Mountains, nature and the outdoors are my absolute passion in life and I would love to share this with as many people as possible. For me, being in the mountains brings a sense of freedom; a calm and peacefulness which helps puts life’s problems into perspective, giving me the space and time to solve them. I am an experienced Mountaineer, fully qualified Mountain Leader and First Aider. I regularly lead groups of all ages and experiences in the hills, including scout groups, corporate organisations and novices on their first ever trips. Further afield, I have led expeditions in the Alps, Peru, Swaziland, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, India, to the Arctic Circle in Northern Finland, and to Everest Base Camp via the challenging 3 Peaks and 3 Passes route.

I am an abstract artist living in Edinburgh, UK, and I work in mixed media, including acrylics and collaging techniques. Creating exhilarating and compelling paintings is what I strive for, by manipulating different materials and media. I usually begin my process by adding loose layers, building up textures and color, while being directed by gestural marks that I react to. A new body of work often appears when a certain color, a piece of collage or something else such as a visual prompt, has stirred up inspiration. It is important to me to let the work develop organically and let it lead the way. I especially enjoy the beginning stages of playful movement, and activating the canvas with impulsive mark-making, often a graphite pen or big splashes of color. Sometimes I begin with collaging, creating textures and patterns before even a drop of paint has hit the surface. From there, the painting starts to take a direction of its own. Using stimulating tools, anything from brushes and pens to scrapers, scratching tools and even sandpaper on the surface, the piece starts to form..

The Scottish Music Therapy Trust is run by a team of volunteers students, music therapists, academics and other professionals dedicated to promoting music therapy. He is a keen amateur musician with a background in disability awareness. He has sat on a number of committees advising both the public and private sector on how best to support the needs of the disabled community, not only in Scotland but throughout Europe. The SMTT allows him to combine these interests in music and in disability. Trustee: Dr Philippa Derrington Philippa is a Music Therapist and Programme Leader of the MSc Music Therapy at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. Trustee: Duncan Campbell Duncan is an Edinburgh based Music Therapist, having graduated from the MSc Music Therapy course at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, in 2018. He has clinical experience of working with adults and children with learning disabilities, ASD, mental health and also working with Alzheimer’s/Dementia. Currently Duncan is working full time within NHS Lothian’s CAMHS. Trustee: Nadine Allan Nadine is a registered Music Therapist who graduated from the MSc Music Therapy course at Queen Margaret University in 2020. She is currently working with ELM Music Therapy in Aberdeen and the shire. Nadine has clinical experience of working with children, adolescents and adults with additional support needs and mental health difficulties. She is currently working mainly with children who have profound multiple learning disabilities in schools, as well as co-running a Sing and Sign group. Trustee: Hannah Quigley Hannah is a student on the MSc Music Therapy Course at Queen Margaret University. Before beginning the course in September 2021, she studied Music at the University of Edinburgh where she gained experience delivering community music workshops in schools, mainly for children with additional support needs. Trustee: Tilly Mütter Tilly is a student on the MSc Music Therapy Course at Queen Margaret University. After completing her undergrad in Canterbury she became the Music Lead at The Sunflower Federation Schools in Hertfordshire; for students with additional needs and profound multiple learning disabilities, where she used music to help improve the student’s individual targets.

The founder of Universal Truth, Nyla Khan, was forced to marry and subsequently desensitised from her own feelings for over 15 years. Her story is more than the typical narrative of being taken to Pakistan and forced into a marriage - she is a woman who cannot be put into a box no matter how hard family members and communities may try, about being disowned by her family and suffering abuse and community coercion from her own community. She has conquered every block that has been put in her way and now feels that her purpose in life is to demonstrate that all women can follow the same path. Nyla’s spiritual awakening has healed herself and presented her life’s purpose which is to gain the correct knowledge and experience to share her story and start Universal Truth so to be a role model that most ethnic minority women don’t have or can use more of – a successful and independent woman who surpassed tradition and limitations that were placed on her by archaic cultural conditions which resulted in community isolation tactics and silence in the name of honour. Nyla went from feeling like a failed unworthy daughter to the knowledge that she is just a soul who was made in the light of God. There is no box in which she belongs, she is a soul that was born to be free learning hard lessons. With so much fear instilled in victims, Nyla and Universal Truth bring a unique spiritual approach to these women. Through Universal Truth, Nyla seeks to break a cycle, to lead, to teach and heal others through her wisdom - as through her journey, she now lives a life of self-expression and truth - a birth right which belongs to all of us. Bringing Universal Truth to life is a path to support and inspire not only all the women of colour who are wanting to defy all odds but need strength and inspiration to do so, but also to inspire women from any background who have suffered similar trauma to give them hope and the courage to be loud and speak their truths. We understand that society’s structures and systems must embrace change in order for change to be effective and sustainable. That is why Universal Truth's focus is strongly dedicated to leading policy changes so that ethnic minorities are systemically supported and protected.

Hi, I’m Kathryn and I run antenatal courses and workshops along with baby and postnatal classes in Edinburgh. I teach weekly pregnancy classes and birth and baby workshops, which focus on combining antenatal education with birth hypnosis and breathing techniques, movement for pregnancy wellbeing and active birth and are a great time of the week to focus on you, your pregnancy and your baby. Weekly classes are a great way to help you enjoy a positive pregnancy and meet up with others local to you and at a similar stage in pregnancy as you prepare for your confident birth. I also teach Tinies and Wrigglers daisy baby classes which as well as offering baby massage, yoga and sensory play are all about coming together with other new parents to meet, chat and learn – navigating the journey into parenthood together. What I particularly love is seeing expectant parents meet at antenatal classes and continue with daisy baby classes until 10 to 12 months postpartum offering a real connection and community and seeing friendships grow. My classes are with you every step of the way, as are the community of daisy parents around you connected in class and online to always be there to support you. For everyone that is looking for evidence based information, delivered live and interactive (both online and in person) in a non judgemental space with other like minded new and expectant parents you are in the right place!
