ADD-NI was originally established in 1997 as a support network for children, young people and families of those affected by AD/HD: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. ADD-NI provides a unique and specialised service, based in Carryduff. We provide services across Northern Ireland, regionally and now have a satelite office based in Dungannon, The Hub of the North. Our sole aim is to promote and support the needs of those affected by AD/HD. At ADD-NI we firmly believe ’all children with AD/HD deserve the best start in life’ and that this can be best achieved by ’supporting and empowering children, parents and adults’ with early interventions in order to nurture their ability to achieve their full potential and to cope better with difficulties associated with living with the effects of AD/HD. We are physically based in the Stranmillis area of South Belfast but we serve all the people of Belfast. In order to achieve our objectives, we carry out the following activities: Faith Development – enabling those who come to faith in Jesus Christ to grow in their relationship with Him and to the church. We host a church on our premises. Our Christian faith underpins all other aspects of our work and encourages us to work inclusively, with care and love and with particular focus on vulnerable groups, including young people. Youth Development – providing training, information and support to young people. Annually, our youth team engage with around 900 young people across a suite of projects. We deliver schools-based Good Relations training, an internet safety project, sixth form enrichment training, and shared education. Our centre based projects include the Duke of Edinburgh Award/Gaisce – The President's Award, volunteer training, the NI National Citizen Service project and Youth in Government. Family Support – providing childcare, after school programmes and holiday clubs. Health & Fitness – providing facilities for sport and fitness for a healthy lifestyle. Community Engagement – promoting reconciliation through responding to the hurts and issues facing people in a divided community which is emerging from conflict. Social Enterprise – developing initiatives which meet our charitable objectives through providing a viable service to the community. All income generated is invested back into our charitable projects.

Enhancing quality of life and employability for people with mental health needs.Action Mental Health (AMH) actively promotes the mental health and well-being of people in Northern Ireland. Action Mental Health grew from humble beginnings in Downpatrick in 1963 when it was known as the Industrial Therapy Organisation. Back then it was tucked away out of sight, in tune with the stigmas of the day. Today however, AMH has emerged as the standard bearer within Northern Ireland’s Third Sector – helping to smash the stigma of mental illness for all sections of the community. Action Mental Health is multi-faceted, offering myriad services. Integral to the organisation is its nine New Horizons services, dotted across Northern Ireland – north, south, east and west, where clients benefit from a variety of personal development, vocational skills and employability training options including accredited qualifications and work placements. A variety of resilience-building techniques are also pivotal to our range of services delivered to school children and young people in further and higher education. Services provided also include a full range of therapeutic counselling for children, young people, adults, families including services for the deaf community. The charity also offers a whole gamut of services for young and old alike, designed to promote mental well-being for those in work and currently unemployed; those affected by chronic pain or debilitating long-term illnesses; people living with eating disorders and also a dedicated service in Bangor for people with learning disabilities.

We are delighted to welcome our new Executive Director Paul Smyth, who comes to us with a wealth of experience and a strong reputation for ground breaking youth work. I am thrilled to have taken up the post of Executive Director with Politics in Action – and I want to start by congratulating my predecessor Patricia O’Lynn on her election to the Northern Ireland Assembly. We live in a turbulent time for politics around the world, nationally and locally – and this makes the work of supporting young people’s role as active citizens more challenging and even more important. We are emerging from a global pandemic which has put unprecedented restrictions on the lives and freedoms of young people, and which has impacted their learning, their social lives, their relationships and for some their mental health. Politics in Action responded proactively to these challenges by moving workshops online and ensuring continuity. I am optimisticwe can return to largely face-to-face delivery of our programmes with young people in schools and other settings, and can find new ways of engaging with more young people and in particular those who are not normally invited into conversations about politics and citizenship. Much of what we already do is in collaboration with schools and with other youth organisations. I see so much potential for additional collaborations that allow our little charity to punch above its weight. One of the many attractions of the role is the excellent Board of Trustees who provide strong governance, leadership and vision for Politics in Action. They bring significant social and political capital to the charity and use it in the interests of young people and our shared future. I would love to hear your ideas about how Politics in Action should direct our energies over the coming months and years. Connected for Life was set up in January 2016 by Marie Blaney and Deirdre McLaughlin who are social workers with over 50 years combined experience working with young people who have been involved in offending, their families, victims and communities, as well as supporting staff in this work. Throughout their careers Marie and Deirdre have seen the pervasive wounds created by childhood adversity, attachment issues and trauma. These issues transmit from generation to generation and permeate communities, contributing to substance misuse, mental health problems, suicide, violence, family breakdown, unemployment and educational underachievement, homelessness, hopelessness and shame. Through working with those who were often deemed inherently flawed and irredeemable, Marie and Deirdre learned that there is always hope. While many of those they worked with tragically lost their lives, others thrived despite significant adversity and were able to desist from offending and become the best versions of themselves.

Welcome to this website of the Northern Ireland Commission for Catholic Education which will act as a hub of information for Catholic education within Northern Ireland. As well as providing links to the schools within the Catholic Managed Sector in N.I. it will also link to other education partners. In addition, it will provide those interested in Catholic education with resources, guidance and policies to assist them in their work. It will also be a place of celebration for Catholic education and include examples of the Catholic ethos alive in our schools. Across Northern Ireland there are 489 Catholic schools serving the needs of 45.5% of the school population. Our schools, working with the parents as the primary educators of their children, strive to ensure that children and young people discover their uniqueness as individuals and develop their gifts and talents as full members of a faith community. Northern Ireland has experienced conflict. But our schools are not some sort of quaint relic from a divided past. They have shown themselves to be active contributors to reconciliation and the Common Good. Our schools are open and welcoming to children and young people of all nationalities and of all faiths and to those who have no religious affiliation. Within our schools we promote a belief that difference is to be understood and celebrated as a source of enrichment. This mission is undertaken by Governors, school leaders and staff who are dedicated and committed to supporting the children and young people in their care and the communities in which they are located.
