AUDE is run by an executive committee of university directors of estates that provides strategic oversight to the organisation. They make recommendations on several of the association aspects such as subscription fees and the annual budget as well as managing the election of office holders. Members vote at the AGM to apply or amend recommendations, and elect the officers. The executive committee meets four times a year, discussing and responding to matters presented by the fellow directors (directly and through regional chairs), and by the executive director and staff team. The committee receives the executive director’s quarterly report, which contains updates from each of the topic-based working groups. The meetings are also used to discuss and act on the organisation’s financial performance throughout the year. Furthermore, the meetings provide a useful sounding board and guide to the executive director, Jane White, and the AUDE team in determining the services provided to members and projects undertaken. The team comprises of five members of staff employed on permanent contracts: Executive Director (1.0 FTE) Projects and Engagement Manager (1.0FTE) Events Manager (0.8 FTE) Communications Officer (0.5 FTE) Events and Projects Officer (0.8 FTE) AUDE is a not-for-profit organisation and receives its core funding from member institution subscriptions and training and development activities. It is sustainable, with healthy financial reserves in line with its agreed financial model.

We hold many different events, where members and potential members can get to know each other, and become involved in all sorts of interesting activities. As a charity that focuses on education and opportunities for women, we are a group of over 8,000 women in Surrey that work together for our common goals. Each WI in Surrey is a member of the Federation and they meet at least monthly to engage in a wide range of interesting activities, including clubs, groups and events. At monthly meetings members enjoy practical workshops and lectures. However, it is important that we also have the opportunity to engage outside of our individual WIs. So as a Federation, we aim to put on events in different parts of the county so that all members have the opportunity to attend. We have a presence at agricultural shows, hold workshops and have two countywide meetings each year in Dorking. Our wide variety of events ranges from literary lunches, a day out in London either for Christmas shopping or for a walking tour with a blue badge guide, fiendish quizzes, cream teas, fashion shows, down to learning new crafts such as portrait painting or willow weaving. Everything is possible and the members are encouraged to send in their ideas for the committees to consider for future events.

I’m Matthew and I’ve been helping my students succeed at school and university since 1992, including over 13,000 hours of one-to-one tuition to over 400 students. My philosophy is: more than higher grades. I teach A level Maths and Further Maths, A level Statistics, and A level Physics. At GCSE level I have worked very successfully with students aiming for a grade 6 and above. I also help undergraduates on courses with mathematical content, such as Economics and Business Studies. My focus is on achieving high grades through understanding the material. I tailor my approach depending on individual needs and interests and I believe in making the subject as simple and enjoyable as possible. I am enthusiastic, friendly and approachable.
