18 years ago I was encouraged by a friend to think about what motivates me and what i value the most, and then to look into this as a starting point for new work. I was very unhappy working in a human resources firm; however the training and presentation experience has been so valuable. I realised that it was very important to me to eat right and exercise, not only for how I looked, but for health reasons; varicose veins, under active thyroid and injured neck and hips. So I embarked on a couple of years studying part time whilst still working full time for the HR company. Alongside this I started to pick up some part time gym work to gain the experience of the health and fitness industry; and although a very important step in the right direction, I soon found out that gym life was only a season for me. It was very soon that i started to put my retail management experience and my training consultation experience to the test and embarked on setting up my own health and fitness business. The gym environment gave me the : 1. experience I needed 2. exposure to taking group sessions, i.e. classes 3. time to invest in further courses and qualifications Then i started hiring church/youthcentre halls and designing my own Fitness Pilates classes, offering to take healthy eating workshops in clients homes, and then in time 1 to 1 Personal Training. Wherever I was living, I found an audience who needed, not just wanted, my classes and personal support. I took a leap of faith and over the years have met so many people, helped them along their journey of health and fitness and seen results which bring a ray of hope... a new level of energy and of course inspire them to aspire to the next level in their journey. I am now about to embark on the next step of faith.... from wherever I am be able to support people with their health and fitness goals virtually and personally. A history of the school… Marjorie Eileen Wise – a Christmas Day baby! As with lots of little girls, Marjorie Wise wanted to go to ballet lessons, and her parents, Harry & Grace decided at age 6, she could go to Leicester ballet teacher, Queenie Green and enjoy a few ballet lessons. Marjorie’s parents were unaware of the talent that their daughter had! Marjorie enjoyed her ballet lessons and took her Royal Academy of Dancing (RAD) exams one by one until by the age of 17, she had passed her Advanced Exam and had begun to achieve the relevant teaching qualifications to be able to teach RAD ballet and enter children for exams. Just before her 18th birthday, she decided to open her own school and thus Marjorie Wise School of Dancing (MWSD) was born. Harry & Grace Wise were keen to assist their daughter with this venture and moved from the family home in Aylestone to a house on Saxby Street, Leicester, because it had a dance studio in the basement. This was converted into a ballet studio with bespoke mirrors, barres and floor. Marjorie Wise became a household name in Leicester and the school thrived. Marjorie herself continued with her own ballet study and soon expanded into International Dance Teacher’s Association (IDTA) tap and theatre craft study. Marjorie travelled weekly to be taught by Sissie Smith in Nottingham and furthered her knowledge of ballet. Soon, Saxby Street was too small for the expanding school and Marjorie started hiring local halls to teach in. Her cousin, an excellent pianist, accompanied the classes on the piano and her parents dealt with the admin of running the school. In the 1960’s, a young girl called Yvonne Saunders, joined the school for her lessons, as she wanted a classical RAD ballet school for her training. Yvonne was a very talented dancer and Marjorie quickly recognised an outstanding talent in this pupil. She was not wrong, as Yvonne went on to be the lead dancer with the Royal Ballet, partnering the likes of Rudolf Nureyev and dancing solos with the Company all over the world. Yvonne continued to keep in touch with Marjorie on a regular basis.

The Pembrokeshire WI is a very active and dynamic WI Federation with 51 WI groups and over 1100 members. Our WI groups span the whole of the county's geography - from Saundersfoot, in the South, to St Dogmaels, in the North and the Preseli Hills, to the East. Wherever you live, in Pembrokeshire, there will (without doubt!) be a WI that you can join, just down the road from you! Many of our members also like to join several Wis – it just makes 'getting to know new friends' even better and, of course, means getting involved in so many and varied activities! The Pembrokeshire Federation was formed in 1921 - therefore, in 2021 we will be celebrating our 100th Anniversary. At the moment, our Federation and all of our WIs are busy planning for 'our Big Year'! In addition, in 2021, we will be hosting the NFWI Wales Conference, in April, 2021. The meetings, across our county, are all so varied – we are so lucky to have so many different groups – those that meet in the daytime, those that meet in the evening. We also have a great variety of groups with a big mix of ages as well as some that are slightly younger versus those that are slightly older. Whoever you are and whatever you like to do, you can guarantee that you will find a WI that suits you! We own our own House in the county town of Haverfordwest (WI house) which is open to members on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10am and 3pm – all our members are welcome to pop in and have a catch up and chat with a Board Of Trustee member – between those hours there is always someone there to welcome you! We use this house for meetings as well as hiring it out for the local community to use for day schools, educational course and seminars. We are fortunate to have a variety of sub-committees which organise the events both within Pembrokeshire and beyond – these include Sports & Leisure, Home Crafts, Membership & Community & Environment. We publish a monthly newsletter, which keeps WI members informed of all future events and enables groups to share information, across the county, too! Bread 41 is an organic bakery located in Dublin 2. Our bakery specialises in long fermented breads, which are made using traditional methods and just a few simple ingredients; flour, salt and water. All our breads are hand made over two days using organic flour and other wholesome ingredients including nuts, seeds, grains and dried fruit. We will supply like-minded retailers, restaurants, hotels and cafés with bread and fresh pastries daily. In September 2018 we are launched our very own bakery/eatery Bread 41, which is located next to our bakery on Pearse Street in Dublin 2. At Bread 41, customers can buy our breads, pastries and taste amazing food. We are very excited about this opportunity, given our teams acumen for putting together incredible yet simple dishes. Everyday our kitchen will be serving up fresh lunch and breakfast options using local , seasonal, organic where possible and always ethnically sourced ingredients.
