Lancaster Aikido Club is a not-for-profit martial arts club which has been teaching martial arts in Lancaster since 1976. We train in a friendly atmosphere, focusing on daily practice of Aikido as a pragmatic and functional martial art for self-defence, while endeavouring never to lose sight of its ultimate aim: the cultivation of human beings capable of sharing a peaceful world. Aikido is just as applicable to our daily lives, in our relationships with our family, communication with friends and work colleagues, and most importantly our relation with ourselves, as it is to a situation requiring self-defence. Training will develop you physically and mentally, but neither great strength nor high levels of fitness are required to begin. Wellbeing is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle, and our goal is to assist in your development; providing encouragement, education, and emotional support throughout the collaborative learning process. Aikido 'toughens the body and polishes the spirit'. Aikido is available to all ages and many lifetime practitioners continue to train into their 70s or 80s. We have senior practitioners training regularly at Lancaster who did not begin training until their 40s. We are affiliated with the Aikikai Hombu Dojo (Japan) and a network of Dojos in Europe (Traditional Aikido Europe) through Lewis Bernaldo de Quiros (6th Dan) who serves as Technical Director and Examiner granting Aikikai dan ranks according to Hombu regulations.

Life and experience taught me that it is never too late to take a leap of faith, change direction, retrain and really start enjoying what you do for a living. After starting full time work at the tender age of 16 and after many years of working in finance, support roles and for large organisations, although this provided me with an excellent foundation in customer services and organisational skills, I decided to eventually take the brave step of retraining whilst on maternity leave, to become a self-employed Lash Artist and Educator and I’ve never looked back. Juggling college life as a mature student whilst raising two small children wasn’t easy to begin with, but with support and patience it has given me the freedom to run my own diary, choose my working patterns and still be there for my family and children. There have been amazing times, some tears and frustrations, but it has given me a sense of achievement and determination to inspire others on their career path, be that part time, as a side-line or full-time career choice. Students come to me from all ages and varied career paths, often with little or no experience and I welcome every single one with enthusiasm, a passion to inspire, encourage and support them on their journey from complete beginner to expert lash and brow artist. Adam Cresswell - The Lawyer He / Him Before The Lawyer and The Nurse met, Adam was studying law after graduating from the University of Liverpool at the College of Law of England and Wales’s Birmingham campus - then following up with the Bar Vocational Course at the same institution in London. Adam then went to work for the Crown (CPS) in Worcester before returning to civil law within a family firm in Corby, where he was employed as Head of Civil Litigation, and later became a Director and shareholder in the firm. He remained at the firm for over a decade before leaving to establish The Lawyer & the Nurse. Adam has always had a lot to say! His strengths lie in his knowledge of health and social care law and regulations, which is underpinned by his strong advocacy skills. The part of his work that he most enjoys is assisting families with applications before NHS England’s Independent Review Panels, or indeed any tribunal setting where there is an argument to be made out for what is right as opposed to what the Government wants to pay. Never try to call Adam on a Sunday morning as he religiously listens to The Archers omnibus - and despite Ambridge being a fictional village, he insists that he will retire there some day. Adam will also say that he likes to collect antiques, though his children (18 and 21) regard these the same way they do him - 'dusty and tacky'.

It is the only UK charity representing the needs of over half a million young siblings and over one and a half million adult siblings. Sibs is the only UK charity for children and adults who are growing up with or have grown up with a disabled brother or sister. We provide information, support and training on sibling issues for adult siblings, young siblings, parents and professionals. Young siblings Children and young people growing up with a disabled brother or sister often get less attention from parents and have more worries and responsibilities than their peers. Many young siblings experience daily challenges in their lives such as public prejudice and finding it hard to get schoolwork done. They also need recognition for the positive aspects of their family lives, such as learning new skills and being supportive of their brothers’ and sisters’ needs. Direct support for young siblings We run www.sibs.org.uk – an online information service for children and young people aged 7-17, who have a brother or sister who is disabled, has special educational needs or a serious long-term condition. Young siblings can: Get information about disability and conditions, and tips for enjoying life and dealing with feelings. Get help from our team with sibling issues at home and at school.
