Ideal as an introduction to working creatively with clay. This two hour workshop is aimed at beginners who would like an introduction to making ceramics.

Ideal as an introduction to working with clay using a selection of approaches. About this Event Cyan Clayworks is an artist-run, non profit studio and teaching space. This three hour introductory class is suitable for adult beginners, and will focus on tile making, press moulded dishes and wheel throwing. Each student will be introduced to the basics of throwing; centering the clay, and forming a small vessel each. You will be able to create a small group of unique textured and coloured slip decorated tiles and a pressmoulded dish using one of our moulds. Limited class sizes with both Fiona and Chris teaching so lots of hands on support! You will be given one to one support while on the wheel. Your work will be trimmed (wheelthrown pots), fired and glazed ready to collect a few weeks later. You'll be notified by email and will then have a month to collect your pieces. £60 per person, inclusive of booking fee, materials, preparation, glazing and firings.

This five week course, run by Fiona, will run on Thursday mornings from 10.30 til 1. Suitable for beginner and intermediate levels.

This five week course is aimed at adults who would like to build on their prior knowledge of ceramics as well as explore new skills.

This workshop/seminar is designed for counsellors, psychotherapists, psychologist and art therapists working with, or planning to work with members of the LGBTQ+ community. Participants will be able to explore and augment their cultural awareness and competency for working with LGBTQ+ clients. This workshop will provide a a safe and supportive space to learn and will include experiential exercises as well as taught elements. The workshop will be delivered by Claire Black, Gestalt Therapist/Supervisor in private practice and Counselling Coordinator at LGBT Health and Wellbeing. 

PACE was developed by Dr Dan Hughes (a clinical psychologist specialising in childhood trauma) more than 20 years ago as a central part of attachment-focused family therapy. It was created with the aim of supporting adults to build safe, trusting and meaningful relationships with children and young people who have experienced trauma. The approach focuses on building trusting relationships, emotional connections, containment of emotions and a sense of security.  PACE is a way of thinking, feeling, communicating and behaving that aims to make the child feel safe. Its four principles of communication – Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy – facilitate the building of healthy, secure attachments between caregiver and child. PACE parenting is especially effective for supporting children that lack secure emotional bases. It is ideal for anyone working or living with children, especially those children in the care system Who is this course for? Anyone working with or living with children and young people. Like foster carers, adopting parents, residential carers, social workers but would also benefit parents experiencing difficulties. What will it cost? This seminar is aimed at counselling and psychotherapy practitioners working with members of the LGBTI+ community who are presenting material and/or concerns about the use of illicit drugs, such as Methamphetamine, Mephedrone and GHB/GBL in combination with sex (Chemsex).  The seminar will provide insights into the latest research by presenting case material from a PhD project and focuses on fostering a non-stigmatising/pathologising, shame-reducing approach to clinical practice with this client group. Participants will gain an understanding of the phenomenon by examining the practice from within different therapeutic approaches.   ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Peter Hellsten is a psychodynamic (eclectic) psychotherapist in private practice at A Quiet Room and has worked extensively with members of the LGBT+ community. He is a PhD candidate and qualitative researcher at The University of Edinburgh, where he is working on a project concerning gay men’s sexual behaviour and Chemsex.
