Oscott Academy is a registered independent school that supports the learning of students in Key Stage 4 (Year 10 and 11). Oscott Academy prides itself on its pastoral approach, fostering an environment where students can develop and be part of the Oscott Academy family. We support students with diagnoses of ASD, ADHD, ADD and anxiety, in addition to those who display symptoms of SEMH. We also support vulnerable students who have struggled to learn in a mainstream setting. The school has a high level of student support with a ration of 5:1 (student to staff ratio). Oscott Academy was opened in 2014 by Stewart Dance, an experienced practitioner with over a decades experience in educational settings. My name is Ruth, the owner of Bubble and Squeak. My professional background is in primary teaching, which I did for 15 years, before leaving in 2021 to concentrate on my business. I am also a mum of three small children. Having a family meant a change of lifestyle was needed and I wanted to start doing something I’m passionate about – cooking! I gained my level 2 in food safety and hygiene and a diploma in child nutrition and set about creating Bubble and Squeak. My own children love cooking and we can often be found in the kitchen baking yummy treats to eat. One of my children is a very picky eater so I try to be creative in the things we cook and try to involve him in the creative process. There are so many benefits to being in the kitchen; children can learn so many skills that they will carry into adulthood. At Bubble and Squeak, our mission is to teach children a range of kitchen skills whilst they learn about nutrition and making healthy choices. These skills include measuring ingredients, knife safety and hygiene, to name a few. These activities can also help develop their fine motor skills and language skills. In addition to this, children will be introduced to foods they might not have tried before. We do this in a fun and safe environment and at the end of each session they will take away something delicious to try. *We can offer recipes that are gluten or dairy free if required and all of our recipes are nut free

Ganesh learned to drive at the age of 19, passing his driving test on his first attempt. He distinctly remembers a compliment from his assessor that he was one of the safest drivers that he had seen. During his time in Germany, Ganesh also attained a European Driving License and garnered many praises for his driving talent from his instructor. In his early 20s, Ganesh steered his career trajectory towards corporate opportunities and worked his way up to several managerial positions. But one of Ganesh's keen interests has always been to establish his own business. Consequently, after establishing his family life, he channelled his passion for driving and teaching into his career and commenced his endeavour to become a driving instructor. At the beginning of his journey, Ganesh taught at a local driving school for five years, where he developed his expertise and expanded his clientele. The next phase of Ganesh's journey was to establish AAA STAR Driving School, with the support of his spouse and three children (the namesake of the company).

After a career of teaching music in Scottish schools, I took up pottery at night classes and became hooked enough to complete a B.A . Hons in Ceramics at the iconic Glasgow School of Art. It was here that I made many connections with wonderful potters the world over, and received a brilliant education in this magical material. I aim to show my delight in ceramic form , texture and colour with great attention to detail and concern for the practical use of functional pieces. I also love to experiment with the expressive and imaginative possibilities of glaze in purely abstract work. From 2007 -2019 my husband and I lived in Stromness, in the Northern Isles of Orkney. Here we were drawn by an amazing landscape, constant reminders of its Neolithic past, and by its unique cultural and natural heritage. Grounded in agriculture and fishery, submitting to the limitations of island life and the often very challenging weather, there is a discipline in living here which corresponds to working with clay- one cannot control everything but must work with what is given. In 2019 we moved south to the Scottish Borders to be closer to family. From being surrounded by sea, we are now in the most landlocked area of Scotland and surrounded by trees!
