We run the orchard partly as a volunteer project, and partly as a service activity for a variety of specific groups, including woodland play activities for chidren, Forest School for All Ages with adults, particularly those with mental health, wellbeing, or recovery interests. Some of those activities provide bits of income. Sessions are either by arrangement or open to all. There are set work sessions open to all on the first and third Sunday of each month, and a combination of drop-in and bespoke woodland play sessions most Wednesdays.

My personal philosophy of education is rooted in experiential learning. As a keen naturalist, walker and ultra runner I can be found most weekends following a road less travelled in Snowdonia, the Peak District or Cumbria. I have also undertaken extensive Bushcraft, Survival and Wilderness living training (see My CPD section for full details). The Forest of Avon is one of England's Community Forests which were established many years ago with the aim of connecting people with trees locally. The Forest of Avon is not a single 'forest' but the combination of the many trees and woodlands across the West of England, formerly Avon - the four counties of Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. So far, well over a million trees have been planted in the Forest of Avon and many woodlands and access networks have been improved and maintained. You may see 'Forest of Avon' signs on your local walks showing where we have supported landowners to improve or plant new woodland and where they support public access for our lovely walks. As part of a network of community forests we can source funding such as through our current Trees for Climate project, Defra funded through England's Community Forests. We want to enable as many people as possible to access and enjoy the benefits of our trees and community woodlands.

Our Forest Kindergarten for children aged between 3-6 years old is Brighton & Hove's first exclusively outdoors setting. Children at Bee in the Woods play, explore and learn in a woodland environment, without walls - whatever the weather. Our experienced staff facilitate development by listening and learning through our children's play. We also believe in the power of nature for bringing families and communities together. We work with families and organisations within our community to reduce loneliness and boost happiness and health through time together in nature. Why We Do It In an age where screen-time has replaced play time, we want to give local children the opportunity to learn through open-ended adventurous play outdoors. Forest School gives children the chance build on resilience and self esteem through magical and memorable experiences. We celebrate children's innate curiosity and creativity through joyful early learning experiences and help them grow into healthy, happy, confident, resilient little learners - for life!

Welcome to Wyre Forest School. We are a broad spectrum special needs school for children aged 3 to 19. We also have Russell House, a 16-bed weekly residential unit. We have only been in our building since April 2015. Previous to this the school was on two sites following the Wyre Forest restructuring in 2011 (Bewdley Road site, formerly Blakebrook, and Comberton Road site, formerly Stourminster). We share our campus with St John's Church of England School and Baxter College. Our Early Years Hub includes a Nursery Assessment Class, which can take up to 25 children. We have a state-of-the-art science lab housed within Baxter College. We also have a vocational hub and a Sixth Form which prepares children for life after school. Offsite we run the award-winning Blossom Tree Café in Springfield Park. Our vision is to truly ensure that we meet the individual needs of all children at WFS and prepare them for adulthood. At our school We Foster Success by providing a safe, happy environment in which all pupils can develop and achieve. We work tirelessly to meet the needs of all the children, so they develop and progress academically, socially, emotionally and physically. Our values of enthusiasm, resilience, honesty, teamwork and trust shine out from all that we do. We have an exciting curriculum which is broad and balanced and make the use of our specialist facilities; including soft play, dark room, sensory rooms, vocational hub, hydropool, gym and riding for the disabled. We are also a communication specialist school and use sign-a-long, PECS and communication passports. We are passionate about the benefits of outdoor education from Forest Schools and The John Muir Award, to outdoor pursuits, working the land and exploring the Wyre Forest. The birds are chirping, the gentle wind rolls across the hills while wellington boots search for puddles. The woodland has been checked and the equipment is ready to be taken with us, our focus in on the wellbeing, physical and emotional, of each person within our community. Gathering together, we check in on how each person is feeling and what they wish to explore during their time in nature. We introduce new ideas and invite them to engage our help when they wish to. The woodland space is a blank canvas, full of textures and materials to enrich the senses and stimulate the learning journeys that we will all undertake. As leaders we have both an idea for the direction of the day should learners need us to provide this for them, but also understand the importance of encouraging them to decide their own direction. During this time of exploration and discovery, our role as a leader is to provide the nurturing they need whilst also encouraging them to stay with challenge and to make sense of the experiences they have. Through review and reflection their voices are heard, and their emotions are recognised.
