In this 3-hour private class, Lou Davis will take you through how to make a gelatin (vege-gel) printing plate which can be used to print beautiful and colourful works of art.&nbsp;We&rsquo;ll cover a number of techniques including using stencils and masks, adding texture with botanicals and found objects and using household items for mark making and using home-made foam stamps. Textures could be chosen to match the reason for the celebration.

Our Art &amp; Wine Evenings offer&nbsp;a fun,&nbsp;relaxed and creative night out in Edinburgh&#39;s fabulous&nbsp;city centre, and are perfect for those who want to reengage with their creative side, or just enjoy a bit of escapism.
With hands-on help from local painter <a href="https://www.thearienascollective.com/artists" rel="noopener" target="_blank" fr-original-style="" style="user-select: auto; font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box; cursor: pointer; text-decoration: inherit;">Suzanne Kemplay</a>, you will learn how to create your very own still life, portrait or landscape painting using acrylic paints, while enjoying a glass of wine served with cheese and crackers plus our usual selection of locally-blended Shibui teas, and coffee options.
You don&#39;t have to be able to draw, so it&#39;s perfect for beginners&nbsp;as well as those who are new to using acrylic paints. And we&nbsp;think you&#39;ll be amazed at what you can achieve in one evening!
Suzanne offers a range of themes throughout the year, and you will be given a choice of 2 options to paint on the night. She&#39;ll also provide a brief background to the artist&#39;s work, and support throughout the evening to help you make the most of your time.

In this one-day, beginners&#39; workshop with artist Panna Chauhan, you will study both the italic and foundational scripts, and learn how to use these in unique and abstract ways to create a framed calligraphy artwork ready to hang at home.The foundational and italic scripts are different in the way they are written, and because of the way the pen is held, and each has a unique look and style.Under Panna&#39;s watchful eye, you will spend the morning learning and practicing letter forms in the basic foundational hand (or script): learning about the different types of nibs; correct sizing of letters; and how to hold the pen with the right tension to achieve a fluid letter.After a break for lunch, you will study the italic hand in brief before moving on to combining both these scripts to create an abstract calligraphy artwork. &nbsp;Panna will provide you with a calligraphy pack, including practice sheets, to use on the day which you can take home with you. Get a taste of sketching in the unique style of Mark Kirkham, the Edinburgh Sketcher. Join Jenny from The Scottish Soapworks to learn how to make your own shampoo and soap bars using methods you can use at home.
You will learn about the benefits of the essential oils Jenny uses in her tried and tested recipes, and take home all the soap and shampoo bars you make on the day. 
After your workshop, you will be sent a set of notes including details of the ingredients, equipment and recipes used, plus a list of suppliers so you can continue making your own shampoo and soap bars at home.
This is a great workshop for those who want to cut back on packaging; know more about the ingredients they use on their skin and hair - and which ultimately end up in our rivers and oceans; and for saving money by making your own. It's also a fun creative activity to do at home with other family members.

In this intermediate level screen printing workshop with artist and printmaker Lou Davis, you will learn to coat, expose, print and clean silk screens using the photo emulsion method.You&rsquo;ll create a design for screen printing,&nbsp;transfer your design to a screen and print it onto printmaking paper. We&rsquo;ll cover&nbsp;how to register your prints so they print in the same place every time. For this full day workshop, we&rsquo;ll create multi-coloured prints with two or more layers. You&rsquo;ll make an edition of up to ten prints and choose your favourite to frame, ready for your wall or to give as a gift.It&rsquo;s a good idea to think about what you&rsquo;d like to print before the workshop. Please bring some ideas for artwork with you, which we&rsquo;ll draw by hand onto tracing paper during the first part of the workshop. Learn how to make multi-coloured screen prints with artist and printmaker Lou Davis at The Arienas Collective in central Edinburgh

On this, 3 hour or 5 hour introduction to macram&eacute; workshop with Edinburgh artist Lucy Wayman, you get the opportunity to work on longer projects.&nbsp;You can choose to create a plant or pot hanger, or stay on to work on a more larger macram&eacute; project, such as a double plant hanger, wall hanging or bag.&nbsp;
The workshop will start with the basic principles and techniques of macram&eacute;, allowing you to build your confidence by creating small projects such as a key ring, before moving on to designing and creating your plant hanger, bespoke wall hanging, or bag.
Once you feel more confident, you will learn how to calculate rope lengths and plan designs to create your chosen hand-crafted macram&eacute; project&nbsp;using 100% cotton rope and a selection of coloured twines. A helpful instruction manual will be provided to guide you through your project.If you opt for the plant hanger project your workshop will finish after 3 hours.
