Ruth Mullan I am a stained glass artist working in Sussex. Having graduated from Eastbourne College of Art and Design with a Society of Industrial Artists and Designers (S.I.A.D.) Diploma in Graphic Design. I worked as freelance designer after which I undertook training in stained glass design under the professional guidance of experienced glass maker Keith Nickels. Transferring my skills to stained glass I readily enjoy the challenge of designing and being able to visually interpret a client's brief; by concentrating on the use of colour, light and texture of the glass to enhance the design. I work mainly in leaded glass on commission based installations for windows and doors and hanging pieces. I also work with copper foil usually on smaller projects. I enjoy working with fused glass and the unpredictability of the result unlike the constraints of leaded work.

I first took up silk painting at the 2001 Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace, when the Fabric Colour Workshop were doing taster sessions. I went with curiosity, and came home with a large frame, some silk, a brush and a box of little bottles of paint! Since then, I have completed my City and Guilds qualification in creative textiles (silk painting), and the "Access to Art & Design" Diploma at the University for Creative Arts in Farnham. I enjoy teaching silk painting and helping each student to achieve their potential. I have written tutorials on aspects of silk painting for Crafts Beautiful Magazine and Creative Crafting Magazine, and contributed three projects to "Craft", which was published by Dorling Kindersley. I appeared (briefly!) on Paul Martin's Handmade Revolution (BBC2), and was interviewed by the Victoria & Albert Museum as part of a project on traditional crafts. I have run silk painting workshops for many local organisations including Watts Gallery, The Lightbox, The West End Centre in Aldershot, Amberley Museum, Woking College, NADFAS, The Embroiderers' Guild, the Guild of Weavers Spinners & Dyers, and the WI. I have also run introductory evening workshops for a number of local businesses, and many private parties. I have also been working in fused glass and ceramics since 2009, and have my own home workshop. I have been on a number of courses at Glasszoo, UCA Farnham, Warm Glass and The Glass Hub, and have also attended workshops at the International Festival of Glass. I have been featured in the Glass Beadmakers UK Magazine and Journal. I am a member of the Guild of Silk Painters. I set up their Surrey Branch in 2005. I have also spent time on the Guild of Silk Painters Executive Committee as their Vice Chairman and, more recently, as their Publicity Officer. My silk painting courses are also listed on craftcourses.com. I produce a range of hand made accessories and homewares from hand painted silk and fused glass, suitable for all occasions. Maureen Crosbie started Gallus Glass in 1999. She is a graduate of Glasgow school of art, originally studied Drawing and Painting but now works almost exclusively in glass. “I am influenced by history of Scotland, it's dominating natural history and landscapes, and by the tradition of historical stained glass work. I translating these into my own contemporary style. I have also recently become interested in the potential of painted and fused glass with the inclusion of found objects. I love the concept of freezing a moment in time, holding that thought and capturing the evidence of existence.” Maureen makes large stained glass windows on commission for private and public clients, but also sells smaller free hanging pieces priced to suit all pockets. "The glass has a huge range of possibilities of colour, intensity and texture and this can often dictate the design.” Maureen has recently made Gallus Glass her main focus. Having given up her art teachers job her daily commute is to her bespoke studio. "Making magic at the bottom of the garden."

Wendy has worked with ceramics for over 25years. She loves experimenting with different techniques of firing, especially Horse hair Raku. She also likes to explore different forms and makes both ornamental and utility ware. She has been working with kiln fused glass since 2003. She likes to push the boundaries of what can be achieved producing unique pieces of both decorative and useful items. These could be dishes in a wide variety of sizes and shapes, to wall hangers, making many commission pieces. Philip started woodturning full time in 1986 and attended craft fairs for more then 12 years. After a break he started turning again and moved into a craft unit in Hutton-le-Hole, in 2006 with his wife Wendy, a Glass and Ceramics artist. He was accepted onto the Register of Professional Turners in 2006, this was a very proud moment for him, and showed he had reached a very high standard. Over 60 articles published in GMC Woodturning Magazine Philip likes to work with native timber, sourced from a local timber yard and from tree surgeons; this allows him to choose the way it’s converted to obtain the best figuring. Philip work ranges from utility ware to works of art. He produces small to large items which he sells at the shop. along with his workshop.

In 2016, I began offering workshops in my studio, located just outside of Coggeshall and a few miles from Colchester. The converted barn provides a creative and supportive hub where I teach groups of up to twelve. Many of my structured textile workshops are taught across one or two days, but I do provide longer, design oriented textile courses and I mentor several groups on an ongoing basis. As my background is in creative textiles all the workshops I offer both in the studio and as a visiting tutor involve free motion embroidery with a design approach. More recently I have begun to take on other textile tutors and I now can offer a much larger range of textile courses including dressmaking, pattern cutting, felting, modern patchwork & Quilting as well as hand embroidery and decorative textiles. As well as textiles I have expanded the workshop itinerary and now offer illustration, lino printing, fused glass and silver clay jewellery on a regular basis with local, fabulous tutors. I hope that regardless of what experience level you have, you will still find something to suit you. So whether you are a beginner or more advanced in your chosen craft, take a look at the full range of workshops available. If you are unsure as to whether you will be able fully participate in a class, then simply get in touch and I would be happy to advise on what is best for you to do. While the majority of the workshops available through this site are based at my studio, I do travel and teach regularly in other local venues and I am happy to go further a field. This allows me to reach more students and collaborate with others, which is something I love to do. I offer a range of structured one and two day workshops to beginners through to more experienced in machine embroidery.
