The Yorkshire Dales Centre was established in October 1975 at the Yorkshire
Centres, West & North Groups AGM at the Winter Gardens Ilkley. The Yorkshire
Dales Centre was fully formed from 1st January 1976 with a chairman Mr Roy
Knowles. In January 1976 the first YDC brochure was produced in the style of a
“cheque book”. The first rally 13-15 February 1976 and had a valentines theme,
it was held at Old Bilton with a rally fee of £1.30p . On the 26-28th March 1976
the centre held its christening & dedication rally at Pool Bank (Chevin Park).
September 1978 the first YDC organised Three Peaks Walk took place that grew &
grew until some 120 walkers registered to take part, with a briefing Saturday
morning at 7.30am. In 1984 at the AGM there were 262 voting members present and
1985 272 which included 28 Teenagers. April 1982 the centre hosted its 500th
rally at Ripley Castle. April 1987 the centre hosted its 1000th rally at Bolton
Abbey (rather wet venue). July 1996 21st year Thorp Perrow. July 2000 silver
jubilee & millennium rally at Woodhouse Grove School Appley bridge. July 2005
30th year celebration rally Pateley Bridge. April 2009 2500th rally at Harewood
House. April 2015 40th year celebration at Harewood House. We are currently
starting to look for a venue so we can begin preparations for our 50th Birthday
in 2025.
