Duncan Skelton Coaching

duncan skelton coaching

I coach global CXOs who serve important missions and are deeply curious about what is really possible. For 24 years as a technical leader and engineering manager I built innovative tech in small UK startups, through acquisition, to Silicon Valley giants. I’ve successfully guided individuals in expanding their leadership and helped them create high performance. Scaling your leadership, expanding your range, is difficult and uncomfortable edge-work. You need discipline, dedication and motivation to stay the course. Running my 10th and fastest marathon at 49 years old required letting go of perceived limits and underlined the importance of working with a coach who held the possibility for me when I could not. You are capable of more than you dare imagine — to explore your limits is an act of courage. There are no guarantees when you rope-up and set out in pursuit of a dream — only uncertainty amid possibility. So you want someone you can trust holding your ropes. My leadership experience, thirty years of rock climbing around the world and leading climbing expeditions mean I know how to partner people in courageous acts of exploration. I know how to coach you safely through uncertainty, paralysing fear and getting back up after a fall. In addition to 6 years building successful engineering groups at Google in London and New York I was lead facilitator on Google’s internal flagship leadership development program. I’ve worked internationally in the US, UK, Sweden, Finland and India. I’ve lived overseas and traveled extensively, and met many brilliant, inspiring people, like you, with massive potential.

Redthread

London

Delivered by leading charities tackling youth violence, Catch22 and Redthread, The Social Switch Project is switching the narrative on how social media’s relationship to youth violence is understood, tackled and solved. How the project was formed The Social Switch Project launched when Google.org was seeking a way to tackle the growing issue of antisocial and violent online behaviour, which often leads to violence offline. Where antisocial behaviour was once mostly limited to a physical audience, harmful content is now rapidly shared online, resulting in retaliation and feeding gang violence. This programme contributes to the public health approach to tackling youth violence. Utilising funding from the corporate sector, Catch22 and Redthread are able to offer these learning opportunities for London’s young people and professionals. Who is involved? Initially funded by Google.org, two of London’s leading charities Catch22 and Redthread, launched the pilot project in 2019. Catch22’s extensive research in the area and frontline experience of reducing violence, is combined with Redthread’s expertise in delivering youth violence interventions. Google.org encouraged both partners to use their knowledge to create an exemplary pilot project.  The Mayor of London’s Violence Reduction Unit is now supporting the next phase of the project to build our impact and shape its future development. The Social Switch Project has a large advisory board, with representatives from across the sector, police, and academics. We’re already working with key players, including Google, Facebook, TikTok, City Hall, the Metropolitan Police, and The Children’s Society.

Hi everyone, I am Debbie and I created and run the Elsa Support website. My motto is ‘Together we can make a difference’. One of the things I noticed very quickly when I was working in school was that there was a real lack of ELSA resources. I am a bit of a Google queen but even so it was difficult, without spending a huge amount of money on things, to find anything really suitable. I ended up writing my own planning and coming up with ideas and thought why not share them, that was the start of Elsa Support…… It is all about the BEES I love my bees and you might wonder why? Bees are: Busy, they work incredibly hard Work as a team always Social creatures and do communicate with each other Co-operate with each other for the same aim All have very different roles and divide their ultimate job between them all Create honey that feeds them, and us, they even store it for lean times Adaptable and do so when environmental factors change Bees work together for a common goal or aim, we can learn so much from them. They are the reason my very first ‘nurturing’ group was called ‘Busy Bees’. Well that and the fact I managed to buy some fabulous ‘bee cushions’! My vision for that first group was a group of children who belonged. We all know belonging boosts self-esteem. Feeling part of a community can have such an impact on children. Creating a group where children worked together as a team, who supported each other and socialised with each other. In fact, after the very first group I ran I overheard one of the very quiet and shy children organising for them all to meet up at playtime the next day. A major part of my role was helping children with social and emotional issues. It became a huge interest to me to try and break down barriers to learning. I am a big fan of group work and have written many interventions over the years which you can find on the website. I try to keep the cost of resources as low as I can because to me it is important that you do use them, but it is important to me that you can have some free resources to work with children, I know how difficult it is with school budgets. Every Friday I create something for free and share with you all. The website has grown from strength to strength and I have had many emails and messages to tell me how useful it has been to people setting out on the ELSA journey but also helpful to teachers, teaching assistants, learning mentors, counsellors and many other professionals. Please read my testimonials page and do email me if there is something you want to say about the website. Back to the Bees and community My vision of my very first ‘nurturing group’ was based on Bees and my vision includes that for ELSA’s and other professionals working with children on social and emotional issues. Mental health awareness, quite rightly, is becoming a huge thing due to so many factors. I really wanted to create community amongst all those people working for the same aims. This is to support you in your role supporting children. Some ELSA’s/adults do work alone in school and just need a bit of support, a listening ear, reassurance and some kind words. Our main group on Facebook has nearly 3000 members, who are all so supportive of each other. It is a wonderful community of like minded people. We have a mentoring section where you can be paired up with another person if you feel you need that extra bit of support. I listen to you, I get involved in discussion, I suggest resources, I suggest ideas and I create resources for you. You tell me what you want, and I try my best to create it for you. Do join us, together we can make a difference! What is ELSA? An ELSA in a school is an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant. There is a recognised ELSA training course aimed specifically at Teaching Assistants in schools. Examples of things covered on the course are social skills, emotions, bereavement, social stories and therapeutic stories, anger management, self-esteem, counselling skills such as solution focus and friendship. To find out more about this course, contact the Educational Psychologists in your LEA and ask them if they are running one, if not ask them if it is possible for the future. Also check out neighbouring LEAs, they will sometimes take people out of their area to make up numbers. The founder of ELSA, Sheila Burton, has her own website, ELSA Network site, where there is lots of information about the ELSA Role, so do also have a look on there.

Sidcup

Jason West is the founder and chief creator of English Out There. He now has almost thirty years of self-employed experience in transformational English language teaching and learning. In 1992, at the age of 25, he co-founded an English language school in the heart of London’s West End and within two and half years the school achieved British Council accreditation (which annoyed a few people!). A long-standing interest in the psychology of learning lead Jason to feel that something could be done to improve the way his students acquired English. As a result he created the English Out There (EOT) course concept, where students engage directly with fluent or native speakers at every stage of their language development. The language laboratory in EOT's case was (and still is) the streets of London and members of the public (recently we have been experimenting successfully with handheld mobile technology and Google+ community pages). A lot of people have helped to create English Out There over the years. The principal EOT lieutenants have been Georgina Moon, Maria Stamati-Knipe and Jonathan Jones whilst Tim Bowen helped edit the materials for publication. After 250,000 hours of teaching and editing English Out There course materials were born. They can be used both offline and on. The online element came out of a fascination with social media and free internet telephony such as Facebook and Skype. An interesting quirk of their design is that they will work with any and all social media platforms, even those not yet invented! The inexpensive DRM-free course materials for students and teachers recently made the EU’s top 10 formal uses of social media for language learning and can be purchased online from this website. English Out There is the only English program we know of that posts 'before and after' audio and video proof of the amazing progress of real students. It is a truly transformational English course because learners who have tried and failed to speak English comfortably for years find that it helps them to break through their personal language barriers. Using just simple file formats and free online social media, allowing teachers to earn money from the use of the content and making it available at an affordable price is important to Jason and the ethos of English Out There (a student's self-study course costs just £9.99 and can change a life because it will teach you how to learn for yourself for free going forward; a teacher's course level, also 20 lessons/60 hours can be printed and taught as much as they like commercially for just £25.00).

EVULVA is a health literacy platform used to promote education about vulvovaginal health and care at key intervention points. These stages include pre-puberty, puberty, fertility and family planning, peri-/menopause, and post-menopause. We are aiming to develop content that is customized to each user’s literacy level and to present information in a way that is culturally affirming, trans/queer-inclusive, and 100% FREE. 6/10 adults in the UK are unable to understand and act on health information Health literacy costs America an estimated 238 billion dollars annually and the economic health costs of poor health literacy in England is crudely estimated to be 4.95 billion annually. Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic/ Black and Indigenous People of Colour (BAME/BIPOC), trans/queer and other marginalized groups are disproportionately represented in these numbers, making this a human rights and public health issue. EVULVA is designed to improve health literacy and reduce these health inequalities through evidence-based research and the support of BAME/BIPOC community leaders and allied health professionals focusing on needs specific to culturally diverse groups. There are more than 5.8 million results when you type ‘vulvovaginal health’ into google. Some websites will have information that is too difficult for the reader to consume while others will underrepresent cultures, isolating people from obtaining life-saving information about their body. More than 4 in 10 adults in the UK struggle with health content. That number raises to 6 in 10 adults when numbers and statistics are added to health content. Many websites hypersexualise BAME/BIPOC groups adding another level of stress and deleteriously adding to decreased mental wellness around vulvovaginal health concern

Hull

Welcome to Priory Primary School’s website. We are a large primary school situated in the west of the City of Hull. We are part of the Thrive Co-operative Learning Trust along with 6 other primary schools and 2 secondary schools. We are a school which is committed to providing an exciting, challenging, connected curriculum which supports lifelong learning, physical and emotional well-being and encourages all our children to have high aspirations for their future. We work with the whole school community to provide a welcoming, safe and caring environment. Currently we are working hard to reestablish our usual routines in school following the disruption of the pandemic while continuing to ensure that we operate safely and follow our new risk assessments to mitigate the risk of the virus spreading in our school community. If children are unable to be at school at this time because they have tested positive for COVID, but are well enough to work, we offer remote learning through Google Classroom. This is as closely aligned to the classroom curriculum as possible. Children will be offered access to dongles to provide internet access and a device if they do not have this available at home. If a child is entitled to Free School Meals this is also available. Working in partnership with parents is crucial as together we can ensure your child feels safe, valued and happy. We are looking forward to being able to invite parents into school again when it is safe to do so and until that time we are very responsive to emails, to our admin address or the year group email addresses, and telephone calls. We welcome new children to our school. Please call the school if you would like further information.
