Paisley

Starting in 1959, Helen Young School of Dancing is a long established dance school in Paisley. Since 1987 principal Christine O’Donnell has continued to develop the dance school and maintain an exceptionally high standard of teaching to all pupils. Following Christine’s retirement in June 2015, Helen Young School of Dancing will continue in Paisley. This will continue with new principals Claire Irwin and Julie McFall, assisted by Jane McKenzie all of whom are fully qualified dance teachers and former pupils of Helen Young School of Dancing. Claire Irwin Julie McFall I started my journey at Helen Young School of Dancing in 1990, under former Principal Christine O'Donnell. Throuhgout my time at the dance school I have participated in various B.A.T.D. examinations and annual dance displays. I participated in B.A.T.D. amateur medal tests and gained my first professional teaching qualification in 2006. I began to assist at weekly dance classes and continue to increase my own teaching skills and qualifications. I have also participated in Latin American, Ballroom Dance, Line Dance and Rock 'N' Roll B.A.T.D. amateur medal tests and also in various dance competitions around the country in these branches of dance. Qualifications include: Associate B.A.T.D. Majorette Associate B.A.T.D. Modern Dance Associate B.A.T.D. Stage Associate B.A.T.D. Ballet Fellow B.A.T.D Freestyle Fellow B.A.T.D Traditional Step Dancing Dance continues to be a great passion of mine and I am delighted that I am now joint principal and able to pass this on to our very own Helen Young pupils. Claire x I began my time at Helen Young School of Dancing in 1991 and over the years have received training in a number of branches of dance. In 2006, my time at the dance school changed in that I began to gain professional teaching qualifications and help out with younger children's classes. After the years of teaching I received, to a very high standard at Helen Young, it has been very rewarding to pass on the knowledge and skills which I have learned to other pupils. Being able to see children and young people grow in confidence and ability is something which I particularly enjoy in teaching dancing. As well as pupils progressing and improving throughout their time at dancing, their enjoyment during time spent there is most important to me and I believe ensures that they reach their full potential. Following Miss O'Donnell's retirement in June 2015, both Claire and I are extremely grateful that we are able to continue with the Helen Young School of Dancing. The dance school has been a huge part of both our lives, both in the high standard of dance training we received and in the lifelong friends we have made there. I look forward to continuing this for all our pupils current and new.

Scotland Study Centre (SSC) is an Online Language school with a REAL difference. at SSC, you don't learn "textbook English." and you don't learn the traditional grammar that you can't use in real communication. You learn the REAL grammar you need to communicate in REAL English. Your teacher is a very highly qualified and experienced teacher, and the SSC courses can take you from Beginner level all the way up to REAL Proficiency in English. At the higher levels, SSC specialises in English for Specific Purposes, and you can choose to study English for Academic Purposes, Business Purposes, Employability, or for your own Academic of Business/Work specialisation, including for the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language. The more Advanced Level courses take you beyond the "Intermediate Plateau" and train you in the Language Techniques and Skills you need to reach the highest levels of Proficiency in English. The 'Teacher Training for English Teachers' course trains both experienced and novice teachers in the non-traditional approach to English teaching developed and used at SSC. This approach is based in Systemic -Functional Linguistics and teaches you how to teach REAL English as it used in Real-Life contexts. With SSC's non-traditional approach, you learn by INTERACTING with your teacher throughout the lesson, and there is an INTEGRATED SELF-STUDY program that allows you to continue learning between class sessions. SSC does not just teach the language; it teaches YOU and the specific English YOU need to succeed in your everyday lives and in your Academic and Business careers.

Hi I'm Katie, the face behind Sealy MacWheely. I am a passionate spinner, knitter and lover of all things bright and colourful! Sealy MacWheely began with very humble beginnings and came into being initially whilst I was a student to raise money for the brilliant charity, Childreach International, with whom I trekked through the Andes of Peru in the summer of 2013. Once the trek to the summit of Machu Picchu was complete I simply couldn't let go of my wee business and after graduating and moving down to the outskirts of the wonderful city of Glasgow I refreshed and rebranded and began the daunting task of vending at local craft markets. It didn't take long for my business to outgrow itself and soon I was driving across the country to larger yarn and fibre festivals and events and with a little hesitation and a lot of excitement I eventually quit my regular job and took up Sealy MacWheely full time. This of course led me to my wee Yarn & Fibre Shop which would never have existed had it not been for the incredible support of our amazing yarn community. With the help of a successful Kickstarter campaign in the autumn of 2018 I was able to move into my beautiful wee shop in Kirkintilloch where I could focus all my creative energy into sharing my love of fluff and colour! I am also passionate about ecology and the environmental impact of my business has been factored into every decision I make. Both the shop and my home where I do my dyeing are powered by 100% renewable energy and I use absolutely no single use plastics in my branded products. I am proud to announce that Sealy MacWheely has recently teamed up with Ecologi, meaning that for every purchase made both in the shop and online a tree will be planted in an effort to combat the climate emergency that our planet currently faces. Although the Covid 19 pandemic has been a bumpy ride the shop has recently moved to a new premises with an in-situ dye studio and I have absolutely no intention of giving up! In fact I have so many exciting adventures lined up for the next year that I can't wait to share with you so keep your eyes peeled!
