About this Training Course This is a 2 full-day course that is aimed at providing professionals in the Oil & Gas business with a comprehensive set of core negotiating skills. Negotiations take place in many situations e.g. between peers, manager and subordinate, company and trade unions, company and government. The skills learnt on this course will be useful in all of these situations. However, this course puts a focus on the skills needed in commercial negotiations. A particular emphasis is placed on the relationship and negotiations typically carried out between client and contractor, vendor or the provider of services. A mixture of theory, examples and practical exercises are used so that the participants understand the principles and get an opportunity to try them out. The case studies used are real cases encountered in the Oil & Gas industry. Training Objectives Many technical experts find it difficult to move out of their expertise areas and deal with commercial matters. Negotiating to optimise business value is a step further from their comfort zones. All too often negotiations are then left to finance personnel. They bring many strengths to the table but an understanding of engineering trade-offs is not one of them. By the end of this course, the participants will add to their technical know-how a core competence in negotiation skills. They will thus become formidable negotiating opponents. Target Audience The course is intended for middle-managers and technical and other staff who are responsible for contracts, but with limited previous exposure to negotiations, and who will need these skills in the near future. Course Level Intermediate Trainer Your expert course leader is a consultant, manager and engineer with more than 30 years' experience in a broad range of positions. He spent 15 years with the Shell group and during this time, gained extensive negotiating experience with contractors, vendors, service agents, trade unions and purchasers of equipment and products. Over the last 15 years, he has worked with a broad range of multinational businesses across the globe in a wide range of negotiation related roles including: Developing negotiating capability and skillsets Advising on negotiation strategies Establishing Alliances, Joint Ventures and Partnerships, & Remediating Alliances, Joint Ventures and Partnerships He has many years of teaching experience to technical staff - both in a corporate setting, and in an academic setting - for Melbourne University in Melbourne, Australia. Several thousand people from around the world have benefited from his courses. He brings an engineer's practical perspective, and can readily empathize with technical staff making forays into the commercial world of negotiations. He is joint author (with Professor Danny Samson) of Patterns of Excellence ISBN 0273638769, published by Financial Times Management. This has been adopted by a number of blue chip companies as the core text for management development. Corporate Experience: 15 years with Shell in a broad range of international & domestic technical and managerial and change management roles. Consulting Experience: 5 Years with McKinsey Consulting Group 4 Years with Melbourne Business Schoo POST TRAINING COACHING SUPPORT (OPTIONAL) To further optimise your learning experience from our courses, we also offer individualized 'One to One' coaching support for 2 hours post training. About this Course Batteries are going to play an increasingly important role in the energy grid. An increasing number of developers are looking to add battery storage systems (BESS) into their existing projects. However future cash flows are highly uncertain and they are often unsure exactly how battery technology can be monetised. A strong revenue model requires stacking of different revenue sources. As the share of variable renewable sources in electricity systems further increase, battery systems are expected to play a growing role by providing frequency control and operational reserves as well as for wholesale arbitrage, while helping reduce grid integration costs. The more volatile electricity prices are, the greater the earning potential of batteries trading electricity on various electricity markets. BESS can generate revenue streams in several different ways; through a frequency response contract with the TSO, by providing grid services in other ways or by arbitrage through buying cheap power and selling power for a higher price in a liquid wholesale market. Because batteries are efficient, the round trip efficiency is also high. They can spread arbitrage trading much better than other storage types and in many cases, other asset classes. For companies that combine a battery with other tasks, for example to store power from their own panels, or to avoid a costly heavy power connection, the investment is less risky than for those that purely focus on arbitrage trading. It is uncertain whether electricity prices will fluctuate more violently in the coming years, or whether the peaks will actually level off. During this highly interactive training, the trainer will provide you with the latest insights and best practices on how to obtain the maximum economic beneï¬ts when participating with BESS in the electricity market. Training Objectives By the end of this course, the participants will be able to: Discover the different BESS battery technologies and their impact on the grid Understand the role of storage in providing flexibility to the power system Examine the potential revenue streams from BESS models Learn how profit can generated with BESS trading strategies Determine how to optimize the value from BESS projects Find out how to combine BESS with renewable PPAs Target Audience Professionals and executives from Power Utilities, Energy Companies, Financial & Investment Banks, Renewable Power Project Developers, Transmission System Operators and Energy Industry Regulators will find this training course useful. Electricity Marketing and Traders New Venture or Business Development Executives Corporate Finance and Treasury Executives Audit and Risk Management Executives Power or Utility Market Research Analysts Investment Managers for Renewable Power Projects Origination Professionals Regulation, Compliance and Documentation Officers Lawyers and Accountants Power Transmission and Distributions Engineers Trainer Our key expert is a skilled and accomplished professional with over 25 years' of extensive senior management / board level experience in the energy markets worldwide. About this training Decarbonization of the Upstream Oil & Gas sector has previously been based on inter-fuel competition. Market actions were seen as the most effective method for reducing the level of emissions. However, the pace of decarbonization is now being led by government policy acting in concert with a coalition of stakeholders such as investors and consumers. The primary focus of this pathway is on the management of carbon emissions to both mitigate and adapt to climate change. Some energy analysts have forecast that global production of oil and natural gas will have to decline annually by 4 to 6 percent in order to meet the global target of Net Zero Emissions by 2050. Oil and gas producers face a difficult challenge in deciding upon the strategy and measures that will best achieve targets set for them while maintaining supply, attracting investments and accessing markets. This 2-day training course will provide participants with an understanding of the strategies and measures for decarbonizing the Upstream Oil and Gas sector within the framework of measures implemented by individual governments through their respective commitments to reduce emissions to achieve their National Determined Contribution under the Paris Agreement. This course offers a unique opportunity to understand the rapidly increasing issues confronting the industry as well as the options for the management of carbon emissions to comply with corporate as well as national policies and the implementation of measures for controlling, reporting and verification. Training Objectives Upon completion of this course, participants will be better equipped to participate in the implementation of measures for the management of carbon emissions in the following areas: Implementation of measures for reducing carbon emissions Establishing systems for monitoring and reporting carbon emissions Evaluating the commerciality of discoveries Reviewing and strategizing future field development plans Meeting Environmental Obligations Target Audience This course has been specifically designed for professionals involved in the international oil and gas industry, whether employed a field operator, national oil company, or government. It offers a unique opportunity to rapidly increase your understanding of the issues confronting the industry as well as the options for the management of carbon emissions to comply with corporate as well as national policies and the implementation of measures for controlling, reporting and verification. Staff with the following roles will find this course particularly useful: Corporate Planners Project Engineers Financial Analysts Environmental Specialists Legal Advisors Regulatory & Compliance Officers Course Level Basic or Foundation Trainer Your expert course leader is an international legal expert in petroleum law who has been listed in the Guide to the World's Leading Energy and Natural Resources Lawyers. In his thirty years of practice, he has been the lead negotiator and acquisitions advisor for oil and gas companies in the US and the Asia-Pacific. These transactions have included both upstream (licences and leases) and downstream (refineries and pipelines) assets. He has been appointed as Distinguished Visiting Professor in Oil and Gas at the University of Wyoming and Honorary Professor at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum & Mineral Law & Policy (CEPMLP) at Dundee University.
