Air Rifle shooting in the heart of West LondonWelcome to West London Rangers Air Rifle Club website. We are an air rifle and air pistol club for those over 18 years of age only, who wish to shoot non-FAC air guns. We shoot ‘knock-down’ metal targets in the Hunter Field Target (HFT) discipline and meet on alternate Sundays throughout the year, plus some extra dates in the summer. The club has a dedicated pistol range, three rifle practice ranges and a nice wooded area for HFT competitions and practice days. We also love to indulge our passion for vintage rifles and pistols (both modern and vintage) with many members bringing their kit down and reminding us all how these shooting sports first came to life. Sometimes its just for fun and sometimes we get a bit more competitive but it is certainly an enjoyable and growing element of the club. We offer a limited number of supervised sessions for “newbies” or “semi-experienced” shooters and can hire our Air Arms S400 (PCP) or the Gamo GX40 (PCP) or the Weihrauch HW97K (Springer) rifle for a very reasonable £10 per day for those without guns who wish to try their hand before taking a host of advice as to which kit to buy! Our goal is to provide a safe environment to promote the sport of air rifle and air pistol shooting. New members, both experienced or new to the sport, are welcome. Jan Pearce grew up in the Northern California equestrian community of Woodside. As an amateur junior, Jan won countless hunter and jumper championships on the California and Arizona circuits. In 1980, Jan was persuaded to go to work for Butch Thomas, traveling with, caring for, and working his string of Grand Prix horses as they competed in world class events in Canada and the Eastern U.S. She subsequently worked for Gary Ryman, another successful Grand Prix rider, and learned how to handle young thoroughbreds at Tom Bachman’s Pegasus Farms in Sebastopol California. In 1985, Jan discovered teaching and in 1992 she started JP Training, building her own training business at Portola Farms in Woodside where she has since remained. Jan has designed her successful program to enable riders of all ages and abilities to receive the instruction they need to progress, whether they aspire to success at the Grand Prix or Rusty Stirrup level, or prefer not to compete. Owing to her experience with young thoroughbreds and her exposure to the Grand Prix circuit Jan has had much success developing green horses with her clients. She also has a reputation for creating the best horse and rider combinations. Not all JP Training clients go to shows but for the benefit of those who do compete, Jan has a wealth of experience to share. She is committed to making a horse show a successful, enjoyable and a learning experience for those who go – to the extent that Jan was named 2008 Woodside Horse Show Circuit Trainer of the Year and Chef d’ Equipe for the 2009 1.30M Norcal Team for the Spruce Meadows Prix de Nations.

ABOUT WAVERLEY EQUESTRIAN TRAINING CENTRE Originally founded in the grounds of Stoneleigh Abbey WEC moved firstly to Cubbington, near Leamington Spa, and is now based at The 3B's (Bubbenhall Bridge Barn).   We are very proud of the large selection of stunning horses who form part of The 3Bs family.   They are trained in a variety of equestrian disciplines including Cross-country jumping, Cavalry Drills, Eventing Clinics, Team Chases, Hunter Trials, Trekking and Riding to Hounds.  Polo lessons, chukkas and tournaments are available at the nearby Offchurch Bury Polo club and also we can organise outings to Knights of Middle England for instruction in riding Side-saddle, jousting, horse archery and trick riding.   We can tailor our events to suit the needs of our clients, however our horses are not suitable for beginner riders or children under 12. The 3Bs is approximately two hours from Gatwick Airport, one hour and 20 minutes from Heathrow and only half an hour from Birmingham International Airport.  Trains  from London Euston to Coventry, or from Marylebone to Leamington Spa, take just over an hour.   We are happy to meet our guests from either station and from Birmingham Airport. Our Accommodation is all en-suite with family-style dining and a congenial atmosphere with just a hint of magic! For the non-riders, or non-riding hours, we are a short distance from Stratford-upon-Avon, the castles of Warwick and Kenilworth, and there are no less than 5 excellent golf-courses within 10 minutes from the barn. Michael and Diana Jack, Waverley's proprietors, have a tennis court, swimming pool and croquet lawn at their nearby home in the grounds of Stoneleigh Abbey and often invite their guests to join them for an afternoon or evening of activities in their lovely garden. Waverley has its own breeding programme and regularly has young foals and young horses needing attention.

James Ewart Racing Ltd was founded in 2004 as a Flat and National Hunt racing yard: initially buying and selling French horses to U.K. owners whilst establishing training facilities. Amongst his early purchases were Dark Ben and My Way de Solzen. James has particularly strong links with France resulting in a high proportion of French horses in the yard but has also had great success with Irish and English horses. He has trained multiple Bumper, Hurdle and Chase winners with some horses winning 12 times and he is always striving to improve the quality of his string. THE TEAM James Ewart James was brought up around horses all his life and as a child enjoyed jumping large hedges on small ponies in the Wynnstay country! Teenage stints followed with work experience at Nicky Henderson, John Leadbetter and Jonjo O’Neill followed by a course at the Royal Agricultural College studying Land Management. Then on to Ferdy Murphy for three years as Amateur Assistant and over to France for four years with Guillaume Macaire as Assistant Trainer - some highlights being Champion Amateur Jockey 2000 and taking Jair du Cochet on his UK raids. Briony Ewart Briony spent her childhood under the tutelage of the legendary East Anglian trainer ‘EAP’ – Miss Pickard. Highlights included winning the Champion East Anglian Native Working Hunter Pony and twice qualifying as an individual for the Pony Club Eventing Championships. At the Royal Agricultural College (now University) she met James and spent a summer in France with Guillaume Macaire before working for two years at the Shadwell Stud and in 2004 helped James set up James Ewart Racing. She has been responsible for breaking in and producing many winners including Wilde Pastures, Open De L’Isle and Capital Venture. Briony still continues with breaking in, is a regular work rider and helps with the horses at the races. As a hobby she enjoys competing on Neil Ewart’s homebred Fells whose bloodlines go back 60 years. David Macleod – Head Lad David has spent a lifetime in racing and has worked at Newmarket and at Middleham with Mark Johnston. He has a wealth of experience in all aspects of horse management and their wellbeing and is a vital member of the team. Charles Marini - Assistant Trainer Charles has returned to the yard as Assistant Trainer and is plays an important part in the running of the yard. sheffield jazz workshop

Sheffield Jazz runs a Saturday Morning Workshop providing an opportunity for people who play an instrument or sing to learn about and explore the theory and practice of jazz improvisation in a supportive group environment. The Workshop is now in its 40th year! There are currently five groups running each Saturday morning which are loosely graded from beginners to more experienced, each under the guidance of a tutor who is a jazz musician with wide experience of playing and teaching. Twice a year a concert will be arranged where each group will perform material that has been worked on during the preceding sessions. Who’s it for? Sheffield Jazz Workshop is intended for adults but is open to under-18s with parental consent, provided they are able to participate and behave appropriately in the group. Individual instrument tuition is not provided – some basic ability on your chosen instrument is required. Some familiarity with music theory would be helpful but is not a requirement. Anyone interested in exploring jazz improvisation is welcome to join in. The best way to find out if it’s right for you is to give it a try, including just listening and observing without an instrument at first if you so wish. The Workshop does not own or provide any equipment so you need to bring your own gear. Keyboard players need to bring an electric keyboard as the rooms we use don’t have pianos. Guitarists and bass players will need to bring an amp. Vocalists will need a mic and an amp unless you have a very strong voice! Bear in mind you’ll probably be in a room with 6 – 10 saxophones or brass instruments and need enough amplification to be heard in that context. Everyone else bring your instrument (and a music stand plus pencil and paper). Where, when and how much? Location: King Edward’s Upper School, Glossop Road, Sheffield, S10 2PW (near to the Hallamshire Hospital and King Edward’s Swimming Pool – car park access from Glossop Rd or Newbould Lane) Time: 10.00 am –12.30 pm on Saturdays, most Saturdays during school term time. We are based in Bonnyrigg and offer a wide range of Learner, Advanced and Fleet driving courses in Edinburgh, Midlothian, East Lothian, Central Scotland and the Scottish Borders. Magnum Driver Training was founded by two former Traffic Police officers and the aim of Dave Irvine and John Hunter was to teach and promote safer driver training. Another retired officer Jim Brunton joined the company and is heading up the learner side of the business. Dave has retired from learner lessons although will still be involved in Advanced testing and fleet driver training. Dave and Jim have more than 40 years traffic driving experience. They are Scottish Police College Advanced Driving Certificates holders, members of the Institute of Advanced Motorists, fully qualified DSA Approved Driving Instructors and Pass Plus registered instructors. Dave is an examiners and fleet trainer with the IAM (Formally the Institute of Advanced Motorists, now IAM RoadSmart). He also holds the RoSPA Gold Diploma in Advanced Instruction and is an examiner for RoSPA. Dave also holds an IAM RoadSmart Masters Certificate in Advanced Driving with distinction and an Institute of the Motor Industry Examiners qualification. As the company has established an excellent reputation we are able to offer wide range of driver training courses at a variety of levels.
