This year at Drive Learn Achieve we celebrate our fourteenth birthday. Fourteen years of teaching Cardiff’s learner drivers, fourteen years of test passes, fourteen years of reviews and recommendations, and fourteen years of close shaves! In July 2007 DLA launched with the ambition of getting to July 2008. We had a huge driving school fleet that comprised of one well worn, cheap Toyota Yaris, 100 freshly printed business cards and a young driving instructor that was still learning the trade but keen as mustard (still don’t know what that means). We’ve had our learners drive us up one-way streets (the wrong way), around roundabouts (the wrong way) and have taught thousands how to negotiate Cardiff’s most notorious junctions the right way (Gabalfa interchange and Culverhouse Cross included). We quickly realised that we were going to be popular due to being recommended and our online reviews. We started the process of interviewing driving instructors that were interested in joining our team. Most didn’t make it. We demand the highest standards of professionalism in the industry and this meant that sometimes the ‘fit’ wasn’t right. We’ve now assembled a group of Cardiff driving instructors that understand our approach and deliver excellent customer service. In 2010 we opened our Facebook and Twitter accounts and we continue to use these platforms to interact with the public and shamelessly plug our driving lessons in Cardiff and driving test passes. It took a while but in 2018 we finally got on Instagram too. In March 2011 Apple released the iPad2 and the geeky version of us was in the queue to pick ours up on its UK release date. We knew it would be a game changer for driving instructors and it was. The interaction and understanding between pupil and driving instructor increased exponentially and we now couldn’t live without them – both our pupils and iPads of course! Cardiff’s practical driving test centre moved from Fairwater to Llanishen in 2013 and with it came the introduction of the bay park manoeuvre. The test has also seen the introduction of the Hazard perception part of the theory test, basic car maintenance questions, independent driving and last year saw the Sat Nav test introduced. Keeping up with these changes is intensive but we’re of the opinion that if it makes the roads safer, review and embrace it. In 2016 we started to offer driving instructor/ADI training to people who feel that they can contribute to society and its roads by not freaking out when headed towards a lamppost. This is an acquired skill and takes nerves of steel – bizarrely we really enjoy it and we’re aiming to become the best at it! In 2019 we began helping disabled drivers to fulfil their dreams of being on the road. Sometimes the driver already has a licence but following a recent diagnosis/illness, they need to learn a new method of controlling a vehicle. This is a part of the business that is developing as fast as driver innovation is, and it’s equally rewarding and exciting for us to be a part of.

The London Suzuki Group ( LSG ) was founded in 1972 and was the first group in the United Kingdom to teach music by the Suzuki Method. With 60 qualified teachers and over 600 children currently receiving tuition, the LSG runs individual and group classes, orchestral and chamber music courses, workshops and an annual residential summer course at Bryanston School in Dorset. The group offers instruction in violin, viola, cello, piano, flute, recorder and voice. Public and private concerts are regularly organised at venues throughout London and elsewhere, providing much more than the opportunity to learn an instrument. Children and parents form lasting friendships. Parents and teachers are able to share experience and ideas. Music, and the love of music, becomes a natural part of the life of the whole family. Talent is not a prerequisite The Suzuki approach stimulates and develops musical abilities inherent in all children. Despite its sustained record of success exemplified in the many distinctions won by LSG students in music examinations, competitions and scholarships to major schools and conservatoires, the LSG’s overriding achievement is the provision of joy through music making, and the enrichment of the lives of the families involved in the learning process. Hi, I’m Angharad and I live in Hull with my husband Paul, our two boys Caden and Colby and dog Phoebe. Since having my sons, I longed for a career change that gave me more time with my family. With being in the hairdressing industry for 19 years I knew what I enjoyed most was working with people. After much research I found Tots Play. Not only had I found a class that appealed to me as a mother with all the variety it offered, but also made me excited at the thought of being able to help parents or carers develop their connection to their child with all the benefits baby massage, yoga, signing, music, movement and sensory play provides. I will also make sure you take away lots of fantastic ideas to carry on the fun times at home. Having my youngest in the first lockdown has shown me how important baby and toddler classes are, not just for little ones but for helping parents bond with their child, as well as building invaluable supportive relationships with others in the same situation. Being a parent can be incredibly challenging and lonely sometimes so finding a class where you can share stories, laugh about the adorable or cringy moments and feel part of a community is irreplaceable. Hi, my name is Lian. I live in Winchburgh with my fiancé, Stuart, and my two little girls, Maddie and Connie, and I run classes in the Edinburgh North West areas. I am originally from Manchester and before moving to Edinburgh travelled the world working on a cruise ship. After meeting Stuart, we decided to put down some roots in Scotland and start a family. I attended lots of baby classes with Maddie, she spent most of the time sleeping but for me it was invaluable - being able to chat to other mums going through the same things at the same time. Also, being new to area meant I was able to meet, what have become, lifelong friends. In June 2020 I had my second daughter, Connie, in the middle of a global pandemic. My maternity experience was very different. Not having the opportunity to go to classes and share experiences with other Mums made me realise even more how important these baby groups are, not just for my baby but also for me. So this got me thinking about my future and where my passion was, then I discovered Tots Play and knew I had found exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted to offer the same opportunity for new mums and the experiences I had to Edinburgh North West. I immediately jumped at the chance to bring this fantastic programme to families in the area. My aim is to offer you and your baby a relaxed and friendly environment, where you can spend special time with your little one playing, laughing, learning and bonding together. KIRKINTILLOCH TO FALKIRK Hi everyone, my name is Nicole and I live in Scotland with my Husband, Martiens and my daughter Hailey. We are Namibians who have made Scotland our home. I have previously worked as a horse-riding instructor as well as a travel agent, and before going on maternity leave, was working in customer service. After having Hailey I couldn’t bare the thought of sitting behind a desk all day while she went to nursery. I like to be active and love meeting new people. I took Hailey to Tots Play from the time she was just a few weeks old and we loved it. The benefits and results were amazing. From getting her to sleep better and helping her get over colic, to chats and advice from the parents and it was lovely seeing how much Hailey loved the interaction too. When the opportunity came to take over Tots Play in the area, I was so excited and was determined to make it happen. The support I received in the classes really helped me as a first-time mum, and I am passionate about providing this for others parents. Running the business also allowed me to escape the office environment, meet new people and be there to see my daughter grow up - a perfect fit for me! The Tots play program offers a unique experience using massage, yoga, music, sign language and sensory play all in one class. The program is designed to aid your little one’s development using easy, inexpensive and fun ways to play together, both at class and that you can continue at home too. This is a special time to bond with your child and encourage them to explore their new world with confidence. THE NVQ HAS NO SET DATES. ONCE REGISTERED YOU WILL BE ENROLLED ON THE SYSTEM WITH COMPLETION TIMES BELOW What is an NVQ? An NVQ is a competence-based qualification. The qualification is an International recognised work-based qualification. Once qualified, it will demonstrate to employers that you are skilled and able to perform well in your role at work. This is where you will be able to demonstrate your ability at work and complete a list of job knowledge questions regarding the units in your qualification. It is the candidate’s responsibility to engage with the Assessor and gather the evidence that will match the assessment criteria in your NVQ.   How can the candidate gather the onsite/work evidence and job knowledge questions? Risk Assessment Method Statement Drawings Materials Measuring, Cutting, Positioning, and securing in place what you are installing.   Methods of ways of gathering evidence - Videos – this will be the candidate setting up their video and then demonstrating their skills and ability on site and then upload to the candidate’s portfolio. On site assessment - where your assessor will come out to you and observe you demonstrating your skills. This will depend on the site location and assessors’ location. If the site location is too far for the assessment to take place, it will be solely video evidence. Your Assessor will instruct you on how to complete your videos. Witness testimony - your Assessor will hold a recorded discussion with your manager/supervisor to confirm where, when and how you have completed the work to the specifications. Photos – They can be used as part of an assessment. They will not be accepted if the candidate isn’t in the photo. Photos cannot be used to build up a portfolio but can be used as part of the videos showing the full completed job and also in the Assessors on site assessment observation report.   Job Knowledge Questions account for 65% of the NVQ qualification. These can be saved to your computer and typed as this will be the quickest and easiest route or you can print them out and hand write them. They are very important, and they are written to see if you have the knowledge behind what you are doing on site or at work. The questions are all relevant to the work that you do.   What is the process? You will receive an email from the online platform with your username (your email address) and password. Arrange with your Assessor to complete your Induction. Complete your knowledge questions. Arrange with your Assessor your site assessment. Assessor will contact your Manager/Supervisor for a testimony. Recorded Professional Discussion with you to confirm your ability and authenticate your portfolio. Cost – Level 2 - £750 + Vat. If you would like to add an additional pathway, they would be £300 each added pathway. Level 3 - £950 + Vat. If you would like to add an additional pathway, they would be £300 each added pathway. Time Scale of the NVQ? The NVQ is candidate led. This will depend on how committed the candidate is and how much work the candidate has lined up. Your Assessor cannot complete you without the evidence. For a level 2, we aim to have the candidate completed in 4 – 8 weeks, Level 3 from 4 – 12/16 weeks
