I am a surface designer and have been designing and cutting stencils for almost 30 years - first for printed textiles, then for architectural sandblasted glass and currently for papercuts. I love simple, bold and graphic imagery and am inspired by primitive art, Scandinavian textiles, my Welsh heritage and the beautiful Gower landscape where I live, all mixed up with a love of illustration and design. Although I gained recognition for my distinctive architectural glass, undertaking large scale commissions for public and private spaces and meeting the Queen with my work, it is the hands on, simple and traditional technique of paper cutting which I currently find most gratifying. With just a scalpel, paper and cutting mat I create contemporary and humorous images which are designed to make you smile. My products sell across the world and in addition to winning an award at the prestigious Made by Hand exhibition I have been featured in the press. Everything on this site is designed or made by me and I source my products as locally as I possibly can, and always within the UK. I exhibit widely in galleries in the UK and attend many artist events in person as well as running paper cutting workshops from my studio. The Romani Cultural Arts Company. is the leading Romani and Traveller community-based organisation in Wales, traditionally using the arts and culture as a vehicle for advocacy and empowerment, amongst the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities. RCAC is also supporting individuals to become “Community Champions”, as actors and agents of change in their own communities, making a difference for themselves and the wider society. RCAC is managed by a Board (voluntary management committee) made up of representatives from the GRT communities, meaning that community members have a role as decision-makers and are part of the process of shaping the advocacy and rights agenda that RCAC promotes. The Company believes it is essential that the GRT communities be at the forefront of social progress and positive developments in social inclusion, in the struggle or the recognition of GRT rights and promoting inter-cultural understanding. Within Wales and increasingly across the UK, our advice and expertise is sought by local governments, policy-makers, decision-takers and local or national institutions. We are asked to evaluate the effectiveness of their policies and strategies or to support them in consultation to ensure the voice of the GRT communities they serve, is heard. We lead on advocacy for these vulnerable communities, influencing the policy and strategy agendas in the context of a devolved Welsh Government and increasingly internationally across the UK. BEMIS is the national umbrella body supporting the development of the Ethnic Minorities Voluntary Sector in Scotland. BEMIS was established in 2001 to promote the interest of minority ethnic voluntary organisations, develop capacity and support inclusion and integration of ethnic minorities communities. It is a member-led and managed organisation with an elected board of directors. The major aims and objectives of BEMIS are to represent and support the development of the ethnic minority voluntary sector across Scotland, and to support the diverse communities and individuals that this sector represents, especially those who are under- represented and disadvantaged. BEMIS aims to address inequalities by empowering communities, working towards an inclusive society by establishing structures, which recognise diversity and empowers ethnic minorities, and ensuring that they are fully recognised and supported as a valued part of the Scottish multicultural civic society. Initial Key aims and objectives: To strengthen the capacity of the ethnic minorities voluntary sector. Raise the profile of the ethnic minorities’ voluntary sector and its needs at strategic, local and national levels. Have a coordinating role for the voice of the ethnic minorities’ voluntary sector, ensuring pertinent issues are raised with the relevant bodies. To take a lead on policy issues and debate which are of concern to minority ethnic communities at both local and national levels. Work in partnership with all stakeholders and the diverse Ethnic Minorities communities in support of equality and a multicultural Scotland. Key Strengths Of BEMIS as identified in the HMIE review: a highly committed board of directors and staff who brought with them a good range of professional skills and a clear understanding of their responsibilities; the organisation had been successful in uniting a diverse range of stakeholders; BEMIS was highly valued by stakeholders and was making a positive impact on individuals, organisations and communities; strong commitment to inclusion and diversity; and strong commitment to ensuring grass roots organisations have a voice rather than acting as a spokesperson for EM communities. The above is complemented by the following notions stated by HMIE: A sector leading organisation/ excellent rating. Their commitment to capacity building ensured that local projects were self sustaining and no longer required significant support from BEMIS staff The comprehensive range of accredited training opportunities offered including a BA in community regeneration and HNC working in communities ensured EM people in local communities had the skills to better engage with local structures and partnerships Managers and staff at BEMIS were highly motivated, energetic and committed to the purpose of their work. They worked very effectively as a team, providing high levels of mutual support. The very strong commitment of BEMIS to diversity and inclusion was reflected in its diverse membership. Participants in the professional development courses came from a range of ethnic backgrounds The organisation had made very good efforts to target specific communities with its work, and to involve them in its management the organisation was not fully capitalising on its excellent work. It should develop better means to communicate and celebrate its successes so as to raise its profile. There is a strong commitment at both board and staff level to ensure that the diverse voluntary sector and communities this sector represents are fully recognised and supported as a valued part of civic society and a multicultural Scotland. BEMIS enjoys a high proportion of fundamental Strengths that are essential for the development and delivery of our role and remit. The opportunities for developing and delivering our strategies and objectives are ample and remain to be explored and exploited to the full in support of the diverse EMVS as well as government policies and initiatives around equality and social justice. Within the above context, BEMIS has and continue to be a major partner in supporting the equality agenda in Scotland and in supporting the diverse communities within the framework of equality, diversity and a cohesive multicultural Scotland. We envisage this role to be enhanced and promoted enabling us to function and deliver at several levels in empowering the diverse EM voluntary sector and the communities this sector represents as well as assisting national policies and objectives of the government in their endeavour to promote an equal multicultural Scotland.

Welcome to Lifelong Learning at the University of Southampton. We deliver the University's community learning programme, which offers a range of opportunities for adult learners to enhance their skills and broaden their knowledge in a range of subject areas. From languages to creative writing and from archaeology to quantum computing you can choose from a diverse range of courses which run throughout our academic year (October to July). Our courses normally run on a weekly basis during the evenings and can be from 6 to 30 weeks in length. In addition to our evening courses we also run a series of themed Study Days. These events generally take place on Saturdays or Sundays and consist of a half or full day of academic lectures delivered by staff or postgraduate students. Examples of past topics are: Jane Austen, 1066, Lawrence of Arabia, the Archaeology of Southampton, Castles, Women and British Film, Stonehenge and Old Sarum. Lifelong Learning is based at our Avenue Campus and most of our courses and events take place at this campus where there is plenty of parking and it is on the U2 bus route and Avenue cycle route. Cardiff Storyteller and Singer Cath Little has “rough magic” in her voice, and in her words “the gift of the story comes through.” She has a strong belief in the power of stories to connect us to one another, to the land, and to the people who once lived here. She tells traditional stories from her Irish English heritage and her Welsh homeland. Cath enjoys re-imagining and retelling stories from The Mabinogion. Cath helps run the Cardiff Storytelling Circle and curates their seasonal concerts, Tales for the Turning Year. She tells and listens to stories at Oasis, a Cardiff Charity which offers a warm Welsh welcome to refugees and asylum seekers. Cath keeps busy sharing stories in schools, libraries, museums, castles, cafes and fields. She has performed at festivals across Britain and Ireland and is the author of Glamorgan Folk Tales for Children. My father told me stories and my mother read me them. The family was, and is, full of wonderful storytellers. When I started teaching English in London Secondary Schools it came naturally to me to tell stories: I told stories to help the children into poetry, into Shakespeare, into their own creative imaginations. When I taught English in Italy and in Egypt I found that stories take away the stress of learning another language and give a real reason for listening. When I became a Steiner Waldorf Early Years Teacher I learnt more about the power of stories to nurture and to heal. And then one day I met a professional storyteller! Then I knew that’s what I had to be. Since then I’ve been on the path, following my bliss, and have worked as a professional storyteller since 2006.

Hi, I’m Angharad and I live in Hull with my husband Paul, our two boys Caden and Colby and dog Phoebe. Since having my sons, I longed for a career change that gave me more time with my family. With being in the hairdressing industry for 19 years I knew what I enjoyed most was working with people. After much research I found Tots Play. Not only had I found a class that appealed to me as a mother with all the variety it offered, but also made me excited at the thought of being able to help parents or carers develop their connection to their child with all the benefits baby massage, yoga, signing, music, movement and sensory play provides. I will also make sure you take away lots of fantastic ideas to carry on the fun times at home. Having my youngest in the first lockdown has shown me how important baby and toddler classes are, not just for little ones but for helping parents bond with their child, as well as building invaluable supportive relationships with others in the same situation. Being a parent can be incredibly challenging and lonely sometimes so finding a class where you can share stories, laugh about the adorable or cringy moments and feel part of a community is irreplaceable.
