About After studying illustration, Stacey Chapman worked as a designer of interiors for events and corporate launches. She began Freehand Machine Embroidery after viewing the process on Kirstie Allsopp’s Channel 4 show. In November 2013 she founded her business, Art Sea Craft Sea, creating pet portraits in thread, to commission. Her unique application of the freehand machine embroidery process and background as an illustrator, enables her to create strikingly life like thread paintings. Since then she has exhibited around the UK at events ranging from Crufts to Countryfile Live and Kirstie Allsopp's Handmade Fair. Stacey was proud to be taken under the wing of Janome in 2016 and has taught workshops at their custom built sewing school at their HQ in Stockport. Chapman has gone on to teach creative sewing workshops around the country from regular sessions at John Lewis in Oxford Street to her hometown of Margate, Kent. For these sessions at the luxe Sands Hotel, Stacey was nominated for a Tourism and Hospitality Award in 2019 as well as being shortlisted for the National Needlecraft Awards in the same year. In 2020 started teaching online for the prestigious teaching college for the W.I., Denman at Home. As well as writing her monthly column for the UK's best selling sewing magazine, Love Sewing, Stacey still creates and exhibits in local galleries with her vintage style portraiture and fashion Illustrations featuring up cycled retro fabrics, revisiting a technique she began at school.

After 34 years working as a graphic designer/illustrator and photographer, I made a career change in 2018 to concentrate on my love of art, crafts, making and printing. Natural forms/plants, landscapes and architecture are my favourite subjects to work with but nothing is out of the question if it inspires me. Gel plate monoprinting allows me to work with all of these in various combinations, printing onto gift tags, envelopes, glass, wood, fabric and large format paper. I also eco-print using leaves, flowers and natural plant/vegetable dyes, but am also a big fan of using commercial small batch dyes for quick results with fabrics. The ‘making’ aspect of my work allows me to produce small bespoke items. Brooches are a favourite, with each one being hand painted and therefore a one-off (even if the colour way is similar). My latest are formed from a birch plywood base, which I choose to source externally rather than make myself, and therefore help to support another business. I also enjoy teaching and really love seeing others learn something new and take home the items and skills they have acquired.....hopefully with the inspiration to do more! The photography side of my work still ticks over in the background with images and items that I sell on Redbubble. I have also remained a contributor to online photo libraries including Dreamstime and Adobe Stock. Commissioned work is something I take on now and again when time allows. My career as an artist started in 1996 when I was asked to illustrate articles from a national religious magazine in Italy. Through the years I developed skills in both digital illustration and hand paint with watercolour and acrylic. In 2002 I decided to take it further and attend a school of art and, in 2005, I graduated as a Comics illustrator and special effects artist. Since I was always attracted by the movie world, I decided to use my new certificate to approach this fantastic world. I worked few years for a production company which took me away from my Country of origin and gave me the opportunity to develop my skills as an artist and writer. I wrote several screenplays for the big screen and illustrated storyboards on a daily basis and here is when I started thinking about writing and illustrating stories for children. “The first tale of Sarah” in fact was born as an idea for a children’s movie but not developed more than a script. In 2015 I moved in the UK and I started working on my first personal project “The Tale of Sarah”, a three books series which I’m writing and illustrating. The first one was published in 2017 and I’m currently working on the second volume. My goal in sharing these stories is to share a message of hope with readers of all ages. As an artist I keep on developing my skills every day and trying new ways and techniques to improve my illustrations. In 2018, I enrolled BA in Illustration at the Open College of the Arts.

Her latest film work includes buttons for "Napoleon" and "Lee". She has created buttons & trimmings for various series including “The Crown”, “Becoming Elizabeth” , “A Stitch in Time”. She is the author of a number of books including Buttons, A Passementerie Workshop Manual, Dorset Ring Buttons, Thread Wrapped Buttons, Zwirnknopf Buttons and the Making Passementerie range of instructional DVDs. She appears on the Create & Craft channel with demonstrations of passementerie techniques, representing her company Gina-B Silkworks. Gina is the contributor for the Passementerie entry in the Encyclopaedia of Medieval Dress and Textiles of the British Isles c. 450-1450 (Brill).
