Kings Heath Playcare Scheme is a registered charity run by parents for parents to provide high quality out of school care. Whilst enjoying excellent support from the school the Playcare Scheme operates independently from the school and is financed primarily by fees. The playscheme was first opened in 1995. We now offer care to 85 children a day and currently have over 170 children on our register. Children do not need to attend during term time in order to be offered a place during the holiday periods.

I live and work in Solihull and am married with two boys. I have an obsessive love of sewing, which has driven my career through a wide range of sewing related experiences. I came from a family of sewers and from a very early age was encouraged to be creative. My love of embroidery and needlework led me to pursue a career in teaching. I attended a specialist needlework and home economics teacher training College in Liverpool. I always enjoyed "hands on work" and gained experience working with an expert team of fitting and alteration seamstresses at an exclusive dress shop the summer I finished at Liverpool. I wanted a creative career, so I applied for the position of wardrobe assistant at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. This was a wonderful work experience, sewing fabulous fabrics and making a diverse range of costumes. The theatre wardrobe mistress encouraged me to continue studying and I enrolled for a City and Guilds course. Although theatre working hours were long, they were flexible and I could study and work full time. I achieved merit for City and Guilds Creative Studies; two years later I received a distinction in Fashion and Design and won the year prize. My qualifications and experience opened another career opportunity in the fashion industry. I wanted to work fewer hours and the job I was offered provided training in production planning and buying. Working regular hours I decided to think again about the teaching career I had abandoned. I was employed by Birmingham Adult Education Department to work in evenings teaching Embroidery and Needlework. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching, so when I married and the family arrived I gave up full time work in industry. I returned to college, updated my teaching qualifications and became a part time teacher In the early 90's I wrote the Tailoring Programme for the West Midlands Access Foundation, later used by Open College Network. By 1996 I was determined to offer my own courses, now known as Gill Arnold Dressmaking Training. In 1997 I became Sewing World magazine's pattern specialist. Over 20 years teaching has given me a wealth of experience and knowledge to produce articles on patterns and fitting. I have also written for Sew Today and American publications. With the support of the sewing industry I enjoy being a regular exhibitor at shows all over the country including the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham. My yearly programme provides a full range of sewing events, exhibitions, seminars, cloth sales, trips and courses.

The Buddy Bag Foundation was founded in 2015 to help make a difference to children entering emergency care; with over 48,000 children entering emergency care each year. The foundation is run by a team of volunteers who supply buddy bags containing essential items to restore a sense of comfort and love to these children. I’ve loved working with The Buddy Bag Foundation for the past 5 or so years. It’s great to give up time & really feel like you are making a difference. We’ve been able to pack bags, I’ve even taken my son along so he can appreciate just how lucky he is. We look forward to hosting more events in the future.

The Cookery Courses Courses are either half-day or full-day. On the full-day course, attendees will spend the morning or evening preparing the recipes and then enjoy what they have prepared at a sit down meal. The courses are taught in a small group setting, with a mixture of hands-on cooking and demonstration, in a fun and friendly setting within our home. You can book a course as individuals, where you will have a chance to make new friends or book as a group of friends, family or work colleagues, to have a fun day together! The cooking classes offer a great team building opportunity. As such, I also run Corporate and Team Building workshops. There are further courses specifically for children and young persons ( I am DBS registered) and those with particular dietary requirements. Please contact me for further information. Craig Robbins Founder Craig has a wife Vicky and four children. He served in the Royal Green Jackets and is now Rifleman Veteran. How Chosen VSG started After being diagnosed with PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) in 2015 and going the preferred pathways of medicine and Therapy, Craig found that a lot of the help and support that was available at that time was inefficient and could often have long waiting periods on an ever increasing waiting list. Craig decided to form a Motorcycle Club purely for Veterans which more often than not became ‘beer and banter’ nights. The seed was then sown for a support group that was proactive and would work with the veterans from point of contact through to completion. Sometimes there is no completion and individuals require lengthy aftercare provided by a Buddy Buddy system. Four years on Chosen Veteran Support Group now prides itself on being the most proactive Veteran Support group in Birmingham and has now achieved Home Office Approval.
