hunique dance & the hungarian culture and heritage society (hc&hs)

Hungarian Culture and Heritage Society was established on 3rd of May, 2011 (Registered Charity Number: 1152984). Our aim is to support and preserve the Hungarian culture and heritage, furthermore promote the cultural heritage for the benefit of the Hungarian and European public. In line with our constitution we also support Hungarian communities in the UK to integrate and contribute to the wider society. HC&HS OBJECTS To advance Hungarian arts (and crafts), Hungarian culture and heritage for the public benefit in particular but not exclusively in London by: (a) undertaking annual programmes of traditional music and dance; (b) preserving Hungarian historical traditions through running and supporting festivals and country/folk dancing; (c) promoting and supporting artists, craftsmen and craftsmanship (including beading, embroidery and carving); and by (d) providing grants, items and services to individuals in need of assistance which would allow them to further the purposes of this association.

International Fitness Presenter Delvin Clarke and his 26 year old daughter Olivia are the high energy duo behind VIBE Concepts. Keeping it in the family the father and daughter fitness instructors have created VIBE Concepts - a group of freestyle, feel good, high energy fitness classes to great music. Delvin and daughter Olivia are regular contributors on TV talking about fitness and well-being. VIBE is all about the music, interaction and fun to keep everyone fit both physically and mentally. Delvin travels the world teaching classes combining over 20 years of experience in the fitness industry with his energy and charisma

Stoke Kung Fu and Kickboxing was established 40 years ago under the guidance of Henry Chung. He taught Lau Gar Kung Fu, which was derived from the form of Martial Arts practised at the temples situated in West China. The style subsequently became very popular in Great Britain. He was closely followed by George Shore who was the Chief Instructor until he passed the mantle onto Bob Parkinson who is the present day Chief Instructor. George Shore George Shore was a phenomenal martial artist who built a reputation for the Stoke Club. He was a dedicated and fearless individual who expected the highest standard from all of his students. He produced many world champions and world class instructors and had an elite fighting team who dominated Great Britain throughout the 80’s and 90’s. Bob Parkinson -‘Piston Legs’ When George Shore retired from Stoke he knew that the club would continue to thrive and that the highest standards would be maintained under the leadership of Bob Parkinson. Bob brings out the very best in his students; skilfully combining ultimate respect for the ethos of martial arts, within a very friendly and welcoming, all-inclusive club. His passion, dedication and ability continues to inspire and encourage students to reach their full potential. The club has been built on its reputation of having instructors who have all been coached and developed by the Chief Instructor. All are black sash in Kung Fu and black belt in Kickboxing and are of an exceptional standard.

ABOUT US Wuntanara – meaning ‘we are together’ in the Soussou language from Guinea Conakry – is a collective of outstanding artists from West Africa and dedicated African drumming and dance students from across Europe. Master Drummer Souleymane Compo is the Founder and Artistic Director Wuntanara, and CEO of Wuntanara Ltd. Souleymane was born into the proud musical tradition in Guinea. As a young man he travelled to The Gambia, where he continued his training in the traditional arts with Guinean masters, in the famous Fatala Drum and Dance School. He soon began teaching African drumming and dance to students from all over the world. An accomplished dancer, he also became choreographer and lead dancer for the Fatala Ballet troupe. Souleymane moved from Africa to London in 2004. Since then he has been teaching and performing in schools, weekly classes, festivals and private events across the UK. He combines warmth and patience with great musical knowledge and skill. He is an inspiring teacher, as well as an accomplished performer. Wuntanara's lead dancer is Salif Camara Salif belongs to a family of Guinean artists, and began dancing at a young age. An exhilarating dancer, Salif has performed in some of the most acclaimed Guinean ballet troupes and teaches Guinean dance to student across Europe as well as in Guinea. africa writes - exeter

Africa Writes festival is a biennial celebration of contemporary literature from Africa and the diaspora, brought to you by the Royal African Society and presented in partnership with the British Library. The tenth edition of the festival introduces brand new regional partnerships that sees the festival co-curate satellite events in Leeds, Swindon and Birmingham. We will start on Saturday 5th March 2022 at Leeds Literary Festival in partnership with British Library Bath Spa, Geraldine Connor Foundation and Leeds University Centre for African Studies. The programme has been curated by Khadijah Ibrahiim with additional sponsorship from Flutterwave. Future dates will be announced on our Africa Writes 2022 festival page. Launched in 2012, Africa Writes showcases established and emerging talent from the African continent and its diaspora in what is now the UK’s biggest celebration of contemporary African writing taking place over an exciting summer weekend. The festival features book launches, readings, author appearances, panel discussions, family workshops, and other activities. Our previous headline speakers have been Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Ngugi wa Thiong’o with son Mukoma wa Ngugi, Wole Soyinka, Ama Ata Aidoo, Ben Okri, Nawal El Saadawi, Alain Mabanckou, Chigozie Obioma, Mona Elthahawy and Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah.

Hosted by Gabby Logan and Sanchez Payne, we’re putting on an epic showcase of live performance featuring Corinne Bailey Rae, Simon Armitage and LYR, The Orchestra and Chorus of Opera North, Graft, Inder Goldfinger, Testament, Jamie Jones-Buchanan, Denmarc Creary and many more still to be announced. Everyone is invited. You just need to get creative to get your ticket. Because for our Year of Culture we’re waking the artist in all of us.
