Dorin Park is a specialist all-age school for children and young people with physical difficulties, complex moderate learning difficulties, complex medical needs and general complex needs. Children can be admitted to us at any stage but most of our entrants arrive in Reception or Year 7 and are usually transferring to us from mainstream early years settings or mainstream primary schools. Our learning experience is designed to meets the needs of our students by marrying excellent personal development opportunities with an appropriate life skills curriculum and a relevant academic curriculum. Developing communication is a priority throughout the school. All our students in Seniors are given a Flight Path for their future development which is reviewed regularly as they move through the school to ensure they achieve their potential in all areas. Dorin Park is a school with a real sense of community – we really are a school family here. We pride ourselves on being a welcoming school with a strong emphasis on pastoral care alongside a rigorous academic education tailored to the needs of the individual. The Eden Workshop is part of Right2Work and runs Craft Workshops & courses at The Appleby Hub and will travel! The Appleby Hub is run by Right2Work CIC, http://www.right2work.org.uk which is part of The Oaklea Trust http://www.oakleatrust.co.uk which strive to strengthen local communities – an example of their work being Project Edenside just round the corner from The Hub. The Hub is a former church and is now a thriving community centre with a busy café with a seed swap station, craft shop, second hand bookshop and a jigsaw library. Upstairs there are studios rented by artists and rooms for hire. The bustling market town of Appleby, boasts a vibrant high street full of independent shops and cafes, there’s good road links – we are just off A66 and 20mins from M6 jct 40. Along with the published list of Workshops that you can book onto we also offer private, bespoke ones just for you such as girly catch ups, team building, birthday/crafty hen parties, team building/bonding – these can be arranged at a time to suit and with food to suit too – anything from a crafty couple of hours get together with friends (starting from £25) to a day’s bag making or two day basket weaving or upholstery workshop. Refreshments & a tasty lunch cooked in our onsite wholefood café are included on the day courses (allergies & special dietary requirements catered for – please advise on booking) as are some, if not most of the materials. There is plenty of parking in the pay & display carpark adjacent to The Hub, the art studio & Bennett Room are accessed by a flight of stairs so please ask if you require any assistance, there is also a lift.

loreburn archers (indoors)

We have always been known for being a fun and approachable club. Currently we have around 40 members shooting all styles of bows. The club primarily consist of recurve and compound archers. There are still the odd few who shoot longbow, bare bow and more traditional styles. Some club members also practice other types of archery such as Clout, Flight and Field but unfortunately the club does not have the facilities to cater for these. Over the years the club has produced several top archers. Some of our juniors shot on the Scottish squad and team, representing Scotland all over Britain. We have Scottish record holders, British record holders, even a British Under 15 Junior Boy champion. The seniors have represented the club over the years with Scottish, British and even Olympic champions. Loreburn Archers certainly does have a good pedigree behind it and it is something we are extremely proud of. The club practises all year round. Our indoor season runs from September through to March. We currently shoot at St Joseph’s College Sports Hall. The outdoor season runs from March to September. Through the summer we practise outdoors at the Crichton Playing Field, when it is not raining or too windy to shoot. Directions can be found on our contact page. If you are thinking about taking up the sport, we run a beginners’ course once a year. Completing the beginners’ course is the only way for a novice to join the club. However if you have been a full shooting member of a club in the past, please get in touch with us to inquire about joining. Archery is a sport that is open, to all irrespective of ability. We encourage anyone and everyone to come along and have a shot, the club’s minimum age limit is set at 12 years old. Each November the clubs runs an open indoor competition attracting up to 80 archers from all over Britain. Loreburn Archers also run a number of Come and Try sessions at local Gala days during the summer season which introduces archery to a wider audience as well as raising funds for the club.
