My name is Tamar and I have been teaching art and design for 15 years! I founded The City Workshop Edinburgh as I want to bring the joy of art and craft making to as many people as I can. I never tire of seeing the happiness that creating art brings and I believe that art is for everyone. So whether you think you're 'not any good at art' or you have always loved making, I hope you'll come and enjoy creating in my little workshop in Edinburgh. I believe that everyone can create art and my classes give you the confidence to make your own individual art and craft pieces. Established in 2010 by Goldsmith Ian Nicholson [http://www.thisisian.com/] and located in Edinburgh’s creative space Out of the Blue [http://www.outoftheblue.org.uk/], the Precious Metals Workshop (PMW) is Edinburgh’s leading independent workshop for goldsmiths, silversmiths, jewellers and hobbyists. We run courses [https://www.preciousmetalsworkshop.com/courses] for all levels of skills and provide access to a large range of tools and facilities necessary to create jewellery. We are a safe space for creative minds, home to a family of makers [https://www.preciousmetalsworkshop.com/jewellers] who share their knowledge and skills while inspiring each other and benefiting from an artisan vibe within the workshop. We operate several programs based on helping people start their own jewellery careers, providing a free bench and facilities access as well as weekly business mentoring. There is continued exploitation in the mining of metals and gems and we are proud to support two third-world women’s mining groups. The Precious Metals Workshop is a community of makers, where we share our knowledge, skills and inspire each other as creative individuals. We provide a range of specialised equipment including soldering stations suitable for casting, pickling tanks, wheel and barrel polishers, ultrasonic tank, bubble etching tanks for copper and silver, fly press, ring stretchers, stone setting tools, heavy duty vices, bench drills, hammering stumps, silversmithing hammers, draw bench and plates, metal guillotine, rolling mill, large and small kilns. We have an extensive collection of resource books on techniques and practices to support both our emerging and established makers.

Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop is a centre of spaces, facilities and opportunities for making, learning and research.We support artists in many different ways, providing subsidised studios, open access to affordable workspaces and specialist facilities as well as training and professional development. We commission new work, provide funding through a year-round programme of residencies and employ artists across all areas of activity. Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop is open to anyone interested in learning about or making sculpture. Our purpose-built spaces provide a unique environment and we regularly host organisations and community groups who want to make use of our facilities for their own programmes. For individuals or groups wanting to develop skills and knowledge our learning programme includes courses, tailored workshops and skills training. A free public programme of talks, exhibitions and tours provide other ways to get involved and meet artists.

Maria Falconer is a professional photographer and part time lecturer in Photography at De Montfort University.  She also runs online and live workshops with her partner Paul Hill in the UK and Europe. She holds an MA in Photography, is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and has exhibited in the UK, France, Belgium, Ireland, South East Asia and the US. Originally a photojournalist, Paul has had a rich career as a photographer and and a teacher. In 2008 he was awarded an MBE for services to photography and in 2014 the Royal Photographic Society award for Photographic Education. I am passionate about making the craft of bookbinding fun and accessible. I'm particularly inspired by nature and working with remnant materials, transforming what might otherwise end up in landfill, into unique and usable books. Online workshops and kits, in-person classes and commissions.

Kaisa is a self-taught mixed media artist based in Edinburgh. She will will be there to guide you on the evening and demonstrate how to use different tools and techniques. You can then use these skills and tools to create your own unique piece of artwork.  The tools include the usual brushes, as well as fun items such as pallette knives, monoprinting techniques, wax pastels… And other things you’ve probably never tried before in painting, such as wall paper scrapers, cooking spatulas and squeeges. A fun night in good company guaranteed.

The Arienas Collective is a creative workshop hub based in a beautiful, Georgian mews home in Edinburgh's historic New Town. The Collective was set up to help local artists and makers earn a living through sharing their creative skills and passions with others. Its name comes from Loch Arienas, a beautiful and remote spot in the Morvern area of the Scottish Highlands. We believe that engaging in creative activity is good for our health and wellbeing. Our workshops suit beginners, returners and those who want to challenge their own creative practice. Group sizes are kept small, so that our artists and makers can give you the help and support you need to get the most from your experience. Join us to release your inner creative and you will leave having learned new skills, made new friends, and with a finished piece we hope you will feel proud of.
