Hereward College is a national college for people with disabilities and additional needs based in Coventry. It offers learners a varied curriculum that focuses on skills for independent living and employment. The college has both day and residential provision, which caters for a whole range of needs ranging from students with autism, physical difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties and complex disabilities. With a person centred approach, which is destination-led, learners follow a study programme designed to meet their needs and support progression. There is a real focus on employability, and every learner has access to work experience opportunities linked to their learning. Learners also have the opportunity to take part in Hereward’s supported internship study programme with one of the college’s partner employers that enables them to gain valuable experience within a supported environment. A range of additional support is available to students to ensure their journey through college runs as smoothly as possible. Learners can access speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social and emotional support, nursing support, and independent learning support. The college also offers respite care breaks for 16 to 25 year olds which provide young people with a taste of residential life, a chance to socialise with peers and take part in group and college activities.

AEPL’s educational philosophy fosters the development of one’s character as a foundation for the acquisition of other virtues and skills. Today there are activities sponsored by AEPL in Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth and Hobart. Projects of AEPL are open to all people, regardless of their background. AEPL was founded in 1976 by a group of Sydney residents from a wide variety of backgrounds. Their aim was to establish an association that would sponsor and promote educational projects to meet the needs of Australian society. AEPL is not-for- profit company and a registered charity. We have been working with families since 2020 and have built good relationships reflected in our engagement figures. We are a part of Birmingham City Council’s VPRS Partnership Board and are also currently working with other partner organisations on a number of projects – BSMHT, NHS, UOB, Spring Housing and Community Connexions. RAI were contracted to set up focus/listening groups so these organisations could use information gathered to inform their own services. We have also been commissioned to deliver our driving theory course to groups in neighbouring authorities – Solihull Council, Staffordshire Council. We have predominantly worked with the Syrian refugees but are now beginning to reach out and offer our services to the Ukrainian and Afghan families. We have been also working and networking with other grass root voluntary organisations like Saathi House, Nishkam Trust, Age Concern and Blesst Centre who work with elderly/vulnerable population including South Asians, Indians and Black/Caribbean Africans.
