Ever since I can remember I have been obsessed with all animals, but in particular, dogs. I knew growing up I wanted to work with dogs. I had memorised every dog breed by the age of six and had read every dog based book I could get my hands on very early on. Growing up we had family labradors and Jack Russells as well as a German Shepherd cross and I basically set up a small animal rescue, taking in unwanted or injured rabbits and guinea pigs, helping them back to full health and rehoming them. I started working at a local groomers at the age of 14 and worked there for two years and then worked at a local boarding kennels. I helped out at training classes from the age of 16, and attended agility classes with my own dog. I went on to complete a BSc Animal Science (behaviour and welfare) and focused my dissertation on the effect of rearing environment on the behaviour of puppies. This research was published by the universities journal and was also awarded the UFAW prize for the best welfare based project. I was also awarded a first class BSc (hons). I started teaching classes 11 years ago in Cornwall, for a dog training club that I attended with my own dogs and achieved a gold level Kennel Club Good Citizens award with my Jack Russell/ Dachshund cross, Beau. I then worked for breeder full time for a year training puppies the foundations of obedience and assistance work. This helped me streamline my puppy training techniques and I trained hundreds of puppies during this period to a high standard. I therefore have a strong background of both practical and theoretical knowledge and still keep up to date with the latest CPD in the field, attending lectures from world renowned behaviourists and trainers, constantly reviewing my methods and adjusting them. ProPups was then set up in 2016 and we have built a great reputation and don't do ANY advertisement as most of our clientele comes from recommendations from our lovely customers! We really should but marketing and IT are just not my thing! Now, I absolutely love sharing my experience with clients, helping them to navigate puppyhood and adolescence as smoothly as possible. I also love actually doing the training myself (dog training is predominately teaching people how to train dogs). Therefore I offer residential training to help fast track training and assist partnerships in reaching their potential. They say the proof is in the pudding and I love getting the chance to put in some really solid foundations with dogs as they live with me and my ever-growing pack! I also foster- sometimes with Barneys Small breed rescue and sometimes I take owner relinquishments directly. The dogs I take in are almost always on their last chance due to biting people but we have a good success rate. I have to date fostered 24 dogs and currently have a foster French bulldog (that I can't see going anywhere soon!) I currently share my life with a Labrador, a Standard Poodle, Wire Fox Terrier, Pomeranian, Dalmatian, Bloodhound and a blind a deaf lurcher. There is always a foster or two in the mix because I strongly feel that people such as myself should be there to help the dogs that really need an experienced hand to give them another chance. Below are some of the dogs I have fostered over the past couple of years. Archie was taken to the vets to be euthanised by his owner that had been badly bitten when she went to removed a stick from his mouth. The vet thankfully refused and he came to me for training. He learnt to drop/ leave it in one session and is the happiest, most loving little dog you will ever meet. He won 'friendliest dog' at a fun dog show during his stay with me and I nearly didn't let him go, but he was offered a fantastic home in Cornwall with a close friend and animal physiotherapist. Bobby was also taken to the vets to be euthanised but again the vet advised that he should be given another chance. He snapped at a child on two occasions, both of which it seems could have been avoided with better management. He was the easiest foster we have had, and an absolute joy to have around. He was rehomed to an experienced collie home without children and they are totally in love.

GAINSBOROUGH

My name is Linda and I have been working full time growing and selling flowers since 2014. Prior to this I worked in the constrution industry for many years, initially in administration and marketing, followed 12 years as PA to the Chairman, through the highs and lows building roads and sewage systems! Then a move into the IT department managing the teams installating IT and telecoms on big construction sites and a lot less exciting stuff resulting in spending far too much time on Doncaster railway station. Time for a change!! Joining the fledgling organisation Flowers from the Farm (FFTF) in 2012 when members numbered around 50, led to becoming co-ordinator for the East Midlands region in 2015 and Co-Chair for a two year fixed term 2018-20. Since I joined FFTF has grown to nearly 1000 members championing local grown flowers. My business increased from selling a few bunches of flowers a week to supplying flowers and floristry for weddings, funerals and in 2020 a big expansion in selling flowers to the general public, followed by a return to farmers’ markets in 2021 where from March to September you will find The Spotted Dog at Brigg, Lincoln and Saxilby. My flowers are grown with the environment in mind. The poly tunnel is unheated, the greenhouse uses electric for only two months of the year, the flowers pesticide free and tonnes of compost are supplied from our own horses and livestock every year, supplemented by bulk green waste. Flowers are supplied wrapped in kraft paper or re-useable vases or buckets depending on volume supplied! I use primarily British flowers, either grown by myself or sourced from other growers, locally in Lincolnshire and Cornwall early/late season. On very rare occasions I will use carefully sourced imported flowers if needed for the work being undertaken although more and more customers are requesting “only British” and are happy to work with the seasons. Media mentions have included BBC Radio 4 Open Country with Helen Mark on her programme ‘Inspired by Flowers in Lincolnshire’, Radio 4 ‘Farming Today’ during British Flowers Week, Radio Newark with Girls About Town, BBC television for RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2018 when I was filmed cutting flowers to ready to transport to London for use in the Flowers from the Farm exhibit when the amazing team won a gold medal. There have also been articles in My Weekly Magazine, Flower Arranger magazine, The Gainsborough Standard, The Lincoln Business Journal and in 2020 The Daily Telegraph in an article about the flower industry during the Covid pandemic. In 2021 I was delighted to welcome Lizzie Musham from BBC Radio Lincolnshire for a field walk ahead of FFTF Flower Farmers Big Weekend and we met up again in November when she joined one of our wreath making workshops at The Cross Keys Stow and made a wreath live on air! I’m passionate about promoting natural funeral flowers suitable for green burial grounds, never use floral foam and in 2020 became an associate member of the Association of Green Funeral Directors. My wedding flowers have appeared on Love My Dress and Rock My Wedding blogs and I undertake weddings only within a 50 mile radius of my home.

Hull

Hi, I’m Lucy Branton, owner and founder of Dogholics, and for as long as I can remember I have adored animals, in particular dogs and horses. I have spent my life in training and caring for them. My first dog as an adult was a Sher Pei, at the time the vet told me I had acquired one of the most difficult breeds to train. This didn’t put me off and within a few short months, me and my Shar-Pei Louie were performing in an obedience display team with the Hull Dog Training Club, achieving gold standards in training. My next Shar-Pei became adept at agility, obedience, and rally, even running alongside a horse! Having a natural affinity with dogs and training, I soon set up a local dog training club, as a hobby, it wasn’t long before this became a well-used enterprise. I had to face it I was addicted to dogs! I knew the only way I could get my fix for my addiction was to turn it into a profession and took up dog grooming. I quickly achieved City & Guilds introduction levels locally, then taking further training in London, proving to be natural I achieved distinctions and merits, passing the Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming. I still wasn’t satisfied and started teacher training, later becoming employed at the Hull College where I originally trained. All of this has led me to want to help others, who like me love their dogs. To help dog owners and their dogs realise their potential, creating a space where dogs and their owners can come together, learn and build amazing bonds with each other. There is no love more addictive than a dog’s love and as dog owner all we ever want to do is to give them back the same love they give us. Here at Dogoholics our mission is: To help all dog owners learn how to care for their dogs in the right way giving them back the love and loyalty they so freely give to us every day of their lives!

William Edwards School

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our website and our school. William Edwards is a large, successful, harmonious and thriving mixed 11-16 comprehensive school. Pupil outcomes across the school are historically strong. However, attending William Edwards is about so much more than just GCSE outcomes. We firmly believe that your school days should be the best days of your life and that schools have a moral purpose to extend the life experiences of their pupils. That is why we boast the largest Duke of Edinburgh cohort of any school in the East of England and are one of only a very small number of secondary schools nationally to hold both the Artsmark Platinum Award and the Youth Sports Trust Gold Award for our work in these diverse fields. We were delighted that our last inspection report noted that “pupils who spoke to inspectors were effusive about their experience in school” and that “the breadth of curriculum opportunities available at the school is a real ‘gem’ in the school’s offer to its pupils”. The school is a proud founding member of the South West Essex Community Education Trust which runs three secondary schools and three primary schools across Thurrock and the London Borough of Havering. We were delighted that our last Ofsted inspection captured our considerable strengths in teaching, pastoral care, behaviour, pupil support and curriculum. We are pleased that these ‘cornerstones’ of high quality education remain strong at the school.

We all know science application in sports has advanced massively over the last decade, yet bodybuilding seems reluctant to catch on to the latest advancements. Examining the market it seems to be the same old information passed from trainer to client since the 70’s. Anything new seems to be dismissed without a second thought whilst a trainer’s body is referenced as knowledge not taken into account genetics or pharmaceutical enhancement. The opposite can also be true with too many arm chair scientists blindly following a study but not adjusting it to suit the individual’s needs. So with a gap in the market I have decided to combine practical experience with the latest in scientific research and using specificity for the individual I keep what produces the most efficient results. This style of coaching allows people to get to the very best result efficiently with less fatigue in less time thus saving money. Raag Coaching

We are passionate about wellbeing and holistic learning. Our coaching helps people excel academically and to cultivate a growth MINDSET and growth HEARTSET. We believe having this balance of the head (rational intelligence) and heart (emotional intelligence), together with the gut (physical intelligence) as the keystone, is the secret to unlocking your genius and resiliency. We have supported our children with a holistic approach to education, which we call compassionate based learning. This experiential learning has seen our children develop from building blocks to scholarship and bursaries at an independent school and securing offers to read at Oxbridge. Along this journey we have learnt a lot that we thought would help other parents and their children. We have often been asked for help and advice and we’d share the best of what we learnt, and we would often be told we should coach for a living. So, that’s what we did: we left our pharmacy and IT careers, and after qualifying from gold star training providers, undertaking hours of self-study to compliment the face to face training, and gaining the requisite hours for accreditation by coaching pro-bono we have developed our own unique coaching system to help children bring out the genius within themselves. Accelerated learning, exam success, grammar/independent school applications, university/Oxbridge applications and a personal brand portfolio are areas we specialise in, as well as the holistic element of learning: resilience and the emotions of beliefs and behaviours.
