Following this course students will be able to
Understand the role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider.
Be able to administer first aid to an infant and a child with head, neck or back injury.
Assess an emergency situation safely.
Understand how to administer first aid to an infant with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose.
Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally.
Understand how to administer emergency first aid to an infant and a child with an acute medical condition or sudden illness.
Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally.
Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child who is experiencing the effects of extreme heat and cold.

Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding.

Who should attend?
This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide first aid to children (including babies) when dealing with:
An emergency situation.

Students must be at least 16 years old on the first day of training.





Assessment and Certifications

St Joseph’s School, Wetherby (Early Years class) Our Nursery class love to get involved in whole-school curriculum enrichment activities but First Aid for 3-4 year olds? One afternoon, we were enjoying a day out in the sunshine and had stopped to feed our daughter of 7 months, she’s just started solid food and we’d been giving her sliced banana to chew on. On this particular day, she inhaled a small piece and began to choke. I quickly remembered Martin’s words, put her in the proper hold, bottom in the air and one forceful strike between her shoulder blades dislodged the banana and although she was shocked, she was able to breathe again and I can’t tell you how relieved we felt! It may have only been 10 seconds in which she couldn’t breathe but it was terrifying.
