keep your bike in tip-top condition, our expert mechanics offer a comprehensive bike maintenance and repair service. The aim is to keep you cycling all year round. In addition, we offer a comprehensive programme of inclusive projects which promote, support and encourage greater levels of cycling. Cycling has a multitude of benefits for society, from environmental improvements to health promotion and financial savings. We have created a series of projects and services which seek to highlight this to the public and fill a gap in current provision. We are a unique collaborative project providing free legal information, advice, representation and advocacy support to self-identifying women in Scotland affected by violence and abuse (read our inclusion statement here). Our services include legal and advocacy helplines, legal advice surgeries, advocacy support and legal representation. You can find a list of our services here. Our mission Our Centre strives to fill the gaps that exist between women’s experiences of gender-based violence and their ability to access justice by working with specialist solicitors and experienced advocacy workers. Informed by our direct work with victims/survivors of violence and abuse, we seek to influence national policy, research and training to improve processes and systems, and ultimately to improve justice outcomes for women who have experienced gender-based violence. The Scottish Women’s Rights Centre is a collaboration between Rape Crisis Scotland, JustRight Scotland and the University of Strathclyde Law Clinic. Govan High Language & Communication Resource (LCR) is co-located within Govan High (mainstream) School. The LCR opened in 2003. It is a citywide provision to support young people, of secondary school age, who have a range of language and communication needs, related to their Autistic Spectrum Disorder diagnosis. The current LCR role is 34 pupils. Although our LCR pupils experience challenges related to their ASD, the majority are academically capable of accessing the secondary curriculum, with support. The curriculum will be the similar to that being offered within Govan High. At Broad General Education stage pupils will be taught mainly by LCR staff within the LCR classrooms. All S1 – S3 pupils access PE, Modern Languages and Science in Govan High School using Govan High School teachers, supported by LCR staff. At Senior Phase (S4 – S6), students have the additional option of accessing part of their curriculum through school-link or vocational courses at FE Colleges within Glasgow. This is in addition to courses being offered in both Govan High School and the LCR. LCR staff support pupils academically as well as promoting the acquisition of social, organisational and independent living skills. A number of staff are also trained to offer support with mental health, sleep, bereavement and emotional regulation issues

Leading building and construction specialist, The JR Group, has launched a new scaffold inspection service as part of its new training services division. The service will provide a thorough seven-day scaffolding inspection in accordance with the Working at Height Regulations, 2005. The launch from the firm, which has more than 25 years of expertise in the field, meets massive demand from the sector, offering a fully compliant service to comply with SG4. As well as mandatory weekly scaffold inspections, the team will also provide one off inspections, independent scaffold inspections, Anchor Tie Pull Out Testing, PASMA aluminium tower inspections, advanced design structure inspections and incident and accident investigations. Expert advice on access solutions will also be on offer. All audits and inspection reports will provide detailed information regarding remedial works required within an appropriate timescale, complete with photographs. Ronnie Charters, HSEQ Manager for JR Scaffold will be leading with the new inspection service. He has more 30 years’ experience within the scaffold industry and is the current regional chair for Scotland / Northern Ireland for NASC. As the NCC / CITB access instructor / safety advisor for all National Construction colleges throughout the UK, Ronnie has been carrying out safety site audits and scaffolding weekly inspections for various clients throughout the UK and abroad for more than 20 years. Ronnie Charters, HSEQ Manager, said: “We are very excited to be able to offer this invaluable service to the industry considering the current high demand, and at the same time satisfying the shortage of accredited, competent personnel available to carry out this type of work. “The demand for this type of service is massive as there is a conflict of interest once a company erects a structure and carries out its own scaffold inspections. Introducing an impartial company to carry out audits and inspections provides peace of mind for all involved. “By using a service like this, it will ensure that all scaffold structures meet appropriate safety standards before first use, and they will be inspected at intervals of no more than the seven days until it is dismantled. It will inspect structures after extreme weather conditions, high winds or any other events likely to affect its strength or stability, as well as after any substantial additions or alterations or after any unauthorised or third-party interference. “We look forward to rolling this service out, providing much-needed support to the sector.” The JR Group employs around 200 staff and was founded in Govan in 1995. It started as a scaffolding business and is now one of the largest building and construction firms in Scotland. The business operates throughout Scotland and Northern England working on behalf of a number of the UK’s leading housebuilders, registered social landlords and private clients.

From its origins in 1992, when the local housing association at that time allocated a tenement house to a group of residents who were keen to participate in the arts, Drumchapel Arts Workshop, (DRAW) has continued to hold a valued and valuable place in the local and wider community. Since those early days many developments and positive partnerships have evolved, and from our milestone achievement of obtaining charitable status in 2010, our recently established venue on the ground floor of a block of high rise flats offers an informal workplace in which those from the local community and beyond can express their creative potential. Originally DRAW was encouraged to seek funding through Urban Aid, and we are currently funded through GCC from an Integrated Grant Fund. Over the years a dedicated committee has worked to ensure a wide variety of interesting and successful programmes and projects are available to participants. The many statutory organisations and agencies with whom we have worked, including the NHS, occupational therapists, Momentum, Right Track and Careers Scotland continue to help us to open access to the arts and to widen the horizons of those who participate in the project. The sense of wellbeing, confidence and social integration which evolves from appreciating and sharing our cultural wealth is frequently acknowledged by our participants and we welcome and enjoy a diverse clientele.
