The Shop Zero Story When our founder, Sarah Maloy, went all-in on Plastic-free July in 2016, she felt completely overwhelmed! The world just wasn’t set up to help people reduce their waste. In committing to shop more consciously, Sarah embarked on an exciting new journey. She realised that if she was struggling to get bulk food and refills for her containers then other people would be too. How could she help to provide a solution? By opening her own zero-waste shop, Shop Zero (you can read about this experience in Sarah’s own words here). Sarah threw all of her research and knowledge into Shop Zero, only stocking products from ethical suppliers that she would personally use. Why do your eco-friendly shopping at Shop Zero? Our focus is on providing you with great quality sustainable goods with minimal packaging and a lower environmental impact. At Shop Zero, we know the provenance of what we sell – where our products come from and what they’re made of. We work alongside local producers and makers to bring you great quality sustainable products. To reduce packaging and food waste, we offer whole foods and store cupboard essentials in bulk and unpackaged. All ready for your own containers, in the quantities that you choose. We also host an exciting programme of ethically-focused events, talks, pop-up shops and workshops throughout the year featuring some amazing local independent businesses and individuals. And we’re here to talk with you about what you’re buying, so you can shop sustainably with confidence. We need a change in the way we consume and shop. Nature is cyclical and we need to follow her example (click here to find out more about adopting a circular economy). We’ve become disconnected from our environment. At Shop Zero, we want to support the move away from a linear approach of producing greater amounts of waste to taking more responsibility for the impact we have on our world.

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy, an energy which is all around us. Natural Healing Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui (d. 1926). Fired by a burning question, Dr Usui was inspired to develop this healing system from ancient teachings after many years of study, research and meditation. He spent the rest of his life practising and teaching Reiki. Today Reiki continues to be taught by Reiki Masters who have trained in the tradition passed down from Master to student.

Landmarks started to offer day services and post-16 education in March 1995, where the curriculum was largely practical and land-based, working in farm buildings in Creswell, Derbyshire. Since that time Landmarks has grown and developed its educational offer so that by the time of writing this welcome, Landmarks supports over 150 post-16 and day service Learners, all of whom learn a variety of essential life skills from our five sites located across the East Midlands and South Yorkshire. We have changed our curriculum from purely land and animal-based to include several vocational subjects such as; hospitality, catering, cookery, retail, administration and labouring. These additional subjects support our learners to make informed choices about the type of vocations they would like to follow. College life at Landmarks involves being taught in practical, real-life situations, whilst being supported by highly trained and experienced staff who are experts in working with learners with additional needs. It is important for me, as it is for my team, that whilst learners are with us, they focus on developing knowledge, skills and behaviour that makes a real difference to their lives. I hope from reading the case studies and outcomes featured within this website, you can see what difference that focus has made to our learners’ lives. I am extremely proud of all our learners’ achievements, either becoming more independent so that they can attend activities they enjoy or securing employment for the first time in their lives. Indeed, we are so keen to support our learners that when you leave Landmarks, should you need support to maintain employment or seek advice you can contact our dedicated ‘After College, Aftercare’ team. I do trust that you will enjoy exploring our website and getting to know us a little better. Of course, it is only by visiting Landmarks that you will truly get a feel for the place. The Bassetlaw Action Centre was established as a Manpower Services Commission project in 1983 and was transferred to Bassetlaw Community and Voluntary Service in 1989, who managed the project until it became an independent registered charity in April 1996. From 1989 it has been funded by a number of organisations including, Bassetlaw CCG, Lloyds Bank Foundation, Bassetlaw District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council as a Community Resource, Information, Training and Advice Centre for Bassetlaw.
