Mark has always been fascinated by pottery - one of mans’ oldest skills – after studying he joined a local pottery in Poole and trained as a production thrower. He learned all about working with clay, and became proficient in techniques such as plate making, casting (making items with liquid clay), fettling, glazing, spraying, and firing a kiln. After 10 years he started out on his own and his TRADPOTS STUDIO was born. At first he made his pots at home, selling them at Craft Fairs, but as the business grew he moved to his current premises at the Courtyard Craft Centre in Lytchett Minster.

Rochester Square Rochester Square is a big garden space in Camden. It has been abandoned for more than one decade and is currently on the process of being brought back to use. In the meantime, we have set up a ceramic studio. We currently have three electric kilns, wheels, glazing rooms and we have gathered a community of over 20 artists who come here to mature their practice in an independent, restful environment. We welcome ideas for innovative art-based projects, events and workshops to be held in our facilities and garden, especially those that involve collaboration with our diverse, local community.

My close relationship with nature has changed little since my childhood. At an early age my favourite pastime was playing in a muddy stream, gathering up the clay deposits and sculpting them into organic forms. I could always be found making, sculpting and drawing. This led to me developing my studies in the art field going on to gain a degree in Three Dimensional Design specialising in Ceramics. I continued to gain a Post Graduate in Education and I have taught art and ceramics in schools and colleges for the last 25 years. I opened Joy Gibbs Price Ceramics in Mattersey in 2016 and The Pottery in 2019 where I produced my own ceramics and lead pottery classes throughout the week. From March 1st 2022 The Pottery is changing to The Potting Shed a purpose built studio in a rural landscape with a small gallery area, workshop and teaching space where we run a vast array of workshops throughout the year. I usually can be found teaching, throwing on the wheel or busy glazing my own work.

Studio Pottery London is a light-filled and spacious workshop for all who are attracted to making with clay, from absolute beginners to more experienced potters. We are uniquely located in central London in the heart of Victoria. A place of calm and community, our carefully curated space provides a perfect environment for city-dwellers to come together to learn and create. Our classroom of 12 wheels ensuring intimate classes. Our members area is carefully designed to give the members premium space. Our resident potter welcomes members and students into his private studio for one-to-one throwing and mentoring sessions. Together, with the teaching team and technician, we provide excellent support for the studio community. Curated window and vitrine displays of historic and contemporary ceramics inspire our makers and are for sale to visitors. The community can socialise in the central area with its library, kitchenette and facilities. This space is also for talks and workshops. In the rear of the studio is the kiln and glazing room, monitored by our in-house technician.

We are open daily 10am to 5pm, we don’t take bookings, just pop in. We are able to cater for larger groups and regularly work with social groups, charities, clubs and schools offering bespoke sessions as required and host birthday parties for children. Our aim is to make your visit to us as enjoyable as possible and as such we offer a friendly welcome whether you are on your own or with friends and family. We are on hand if guidance or inspiration is needed and if you are more advanced in pottery glazing, we have more specialised resources available too.
