Budokai Karate

London

By Sensei Kevin Allmond 3rd Dan Hakuda Ryu Karate Senior Instructor & Technical Director - Budokai Karate Member of the BMABA (Pictured right) Every instructor at Budokai Karate realises that the martial arts is not simply about kicking and punching, but more about encouraging physical fitness, self confidence, self discipline and ultimately achieving a set of goals that we look to achieve together. We genuinley believe that in developing an individual both physically and mentally, they will reap the rewards in every aspect of their lives and it's because of this we are dedicated to not only producing excellent martial artists but outstanding members of the community. Budokai simply means "many styles" and as can be seen from the instructor profiles below, the main instructors all come from different backgrounds. Martial Arts are all essentially the same as there are only so many ways to perform a kick or a punch, however, there are subtle differences between styles which help people of varying abilities to perform each technique. With the wealth of experience that we are now gaining as an organisation there are very few techniques, if any, that can't be taught to people of any level. Whether they saw it on the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, on the Power Rangers, or on Yu Gi Oh, children today have been exposed to martial arts from an early age. From karate to kung fu, martial arts provide a powerful workout, but some parents worry that these sports are too violent for children. While it is true that martial arts originated as fighting systems in Asia, today's martial arts provide children with physical exercise, a chance to gain self confidence, an opportunity to interact with others, and worthwhile lessons in self defence. For children of all ages, martial arts are an exciting alternative to more traditional sports. We teach karate, or empty hand, which is perhaps the most well known martial art. Karate is a Japanese discipline used for self defence. In addition to throws and blocks, karate also incorporates punches and kicks as well as weapons. Karate competitions take place at all levels across the UK, and more information can be found from the British Karate Association. No matter in which martial arts your children become interested, all martial arts build confidence, encourage self control, motivate self esteem, and teach self defence. Martial arts are also incredibly safe when taught in an appropriate school, and all qualified instructors will be more than happy to share their qualifications and training philosophies. Finding the right school for your child could well be the first step to a long love affair with the martial arts.

Driver Hire Training

Bradford

All professional drivers of large goods vehicles must have a Driver Qualification Card, or DQC. There are a small number of exemptions, but essentially if you’re driving an HGV / LGV (licence categories C, C1, C1+E or C+E), then Driver CPC is a legal obligation. Professional PCV drivers with equivalent licences are also required to hold a DQC. Ongoing requirement Whether the initial DQC was gained as part of the drivers’ initial licence acquisition or by attending Driver CPC training courses, Driver CPC is an ongoing requirement. It is mandated by EU law (Directive 2003/59) and is designed to improve the knowledge and skills of drivers, as well as enhancing safety on our roads. The requirement for Driver CPC has not changed as a result of Brexit and there are no Government plans to do so – the relevant regulations pass into UK law. We believe that done well, Driver CPC training makes a positive contribution to the road transport industry, supporting the ongoing professional development of the drivers who make such a valuable contribution to our society. What must a driver do? Each DQC is valid for five years from the date of issue. This means that – unlike the 2014 deadline set when Driver CPC was introduced – each driver’s renewal date is unique to them. All drivers must undertake 35 hours’ periodic training before the end of the five years following the issue date on their DQC. If the training is not undertaken during that time, they will not be permitted to drive professionally until they have completed their 35 hours. The best way to ensure that a DQC doesn’t lapse is to carry out at least one day’s mandatory periodic training every year. To check your Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) training record, visit the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency website. The consequences If a driver is caught driving commercially without their Driver Qualification Card: Both driver and operator face fines of up to £1000 Driver suspended from driving commercially until training is completed Possible reduction in driving workforce, and operations adversely affected If operations are affected, your reputation with customers could be damaged If convicted, operator’s OCRS rating will drop to red Likely increase in insurance premiums What should I look for in Driver CPC training? When choosing your Driver CPC training provider, look for a wide range of relevant topics for drivers to choose from. This keeps the training useful, interesting and engaging. Look out for interactive elements, such as videos, quizzes and feedback sessions, which will benefit drivers, and add real value to the training.

We ensure that the pricing of our products is transparent, and realistic in relation to education organisations’ budgets. This helps business leaders to develop a real understanding of their organisation’s position and to see ‘the bigger picture’ and the potential in their market. Our business professionals are collaborative team-workers, but they also have the strength and experience to draw our clients’ attention to areas of weakness and aims that are unachievable. We know that facing up to realities makes for a healthier business in the long term and ensures that funds and resources are focused on attainable goals. Over the past three decades, MTM has worked with big and small names in independent and state education, early years providers, higher education providers and education suppliers and investors. Rather than engaging MTM as a supplier, we like to think we are part of the team, offering information, skills and experience to support education organisations to maximise their business potential and provide a secure learning experience for their students well into the future. Communication with our clients is on-going and we constantly ask which aspects of our service they have most appreciated, and which could be developed. We act on our clients’ feedback and hone our products and services to make sure that they offer our clients exactly what they need.

Sicklinghall

The approach I take within my work comes from my own life experiences, extensive training and research, my interest in fellow human beings and a deep longing to share with others my knowledge of self-development, spirituality and natural healing. I graduated in Biology at Durham University in the 1980s and I entered the workplace at the Science Museum in London. Science and particularly the Medical Sciences were my first loves, however a taste of the stress and pressure of city life, led me to take off on a travelling adventure and find out what it was I really wished for out of life. Whilst living and working in South East Asia I gravitated towards Buddhism and the Ayurvedic approach to wellness and health. I took a course in 'Chakra Consciousness' in India where I qualified as a teacher. This changed my whole outlook and meditation/natural healing became part of my life and it stuck. On returning to the UK, two children later, and having decided to completely switch career, I worked in a Natural Health business whilst further training in Stress Therapy, Holistic Massage, Acupressure and Reiki Healing. I opened my first 'Holistic Wellbeing' clinic in Wetherby in 2006 and then 'Qui Wellbeing' in Sicklinghall and I have now worked 1:1 with a wide range of clients. In 2017 I qualified as a Mindfulness Association teacher and UK registered with the British Association of Mindfulness Based Approaches following the UK good practice guidelines. In 2019 I qualified as a Compassion Based Living Teacher with the Mindfulness Association. In recent years I have delivered Mindfulness based interventions to recovering addicts (5-ways academy in Leeds), vulnerable adults (Harrogate Homeless Project), leaders working with vulnerable adults, stressed city workers (NHS digital Leeds), sixth formers (Harrogate Grammar school) and I am currently working with University of Leeds on research funded by the Medical Research Council into approaches to mental health in adolescents. Recently I recorded a professionally produced audio version of the MBLC course for the Mindfulness Association. I continue to deliver to private clients and groups at the Acorn Wellness Retreat and at Carlshead Business Centre. I am now very happily part of the Kagyu sangha of Tibetan Buddhism and practice at Samye Dzong, Samye Ling and with Mindsprings. I regularly attend immersive retreats. I combine my multi-disciplinary skills, my extensive client-based experience and my deep belief in the power of Mindfulness to create a unique and considered approach to personal wellness and natural health. Communicating through social media, magazine articles and blogs keeps me abreast of new developments and research into my diverse areas of interest. Other than that, I am committed to be happy and compassionate in my work, with my family, with the people I meet and the world around me. I am very grateful to my many guides and influences. Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Namaste
