Stronger together . . . every child in a great school Welcome to Westcountry Schools Trust (WeST); a tight-knit family of schools based around natural geographical proximity in the South West. Initially formed as a small multi academy trust of only two schools in 2011, the Trust has experienced several iterations of growth and change. In essence, WeST as we recognise it today, was launched in September 2017 with the ambition of delivering exceptional education for 2-19 years olds with the additional ability to provide both undergraduate and postgraduate study through The Learning Institute (TLI). Whilst school trusts are now common place across the educational landscape, WeST significantly differs from many by not only having a Teaching School but through its Higher Education provision via TLI. The WeST family now extends to 27 schools of which 8 are secondary and 19 primary. All 19 primary schools naturally transition children into a WeST secondary school, an area of work we wish to further strengthen as our work matures. WeST holds a firm belief in giving each child every opportunity to learn and succeed in all that they do. Whilst we are a family of schools who share common values and beliefs, all our schools are unique and hold their own identity. We believe that by working collectively, sharing what works well and jointly developing best practice, we are stronger together and can provide the very best education for our children in our geographical area. Like many people, I was driven from a young age by a need for success, approval and security. It’s one of the reasons that I went to Cambridge to study natural sciences. My career in law was another way to achieve these aspirations. My law career was successful. I enjoyed it, for a time. I became an equity partner and the head of intellectual property and technology. I was on the board of a global top 20 law firm in London. It took me falling ill with heart disease at 37 to realise that I wasn’t working towards my true purpose. My illness was shocking. How could I, an athletic young woman, get this disease more common in older men? It made me question my identity. I began a process of training, self-discovery and learning that took me all over the world. I learned from some of the greatest teachers in coaching and self-transformation today. I realised that my thought processes and my attitude to work were not healthy. There were also many aspects of my work environment that were toxic for me. I couldn’t continue living a life that I didn’t believe in. It was time to make a significant change. I created Rachel Boothroyd Training and Coaching because I wanted to help people and businesses flourish in a sustainable, healthy way. I wanted to provide experiential training, to create motivated and engaged people, who would go on to achieve greater things for themselves and the businesses they worked for. Who could do this in a sustainable way, in workplaces with healthy cultures, with open communication, purpose and, yes, even fun. I am a heart ambassador for the British Heart Foundation and speak at events and in the media to raise heart health awareness.

Research, along with teaching, forms our identity. Research is one of the factors that makes Trinity the leading university in Ireland and a university of international standing. The research we do here in Trinity is diverse and rich. We take pride in being research active across all three of our faculties - Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences; Engineering, Maths & Science; and Health Sciences. The Trinity Campaign is built around the theme Inspiring Generations, a theme that is very apt for research as our work looks to understand the past as well as build the future. Our Research Charter provides a context for how we work. The Charter is the result of a highly consultative process that engaged people from different disciplines and divisions across Trinity. The Charter is our public commitment to the values that underpin our research. We also warmly embrace the principles set out in the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment. One of the seven principles in our Charter is ‘Standing Up for Research’. This is especially important in today’s world. We need to ensure that the neutral voice of the expert researcher is taken seriously, that research continues to be resourced, and that research continues to matter. Scottish BPOC Writers Network (SBWN) is an advocacy and professional development group for Scottish or Scotland-based writers and literary professionals who identify as BPOC (Black people, People of Colour).* Contact us Frequently Asked Questions Membership Membership is free and open to any BPOC* writer or literary professional who is Scottish and/or based in Scotland and participates in our online or venue-based events or spaces, or publishing or literary opportunities. Membership may be extended to BPOC writers or literary professionals based outwith Scotland on occasion. Commissioned artists will typically be from the BPOC and/or SBWN communities. SBWN may work with volunteers, partners and allies who identify as BPOC, or white, or another racial or ethnic identity. Some events or activities may be open to the general public or the wider literary community. We have adopted a Constitution. We operate a Safer Spaces Policy during all events, projects and initiatives. *Please see our Mission and Values page for who we are talking about when we say ‘Scottish BPOC writers.’ History Formerly known as Scottish BAME Writers Network (2018-2021), SBWN was co-founded in 2018 by Alycia Pirmohamed and Jay Gao, and aims to connect Scottish BPOC writers with the wider literary sector in Scotland and beyond. Weaving together collaborative literary partnerships, cross-arts co-creation and an intersectional approach to inclusive and participatory programming, SBWN is a sector change-maker, facilitating necessary conversations around inclusive programming in an effort to address and overcome systemic barriers. Professional development programming includes publishing and performance opportunities, workshops, masterclasses, curatorial roles, training and seminars, industry panels and partnerships, feedback and mentoring. Run by BPOC writers for BPOC writers, and informed by member surveys, consultation and feedback, SBWN uplifts, validates and provides safer spaces for marginalised voices, nurturing and promoting the current and next generation of Black and POC writers based in Scotland.

Hi, I'm Loren Snow: an autism trainer based in Bristol. I’ve spent the past decade studying mental health, psychology, relationships, identity, and just about anything to do with why we humans think and act the way we do. I believe that we're all human, and make mistakes, fumble, fall, laugh, love - and despite our differences, we all share this same connection. I'm a strong believer in having the courage to be open and honest and that our truth and vulnerability can be powerful forces in showing us how connected we really are. In my early-twenties I was diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, and OCD. For me, these were revelations, and all the strange ways I behaved started to make sense. But why in my twenties... surely someone should have noticed or said something?!? As I came to learn more about autism I soon realised that my experience was all too common. The reality is there are many complicated things around autism, such as echolalia, alexithymia, and proprioception; there are many misconceptions in the media, such as autistic people lacking empathy; and there are many mis/un-diagnosed autistic adults out there like I used to be. This made me decide that I should explain these things so others wouldn't have to struggle as I did. I've spoken on podcasts, radio, to large and small crowds. My YouTube videos have been watched by tens of thousands! I've taught thousands of parents of autistic and ADHD children and teach regular courses to parents and autistic people. I see many businesses confused about how to help, parents lost on what to believe, and autistic people struggling to understand themselves. So what better place to learn about autism than directly from an autistic person like myself!

We are Barnardo’s Healthy Minds Wiltshire, run by Barnardo’s and funded by Wiltshire Council. Barnardo’s believes in early intervention, providing support for children and young people before they face more serious mental health issues. With the right support, young people can transform their lives . Growing up is a challenge for everyone, but for some it’s more difficult than others. We offer practical and emotional support so that young people can enter adulthood with the confidence they need to achieve their full potential. We run many services across the UK, supporting young people’s emotional health and wellbeing, from one-to-one counselling to group work and schools-based programmes. This website has lots of information, practical tips and advice about supporting children and young people’s emotional wellbeing. We are here to help young people aged 5-18 registered with a GP in Wiltshire who are experiencing a range of early mental health difficulties through group work, activities in the community and counselling sessions for those young people who need more intensive support. We are also an all year round service and so our support does not stop in school holidays. We welcome referrals from young people, parents, carers and professionals.
