Kilcooley Women's Centre, is currently based in Balloo, Bangor and has provided services for women in North Down since 1995. KWC adopts the principles of COMMUNITY WEALTH BUILDING to improve the economic outcomes for the borough of Ards North Down through collaboration. The Women's Centre is a key player within the wider Kilcooley area and works collaboratively with other agencies towards improved outcomes for all residents of the estate, with a particular focus on early intervention programmes and projects to address educational underachievement and poor health and wellbeing outcomes. As the only women's centre serving Ards/North Down and unique in Co Down, where possible we offer outreach training to smaller towns and villages in the Borough. On 2nd June 2017, HM Queen Elizabeth announced in the London Gazette that she had awarded the centre the 'Queens Award for Voluntary Service' in recognition of the service to the community from 1995. The Centre has been acknowledged as a valuable asset within the community and has developed a diverse range of services to meet the identified needs of women, children and their families living within the Kilcooley and wider Ards & North Down area. Local women are involved in the staffing and management of the centre. Kilcooley Women's Centre is a key provider of training, health awareness, childcare and young women's activities and leads on community based education in the area. The Centre currently operates out of various sites, each one offering a welcoming environment, where local women can engage in a wide portfolio of activities, including training and education, programmes for young women aged 16-24, employability skills, health and wellbeing programs, peace and reconciliation activities, arts programs and personal development programs to build skills, confidence and self-esteem. To work towards self sustainability in a climate of austerity and reduced grants and funding, KWC is working towards a social economy business model as a trading arm. The centre operates a regional programme across the Ards North Down and Peninsula area, working from Holywood, the gateway to Co Down to the tip of Portaferry at the most distant part of the peninsula. This work links urban and rural, crosses the different community and social divides and has developed a positive proactive working partnership with the Co Down Rural Network linking towns and villages. The partnership considers collaboration and transfer of innovation, experience and sharing of resources, skills and expertise is the way forward for women, children and families residing or working in the Ards North Down region. Within the centre, we operate a childcare project called Ladybirds Childcare Services, which is registered with the South Eastern Trust Early Years Team for full-time day care. We offer 'Jellie Tots' baby room for the 0-2 year olds and 'Smarties' pre-nursery for 2-4 year olds preparing for their nursery year or transition to P1. Ladybirds Childcare offers affordable childcare to assist women engaged in training or in the transitional period into employment, respite as crisis intervention for vulnerable families and a not-for-profit affordable childcare programe. The centre links with 14 regional women's centres in Northern Ireland through a close working relationship with Women's Support Network (WSN) the umbrella group for Women's Centres NI, who represent our views on the Department for Communities sponsored 'Women's Regional Consortium' which provides a one stop shop information and policy service for women in disadvantaged communities across NI. KWC also co-operates with other regional, national and European partners. KWC are keen to form collaborative and partnership approaches to service delivery to share services and support to deliver value for money and maximise any funding the centre is awarded. To sum us up in a nutshell, we’re a social enterprise (a not for profit organisation) passionate about helping children out of poverty and into a life of success and love. Founded in 2008 by David Montgomery, Goanserve is taking groups of volunteer travellers to help the children of Goa now. David’s Story It all started back in 2005 when my wife and I went to Goa for our twentieth wedding anniversary. Walking through a flea market, we stumbled across a campaign stall for a street child rescue organisation. That was the first time we met Matthew, the co-founder of the award-winning charity El Shaddai. Matthew invited us to his home for dinner that evening and while we chatted over our meal, he shared stories of the children in his care. El Shaddai was working tirelessly to provide food, clothing and shelter for the children but most importantly, the loving and caring environment they deserve. An integral part of the ACOP’s requirements for the control of legionella bacteria is the need to undertake regular monitoring and checks on the systems to ensure that they are operating within the guideline parameters. Regular and routine checks such weekly flushing of infrequently used outlets, sentinel temperature monitoring, shower head descale and disinfection, maintenance and serving of thermostatic mixing valves and system inspections are required to ensure compliance with current regulations and guidelines. By using the information gained during the legionella risk assessment process, Coral can design a bespoke monitoring and testing regime based upon the guideline parameters laid out in ACOP L8. The frequency of inspection and maintenance will depend on the system and the risks it presents. All the inspections and measurements should be recorded. A site-specific water hygiene log book can then be instigated which can be used to record and collate all of the information relating to water hygiene. The upkeep of this log book will ensure your total compliance with current legislation and guidance. We have a bespoke online job management system which allows our clients 24/7 real time access to their records for inspection, recording and auditing purposes.

Falls Women’s Centre was established in 1982 in West Belfast by local women in order to improve the quality of life for women and their families living in areas of extreme deprivation and most affected by the conflict. It is based in West Belfast, a community recognised as one of the poorest in Western Europe. The Falls Women’s Centre was the first of its kind in the area and has continually worked to raise awareness within the community and with statutory agencies on issues that affect women’s lives. The Falls Women's Centre is a community development organisation which, through long term experience and expertise, responds quickly and appropriately to community needs. “These needs are not static but change and evolve as communities themselves change and evolve over time”. The Falls Women’s Centre is a women-only centre. It is staffed and managed entirely by women and is seen as an important support for the community locally, nationally and internationally. The Irish Baptist College was established in Dublin in 1892 by Hugh D. Brown who had close connections with Charles H. Spurgeon, the renowned Baptist preacher in London at that time. In 1964 the College moved to Belfast before relocating to Moira in 2003. Courses provided by the College have been accredited since the 1970s. Graduates of the College are currently located across the globe in a variety of ministry scenarios. In addition to its history, students will also benefit from its location. The College is located in Moira which offers a semi-rural, secluded, quiet and peaceful setting in which to study. It is however just a couple of minutes away from the motorway and is therefore easily accessible from all parts of the island. We are delighted to welcome our new Executive Director Paul Smyth, who comes to us with a wealth of experience and a strong reputation for ground breaking youth work. I am thrilled to have taken up the post of Executive Director with Politics in Action – and I want to start by congratulating my predecessor Patricia O’Lynn on her election to the Northern Ireland Assembly. We live in a turbulent time for politics around the world, nationally and locally – and this makes the work of supporting young people’s role as active citizens more challenging and even more important. We are emerging from a global pandemic which has put unprecedented restrictions on the lives and freedoms of young people, and which has impacted their learning, their social lives, their relationships and for some their mental health. Politics in Action responded proactively to these challenges by moving workshops online and ensuring continuity. I am optimisticwe can return to largely face-to-face delivery of our programmes with young people in schools and other settings, and can find new ways of engaging with more young people and in particular those who are not normally invited into conversations about politics and citizenship. Much of what we already do is in collaboration with schools and with other youth organisations. I see so much potential for additional collaborations that allow our little charity to punch above its weight. One of the many attractions of the role is the excellent Board of Trustees who provide strong governance, leadership and vision for Politics in Action. They bring significant social and political capital to the charity and use it in the interests of young people and our shared future. I would love to hear your ideas about how Politics in Action should direct our energies over the coming months and years. “Every day’s a school day!” I believe this, not just because I have a background in teaching but because life has taught me this through experiences outside the classroom not just in it. My great passions are music, culture and learning. I have travelled extensively and have seen firsthand that regardless of personal story or background we are all incredibly unique and that means there is place in this world that only we as individuals can fill. My favourite things to do include playing the piano, beach or mountain walks, city breaks or a good book or movie. I love stories especially epic ones like Lord of the Rings or The Chronicles of Narnia and have learnt that in truth we all long to see ourselves in a larger story where good triumphs over evil and the hero wins the day. To achieve this requires companionship and trustworthy allies, and for me this defines my goal in partnering with others as their life-coach. My role in life (apart from husband and father) is that of encourager; to walk alongside those who are struggling, or lost, or lonely and help them re-discover or perhaps discover for the first time their worth and value. I am patient and kind and naturally pastoral always regarding people as the priority over processes or profit.

I spent the first half of my career in a thick fog, and of course I got lost and ended up somewhere I didn’t want to be. I felt lost, miserable, and what little confidence I had was waning by the minute. I also became a total bore. I was consumed by how unhappy I was. I couldn’t even apply for another job because I didn’t know what I’d do. So I felt stuck. I had, by many measures, a great job, a great salary, in a great company. But I was in the wrong place. I was ambitious with nowhere to direct it, so it evolved into frustration! It took a fair bit of effort to turn it around, which started with working out what I wanted and developing some much needed confidence to get there. Thankfully I had a good basis with my Psychology degree, throw in a mountain of self-help books, a coaching and NLP qualification, a mountain of training on presenting and the like…and a real desire to build my brand, visbility, and expertise, meant I built a reputation for business and leadership transformation. That experience of having a big impact, being recognised, and having real influence made me feel like I could achieve anything. My values, purpose, and strengths were all aligned and I felt amazing! It came as quite a shock then to be confronted by my inner feminist one day. I’d had my first daughter (I now have 2), and was having a cheeky nap. You know how it is, I love my sleep! So for the first time ever, I sat her down in front of Nickelodeon so I could get some zzz’s. I was happily snoozing away when the advertising started to filter through to me. The ‘boys toys’ were all exciting and adventurous. The ‘girls toys’ made me want to vomit. All about being pretty and vacuous. I jumped off the sofa with an ‘oh hell no’! Ever since I was a little girl I’ve been driven by fairness. I think it may be because I’m the youngest of 4 and nothing ever seemed fair from my standpoint. My sister tells me of times I used to fight for gay rights at the dinner table and I was always arguing for what I felt was right (because it is). The one thing I’d never have called myself back then, or until that day, was a feminist. No, I’d been well trained by society to see feminists as embarrassing, hairy, dungaree-wearing angry women who made a show of themselves. This moment set a chain of events into action that lead me to start a political party where I live, and gave me the direction for the business I would later start.
