While the name Education Training Collective is relatively new to the Further Education sector, the group is far from new. The group’s member colleges have a strong history of providing high quality education, which dates almost 70 years. Founding member Stockton Riverside College was established in Stockton on Tees in 1950 and remained a standalone college until merging with Bede Sixth Form, Billingham, in 2008. (Note: Stockton Riverside College was formerly known as Stockton Billingham Technical College) Following this successful merger, the group opened The Skills Academy in Billingham in 2015, a three-way partnership between the college, Stockton Borough Council and Eggleslciffe School, merged again with NETA Training Group, Stockton, in August 2015 and then most recently with Redcar and Cleveland College in August 2018. In 2019, the group made the further decision to change its name to more accurately reflect the diversity of all of its campuses while still maintaining all of the individual college names – and the Education Training Collective was born.

Welcome to our inspirational school that is delivering a unique, quality and individualised High School education to autistic students. Lighthouse School came about through five families with children on the autistic spectrum who had identified a great demand for a school that specifically met the needs of students on the autistic spectrum. Our vision was to create a school where students can thrive, where their needs are fully understood and met, where learning is individualised and aligned to their destination, and where the environment supports their specific learning styles. We want to enable our students to develop independence, a true sense of their own self-worth and the capacity to contribute to society and live a full and happy life. The Government’s Free School Programme gave us the ideal vehicle to turn the vision into reality and we were fortunate to be the first Special Free School in the country to open its doors in September 2012.

Leeds Animation Workshop is a not-for-profit, cooperative company, run by women, which produces and distributes animated films and films on social and educational issues. The organisation began in 1976 as a group of women friends who came together to make a film about the need for pre-school childcare. After completing WHO NEEDS NURSERIES? - WE DO! the group was formally established in 1978 as Leeds Animation Workshop. Throughout its history the Workshop has been run by women, who have carried out all stages of the production process, from initial research to final distribution. The films are all produced in consultation with organisations and individuals involved in the relevant field. The Workshop specialises in making complex or sensitive issues more accessible to audiences, and at times offering an alternative point of view. As well as production and distribution, the Workshop has been involved in many other activities, such as organising screenings of films by women and black directors, and providing workshop sessions in basic animation for adults and young people.

Leeds Sanctuary is a network of communities in Leeds City Centre, that each begin with encounter and embody sanctuary and justice, through which individuals and the city flourish in the ways of God’s Kingdom. You can read more about those core values here. We create spaces and resources on and offline for people to connect more deeply with themselves, one another and important issues of social justice. We are exploring craftivism, meditation, mindfulness, climate change, wellbeing, Christian spirituality and much more. We create free mindfulness, meditation and craftivist resources, which are available on our blog. We also run in person events on these themes as well as wellbeing sessions for different groups. If you are interested in learning more about any of this, contact us here. We work in partnership with many organisations and are always looking for new ways of connecting. We are a Christian project for people of all faiths and none run by the Yorkshire West Methodist District. We are building on a strong history of Methodism in Leeds City Centre.

Cambridge Open College has been providing distance learning, home study, open learning and correspondence courses since 2006. The College’s founders have more than 25 years combined expertise in education generally, and distance learning (also known as home study) in particular. Few distance-learning establishments have more experience at a “hands on” level; we’ve all been tutors and assessors in the sector for many years. Heavy investment in state-of-the-art technology has typified the College’s development, particularly in its more recent history. Our systems are second to none, and make your learning experience as enjoyable and hassle-free as possible. The College provides more than 120 courses across 5 faculties, successful completion of which result in nationally recognised qualifications listed on the Qualification Credit Framework (QCF), or certification for specialist bespoke (unregulated) qualifications. Most are endorsed or accredited by some of the UK’s most prolific Awarding Organisations. The college’s students come from all walks of life, and undertake the courses for a wide range of reasons, including career enhancement, continuous professional development (CPD), and studying purely for fun to expand their existing knowledge of a hobby or stimulating subject. The managing partner, Steven Chambers, has over 30 years strategic and operational experience as a manager and Business Consultant. He was one of the first managers in Northern Ireland to receive the daunting accreditation of Chartered Manager in 2005. This was achieved through a demanding process of independent feedback on his performance. In 2000, he was awarded the BT National Investors in People Key Champion Award for the quality of his advisory services and, in 2001, he then steered a public body of 4000+ people to Cabinet Office Beacon status, one of only twenty such bodies across the UK. Amongst his professional qualifications, he is a Fellow of both the Chartered Management Institute and Institute of Leadership & Management, Member of the Institute of Consultants and Institute of Learning, an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development and a trained, PRINCE2, project manager. Steven has over 25 years operational history in security risk management and has attended the highly acclaimed Security Risk Management course at Cranfield University. These professional qualifications are backed by lengthy experience in delivering operational and resource management, corporate and emergency planning, employment practice, performance management, learning/development and security risk management. He has a track record of designing and implementing multi-million pound efficiency programmes in the public sector and providing innovative business development solutions to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He works with the Department for Employment and Learning to improve the business performance and the Leadership & Management skills of Owners, Directors and managers of SMEs.

The Leeds Library is the oldest surviving subscription library of its type in the UK and was founded in 1768. Annual membership from £66. Founded in 1768, The Leeds Library is a gem of a heritage library and the oldest surviving subscription library of its kind in the British Isles. We have a fascinating history. We’re Leeds’s oldest cultural institution—a thriving hub of creativity, ideas and inspiration and a book lover’s paradise! Amongst our founding members were eminent doctors, surgeons, clergymen, leading industrialists and businessmen, alongside members of The Royal Society. Revd Dr Joseph Priestley, our first secretary and most likely the primary driving force behind the Library’s creation, was perhaps the most famous of these men. A leading enlightenment thinker, radical preacher, and Fellow of The Royal Society, Priestley was celebrated for his experiments concerning electricity and oxygen—and the invention of carbonated water! In the beginning, the Library occupied a back room at Joseph Ogle’s bookshop on Kirkgate and he became the first librarian. When he died in 1774, his daughter, Mary, was appointed Librarian and remained so for another 37 years until her death in 1813. Over this period, the Library proved to be so successful that it outgrew this modest first home and moved further along Kirkgate to the Rotation Office. A few years later and a move to new premises was required once again to house the ever-growing collection of books. In 1808, the Library moved to a new purpose-built home on Commercial Street where we remain to this day. Built by Thomas Johnson, the town’s leading architect, the grade II* listed building is a rare surviving example of a Georgian public library.

We are the Open College of the Arts. An open access, distance learning provider of higher education courses based in Barnsley, UK. We were created by Michael Young in 1987, one of the founders of the Open University, to offer high quality arts courses as a means to transform lives, with the opportunity to develop and express creative talents under the guidance of experienced artists. An OCA qualification, be that a degree, Certificate or Diploma in Higher Education, or undergraduate credit, can be a huge achievement for many and opens the doors to new careers, or new lifestyles built around the arts. Over 2000 people study with us every year as part of a truly global community representing 67 nationalities worldwide on 13 degree programmes and one Masters. We reach people in every walk of life, with over 20% of our students having a declared disability, and many students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and with no qualifications. Our students come from every walk of life imaginable, fitting work, family, caring responsibilities and everything else alongside study and more besides. The Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ISBE) is a network for people and organisations involved in small business and entrepreneurship research, policy, practice, education, support and advice. ISBE’s members are its most valuable resource, offering vast reserves of knowledge and research. Through events and activities, ISBE aims to disseminate this research to business owners, policy makers and business support organisations where it can have genuine impact and inform change, and to share these resources with academics, researchers and educators. Through ISBE’s network and activities, academics, business owners, policy makers and those who work in business support are able to connect and form beneficial working relationships. By 1977 these ad hoc, informal meetings of the early small business and entrepreneurship researchers had become a full annual and international conference which is still running over 40 years later. The Institute is formed: Originally an annual conference hosted by a different university each year, it was not until 1989 that the researchers formally organised as the UK Enterprise Management and Research Association (UKEMRA). Three years later, in 1992, the name was changed to Institute for Small Business Affairs (ISBA). In 2004, recognising the increased focus on entrepreneurship in policy and research, the organisation became the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ISBE). Our past activities and achievements: Through the years as well as the ISBE conference, ISBE has held many regional events in the form of doctoral work shops, work shops on all aspects of entrepreneurial education and research, policy think-tanks and debates in response to government iniatives and other contemporary issues, and practical, skill building work shops for small business practitioners. ISBE has produced many publications such as books, reports, research papers and conference outcomes. In addition to this ISBE provided a network for those in the field of small business and entrepreneurship allowing collaboration, debate and sharing of valuable insight, knowledge and best practice. In this way ISBE sought to contribute to the world of enterprise by disseminating knowledge and skills, platforming the latest research, supporting entrepreneurial education and encouraging debate.
