In 1999, West Dunbartonshire SIP commissioned research on the needs of local young people from Dumbarton, Vale of Leven and Clydebank. Findings highlighted overwhelming support for the introduction of some form of youth information service. A steering group, comprising local young people and adults was set up and the idea of a youth led information and support project; for young people by young people was developed with funding from West Dunbartonshire Partnership, Scottish Enterprise Dunbartonshire and Greater Glasgow NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. In January the Y Sort-It Youth Information Centre on Kilbowie road was launched with four full-time members of staff, led by a management committee made up of the young members of the steering group and this committee is still the main driving force for the project today(though its members have changed from year to year). In 2014 Y Sort-It moved to its huge new base located besides the Clydebank Hub on West Thomson Street. Where before the base had been a small and sometime cramped place to hold meetings and groups the new base was is now a massive difference and as such the opportunities are now boundless. Our Facilities Y Sort It youth centre provides a dedicated youth friendly space with various weekly youth activities offered throughout the West Dunbartonshire are . Our Y Sort It outreach bus helps provide youth activities across the local communities of West Dunbartonshire and our unique Carbeth hut, the Gillie Dhu, provides an opportunity for young people and children to enjoy the outdoors located in the Carbeth Hutting Community, Stirlingshire. We also developed a local shop front into a bike maintenance work shop & training space for our StreetBikes initiative.

In 2016, Brunel celebrated 50 years as a university. However, our history can be traced back much further to 1798 through our predecessor colleges of Borough Road College, Maria Grey College, Shoreditch College and the West London Institute of Higher Education and as well as through Acton Technical College then Brunel College. Our rise since 1966 has been impressive and our reputation grows year on year. Now a university of 12,746 students – 3,309 students engaged in postgraduate and research study – our special approach is to combine academic rigour with the practical, entrepreneurial and imaginative approach pioneered by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The decision to be named after Isambard Kingdom Brunel was taken after much discussion. Rather than name the new College after a location, Dr Topping, the first Vice Chancellor of Brunel University (and former Principal of Brunel College) pleaded that the name should be a well-known person preferably an engineer or scientist associated in some way with Middlesex or Acton. Agreement was reached in March 1957 that person would be Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-1859) is one of the great British engineers of the 19th century. Isambard was born into an industrious family in 1806, with his mother Sophia Kingdom working for the Royal Navy and father Marc Brunel being a prominent French engineer. Isambard took on formal training as an engineer and went on to build twenty-five railways lines, over a hundred bridges, including five suspension bridges, eight pier and dock systems, three ships and a pre-fabricated army field hospital.To add to this he was a keen social engineer, building housing estates, churches and hospitals. For years I was a PA for small and large companies but always had a passion for Yoga and other fitness concepts, however I always came back to Yoga. I have suffered with sciatica and I also have Spondylolisthesis and was referred to a physiotherapist. My condition was treated and Pilates was recommended. I noticed that my posture was misaligned, due to age, sitting down for long periods of time and generally bad habits. After sessions with a chiropractor and physiotherapist because I was suffering with headaches, I discovered I had Spondylolisthesis in my lumbar spine and arthritis in my cervical spine. I had not at that time experienced any real pain and because I was practising Pilates and Yoga regularly I was doing what I needed to. I know what can aggravate it and avoid back bends which I also have experienced sciatica which is painful and debilitating and can be a bi-product of spondy. Both of these conditions are painful and Spondylolisthesis can be progressive and would need an operation is I got to Level 3. Since I was diagnosed in 2010 at Level 1-2 I have not experienced any problems and hope by putting in the work with Pilates and Yoga I can keep an operation at bay!!! I started my training for my own personal reasons however, because the benefits are huge, I decided to start teaching and haven't looked back. My posture has improved immensely and I am aware that Yoga and Pilates is a lifetime improvement programme, one tried and tested over the years. I completed my Yoga 200 hour alliance training with FRYOG, their motto is "Friendly yoga with a smile". I particularly enjoyed learning the philosophy and history of yoga and enjoyed reading and studying the spiritual texts, and have benefitted hugely in my life practising pranayama and meditation.

First established in 1987, we have helped support generations of educators and lobbied successfully for the introduction of compulsory Relationships and Sex Education in England. In April 2021 we established ourselves as an independent charity. As the voice of Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) in England we promote and protect the physical and mental health of children and young people by improving their access to RSE. We bring together our partners and wider stakeholders to share best practice, research, monitor the provision of RSE, explore and respond to new themes and identify gaps. Working together with our partners, members and wider stakeholders is central to everything we do. We support educators with high quality training, resources and a membership scheme, so they can be competent and confident providers of RSE, in partnership with parents, carers, children and young people. We gather international evidence about effective RSE and use this to inform policy and practice and to increase public understanding of the benefits of RSE. Established in 1987, the Sex Education Forum has a long history of influencing policy, that is grounded in the latest research and evidence, and supporting educators with resources and advice. After 34 years of being hosted at the National Children’s Bureau, we established ourselves as an independent charity in April 2021. For schools, educators, researchers and other professionals involved in RSE, the Sex Education Forum is an indispensable source of knowledge and support - we hope you will consider joining us. Our Anti Racist Superhero workshops are a creative and interactive way to develop young peoples understanding of allyship and the introductory terminology around racism. Focusing on allyship to allow a deeper understanding and acceptance of all around us. The workshop is filled with storytelling, creativity and of course our favourite book detective exercise, allowing young people to actively explore doing their own research and learning. Through exploring what racism is and what it means to be anti racist young people take part in a range of creative learning, developing a range of skills and of course team work! LITERARY LEADERS Our Literary Leaders programme blends the traditional book club environment to allow young people to explore stories that explore black history and culture, alongside the work of BIPOC exploring stories of all kinds. Through exploring various kinds of literature from fiction, non fiction, blogs, articles and more our Literary Leaders learn the tools for the five types of writing expository, descriptive, narrative persuasive and creative to ensure that all stories are head and express what they feel needs to be shared with their local and wider community. ANTI RACISM WORKSHOPS(Organisations, Staff, Teachers) Our anti racism workshops for community organisations and schools all start with an initial call to talk with your organisation lead or designated EDI lead to help tailor the workshop to where your school is at on it’s journey in inclusivity and allyship. Our workshops look at; The Protected Characteristics, Unconscious Bias and practical tools and frameworks that allow you to look at where growth is needed within your organisation and where to develop in becoming transformational when it comes to race equality and inclusivity in your organisation.

The Latin motto of our college is Pro Petri Fide which means For the Love of Peter. Jesus made Saint Peter the leader of the Apostles and it was on Saint Peter’s faith that Jesus said he would build his Church, Bishop Milner Catholic College is part of this Church and our faith is indeed the faith of Peter. Therefore, our college is committed to offering Christian love and care to each person within it irrespective of their faith background. As such, everyone is valued as a gift from God and treated with utmost respect. Our History Up to 1960 there was no secondary school in Dudley for Roman Catholic children. At the end of 1956 approval was given to build a three storey Roman Catholic secondary school for 400 students. Construction of Bishop Milner Catholic School began September 1957. The build cost of this new school was estimated at around £191,000, it was to include a gymnasium, science and art rooms, a library and a large assembly hall. As the school buildings neared completion, it was decided that the school would be named after Bishop John Milner, the vicar Apostolic of the Midlands. The official opening took place on 21st September 1960 and was conducted by the Most Rev. Francis Grimshaw, Archbishop of Birmingham. There have been many changes to the original building over the years. In 1963 a three floor extension was added to the main building along with a new dining hall. In September 1981 a “Secretary’s” block was also opened. In September 1994 a new large two storey building was built, which included drama and dance studios. In 2003 construction was well underway of what was to become the Bishop Milner Catholic College of today , with multiple ICT suites, Learning Resource Centre, study areas and many new class rooms to replace the 1960s buildings.

PARADICE A BRIEF HISTORY One day in the early 1970’s Ross Blong, a farmer with imagination as it turned out, came home from a particularly unpleasant milking and told his wife Nell he had enough and wanted to find something different to do! After searching for a “people business” they decided on an ice skating rink in Glen Innes and purchased it in 1974. After a steep learning curve they established Paradice on the map as a great family entertainment facility in Auckland. By 1980 they had dreams of building New Zealand’s first international size indoor arena and had it up and running by May 1981 at our current Avondale location at Lansford Cresent. It has been popular ever since with families and as a “hang out” for teens and young adults. There have been several transformations since its opening with the most recent being completed in 2011 to include a state of the art ice floor, dasher boards and refrigeration system. By the late 1990’s the second family generation having being heavily involved in ice sports at an international level dreamed of a second, Olympic sized indoor ice rink, again a first for New Zealand, and it was built in 1999 at its current location Botany Downs. The rink is still going strong today. In 2012 Paradice owned and operated Auckland’s first temporary outdoor ice rink at Aotea Square which has turned into an annual winter wonderland type event with the addition of NZ’s first event ice slide in 2014. Our temporary ice rinks have expanded to Rotorua, Wellington, and Taupo. Through the years Paradice has operated as a family, customer focused friendly business with staff sharing their passion for people and ice with innovation!

We support parents with aspirations for their teenagers – those who want to gain admission to top universities. We help to improve Exam Grades in Core Academic subjects at GCSE and A-level. On average, our students are performing at around a B grade in school before they join us; within a year, they improve by about two grade points. Our main programmes are: Saturday School during term time and Intensive Revision during school holidays. We also have flexible unit-based learning and the premium Consultation Tuition (one-to-one by a top consultant teacher). At the start of the pandemic, we temporarily moved online but we have now opened our centres again for in-person teaching; however, we still run separate online lessons for those who prefers online. Our centres are now open for in-person teaching at: St James School, Kensington Olympia and Trinity School in East Croydon*. We cover the core academic subjects of Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English at both GCSE and A-level. In addition to all the above, we also provide for Further Maths, Economics, History and Psychology at A-level. At GCSE, we cover Further Maths and all the science options – Triple and Combined (double or trilogy) Our teachers are of the highest quality and we have a proven track record for over 16 years. Excel in Key Subjects consists of a group of fully qualified and highly experienced secondary school teachers. Some teach in the Independent and some in the State sector. Our main objective is to help improve grades. We provide classes in small groups for students aged 13 to 19 on Saturdays. We also have a Revision programmes during School holidays.
