An integral part of the ACOP’s requirements for the control of legionella bacteria is the need to undertake regular monitoring and checks on the systems to ensure that they are operating within the guideline parameters. Regular and routine checks such weekly flushing of infrequently used outlets, sentinel temperature monitoring, shower head descale and disinfection, maintenance and serving of thermostatic mixing valves and system inspections are required to ensure compliance with current regulations and guidelines. By using the information gained during the legionella risk assessment process, Coral can design a bespoke monitoring and testing regime based upon the guideline parameters laid out in ACOP L8. The frequency of inspection and maintenance will depend on the system and the risks it presents. All the inspections and measurements should be recorded. A site-specific water hygiene log book can then be instigated which can be used to record and collate all of the information relating to water hygiene. The upkeep of this log book will ensure your total compliance with current legislation and guidance. We have a bespoke online job management system which allows our clients 24/7 real time access to their records for inspection, recording and auditing purposes.

Background to St. Joseph’s Centre for the Deaf St. Joseph’s Centre for the Deaf, prior to 1981 was known as St. Joseph’s Association and had been a part of Belfast’s deaf community for over 50 years. From 1950, Bread street was the permanent base for St. Joseph’s Social Club for a period of 22 years, in 1972, it was so badly damage, it could no longer be used. 1981-1983 a committee was set up to raise funds for a new centre, a site on the Grosvenor Rd was acquired and building started soon after. The new building was opened in 1983 and became the home for St. Joseph’s Centre for the Deaf, a hub continuing to provide support for deaf community with specific focus on their Spiritual, Pastoral, Educational and Social needs.

We are delighted to welcome our new Executive Director Paul Smyth, who comes to us with a wealth of experience and a strong reputation for ground breaking youth work. I am thrilled to have taken up the post of Executive Director with Politics in Action – and I want to start by congratulating my predecessor Patricia O’Lynn on her election to the Northern Ireland Assembly. We live in a turbulent time for politics around the world, nationally and locally – and this makes the work of supporting young people’s role as active citizens more challenging and even more important. We are emerging from a global pandemic which has put unprecedented restrictions on the lives and freedoms of young people, and which has impacted their learning, their social lives, their relationships and for some their mental health. Politics in Action responded proactively to these challenges by moving workshops online and ensuring continuity. I am optimisticwe can return to largely face-to-face delivery of our programmes with young people in schools and other settings, and can find new ways of engaging with more young people and in particular those who are not normally invited into conversations about politics and citizenship. Much of what we already do is in collaboration with schools and with other youth organisations. I see so much potential for additional collaborations that allow our little charity to punch above its weight. One of the many attractions of the role is the excellent Board of Trustees who provide strong governance, leadership and vision for Politics in Action. They bring significant social and political capital to the charity and use it in the interests of young people and our shared future. I would love to hear your ideas about how Politics in Action should direct our energies over the coming months and years. We supply Fire Marshal, Warden, Awareness training at your location and tailor it to your work sector, as such your staff will have no travelling or subsistence expenses minimising disruption for your organisation. Our trainer will bring all materials so you only need to provide a room with a plug socket. There is a practical element with extinguishers outside using our propane burners, which are fully insured and environmentally friendly. We require approximately 4 car parking spaces for this, if you do not have enough space we provide extinguisher discharge only.   The training is accredited by the Institute of Fire Safety Managers, all attendees will receive individual Electronic Certificates and our Fire Warden Quick Guide, in addition a Group Certificate will be sent with all names on for audit purposes and your central records.
