My name is Joe Turnbull and I have been angling since I was about 13. I first found out about such an amazing beautiful pastime when my uncle took me to the local river, armed with a small box of maggots and little bag of brown bread crumb to use as ground bait. After that first encounter catching some good roach, I was simply hooked and I had found something that I was quite good at. From that first experience I went on to enter a few matches, however, I’ve never really been competitive, so from there on I generally enjoyed my pleasure fishing for all species, which has seen me venturing all around the country angling at many different venues. After some years of allround specimen angling, my one true love fell for carp angling, along with the wonder and amazement that it holds. fishing-tv Why Bait?…Archie Braddock’s supplied a mix of herbs and spices, along with Richworth and Rod Hutchinson that had a range of ‘off the shelf’ boilies and flavourings. I was intrigued, as many people still are, by being able to mix all sorts of concoctions and seeing if I could get a fish to feed on it. After years of playing with baits and ingredients, a part of a life long dream became a reality as I was given a monthly feature in the biggest and longest running carp magazine, Carpworld and sister magazine, Crafty Carper. Successful angling is all about consistency. Caroline Waldegrave is the founding Principal, former Managing Director and co-owner of Leiths School of Food and Wine, one of the most prestigious and respected cookery schools in the country. After 33 years’ involvement, Caroline retired and became a non-executive director on the board of Leith’s in 2009. She was also Chairman of the Guild of Food Writers for several years, and a former member of the Health Education Authority. Caroline was awarded an OBE in 2000 for services to the UK catering industry. Her passion and enthusiasm for teaching and love of food have continued to be the fundamental drivers of Caroline’s work. Since stepping back from day-to-day involvement in Leith’s School, Caroline has focused on imparting her wealth of cookery knowledge at Dudwell School, on the site of the beautiful Waldegrave family home, Dudwell Field Farm. In addition, she owns the Barley Mow pub in London's Marylebone with three of her four children, as well as being a director of the family organic dairy farm. Caroline is also in demand for media appearances, and has been seen on various TV and radio programmes, including Chef School, Masterchef and Tricks of the Trade. In what spare time she does have, Caroline enjoys playing bridge and tennis, and attending the theatre. Publishing Caroline is the author or co-author of a range of cookery books. These include the Leith’s Cookery Bible, Cookery Course and Cookery School books (co-written with Prue Leith), Leith’s Easy Dinner Parties (co-written with Puff Fairclough and Janey Orr), Leith’s Fish Bible (co-written with CJ Jackson), The Healthy Gourmet, and the Low Fat Gourmet. Many of the recipes you will cook on the Dudwell courses will be taken from the Leith’s Bible, but you will also benefit from a copy of the Dudwell cookery book which you will take home at the end of the course, or which is available to buy separately here.

Llanthony Secunda Priory in Gloucester is the remains of a once large and important Augustinian Priory which was founded outside the city walls in 1136. It is a scheduled monument with listed buildings that has played an important part in Gloucester’s history for over 900 years. Our Re-formation Project is bringing Llanthony back to life. The two main buildings dating from the 15th century have been restored and conserved and are now back in daily use. The grounds have been landscaped with new paths, benches, trees and planting and will include an example of a medieval courtyard garden. Special events and projects over the next few years will establish Llanthony Secunda Priory as a heritage attraction and cultural venue. The Priory, one of several religious foundations in Gloucester, existed for 400 years. It owned properties and land both in Gloucester and the surrounding counties – as far afield as Ireland – churches, farms, fish weirs, quarries and manor houses. Come in and visit where canons worked and lived; where royal visitors such as Henry VII came to stay. Imagine how everything changed after the Dissolution of the Monasteries – the buildings and church taken down or used as farms and orchards; how the Civil War affected the Priory and when the industrial revolution took place, the canal was built and it was surrounded by railway lines and yards.
