ECA has always been a place of experimentation and collaboration, celebrated for enabling students from different disciplines to work alongside and with each other, and for creating strong linkages with other institutions. We trace our history back to the Trustees’ Academy founded in the 1760s which, over the course of the next century, operated from some of the most iconic buildings in the city, including the University’s Old College and what is now the Royal Scottish Academy. The first Professorship in an ECA subject area was created for Music in 1839 in the name of John Reid, with the Watson Gordon Chair of Fine Art founded some forty years later, the first of its kind in the British Isles and a turning point in the teaching of the History of Art. Following the establishment of the Reid Concert series in 1841, which continues to this day, the Reid Concert Hall was built in 1859. We’ve been known as Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) since 1906, following a major reorganisation of higher art education in Scotland. At the time, we were governed by the city Council and divided into four Schools: Drawing and Painting, Design and Crafts, Architecture, and Sculpture. We moved into what is still our Main Building in 1909, when the first of our annual Revel parties took place and, by 1913, our Cast Collection had been installed in the Sculpture Court.

They are Scottish Police College Advanced Driving Certificates holders, members of the Institute of Advanced Motorists, fully qualified DSA Approved Driving Instructors and Pass Plus registered instructors. Dave is an examiners and fleet trainer with the IAM (Formally the Institute of Advanced Motorists, now IAM RoadSmart). He also holds the RoSPA Gold Diploma in Advanced Instruction and is an examiner for RoSPA. Dave also holds an IAM RoadSmart Masters Certificate in Advanced Driving with distinction and an Institute of the Motor Industry Examiners qualification. As the company has established an excellent reputation we are able to offer wide range of driver training courses at a variety of levels. Our goal at Edinburgh University Cricket Club is to promote a passion for the game within the university and the wider community. We are a large and inclusive club of seven teams (four men’s, two women’s and a social XI) and compete in both indoor and outdoor competitions. We offer a diverse winter and busy summer schedule to suit any level of ability or commitment. We train three times a week, with specialist coaching available from Joe Kinghorn-Gray, Craig Yelverton and Aashiq Rhode. Our elite indoor squads have extra sessions to maintain our prowess in National Finals. Our Semester One Varsity Day, with both men’s and women’s matches against St Andrews, is always a day to remember that everyone gets involved in. We have a vibrant social scene, with socials and events throughout the semester, giving squads the chance to mix and friendships to blossom. Our annual Casino Night and Ball are some of the biggest nights of the year, and are a chance to dress up in the name of charity. There is also the opportunity to participate in various intramural sports, such as football, netball and hockey, if one sport isn’t enough for you! Our men’s and women’s 1st XI squads play at the highest standard in the BUCS Northern Premier divisions, while the rest of our squads play throughout Scotland. 2022 saw the exciting addition of a women’s 2nd XI and a Social XI, making our club even bigger and better than ever!
