The Pan African Academy is an online supplementary school offering young people a safe and welcoming space to explore the rich history and culture of the continent of Africa. Taught by a fully qualified and experienced history educator, students will benefit from an academically robust and engaging history curriculum. Supplementary education has always been an important part of the fabric of Black British life and we hope to bridge the gap between children of the diaspora and their homeland.Our aim is to educate and empower future generations of proud Africans, providing young people with a comprehensive and academically rigorous education on the history of the continent. Our goal is for this education to instil in young people a deeper knowledge of self and pride in their historical and cultural backgrounds; and perhaps even a desire to go on to study and work in fields which will help in the liberation of Africa.

This autumn Fabrica presents a new artwork by Dublin-based artist Vanessa Daws. In this immersive film installation visitors are offered a unique insight into the experience of the long-distance swimmer. Meshing together the swimmer’s inward monologue, the physical sensation of the water and the challenge of the open water endurance swim, the artwork invites us to wonder what strange fascination the sea has for us, why we choose to submerge ourselves in it and why we feel compelled to try to navigate it.

The beginning of Getshop Today was the moment when we – a local UK based web design company - started to get inquiries from people who already had been building their own eCommerce stores using traditional eCommerce platforms and tools. We noticed that many of these would-be online merchants were very frustrated with the process and were looking for experienced experts who could help them to finish the setup. This obviously also involved more money spent by them than initially anticipated. When we realized how many people struggle while using traditional eCommerce platforms, we saw an opportunity to build a new product with a much easier and faster setup, better price and many other improved features. Our focus is on reusing, recycling and upcycling existing garments. We hold workshops around London, encouraging participants to mend their favourite items of clothing instead of disposing them into landfill. Our workshops aim to introduce ways of mending clothing through various textile methods in order to fix, deconstruct or customise to revive much loved pieces. We aim to inspire people to learn new, invaluable skills and reconnect with textile techniques, encouraging creativity and mindfulness when it comes to your wardrobe. All of our workshops are available for special events and large group bookings - visit our PRIVATE EVENTS section to request a private booking. All of our workshops come with free tea, coffee and cake (including vegan options!) Here at RESTORATION LONDON we encourage mending your clothing and therefore offer a 10% discount to those bringing in their own item of clothing to either fix or use as fabric during the workshop.

Kate Marsden, b. 1978, lives in South London. She is a West Sussex born/London based artist, with a background in Fashion & Textile Design and Surface Pattern Design. Her mixed media paintings, drawings and prints are the result of many years of experimentation alongside her more graphic, illustrative design based work. Kate paints everyday items and objects, and is increasingly inspired by the natural world and the abstraction of it. A desire to alter the viewer’s perception of her subject matter has long been her desired outcome, whether this be via the subversion of a traditional subject, or the beautification of something considered to be ugly or undesirable. Kate’s work can be seen in private collections as well as commercial commissions including at the refurbished South London arts centre, Fairfield Halls. Her fabric designs have graced a wide range products and have featured in both national and international press.

Hi there. Thanks for hopping onto my website. I'm Maggie, a textile artist living and practising in Liverpool, passionate about sustainability. My main method is botanical contact printing [also known as eco printing], using local leaves with natural dyes to design and create unique and sustainable hand printed designs on natural fibres. I work on both fabric and paper, using preloved, upcycled fibres as much as possible. My inspiration is drawn from Liverpool's rich natural environment and green spaces, and their botanical diversity. I'm passionate about sustainable and ethical practice, and particularly about challenging the social and environmental havoc that the textile and fashion industries are wreaking on our planet. I use and promote alternative, eco friendly and socially just materials and methods which use natural processes, applying heat and moisture to release and transfer pigments and dyes. . Our teaching techniques at MAKE are very holistic. All of our students design and make items that they want to create for their level of skill. From basic skirts, curtains, pillows, simple pencil cases through to ultimate fashionista jackets! With my younger teenage fashion students every project is more exciting as its bespoke to them and their vision...just like a mini fashion school. We're just there for you on your journey, enabling you to actually make it! We work with students from concept, learning how to measure, fabric selection through to finally sewing your final project from curtains to clothing. Most of our current students couldn't sew or use a machine before they came to MAKE. After our regular weekly sessions, they now make clothes that they actually want to wear and create curtains or bags that make their friends envious! Anyone can learn to sew, design and make. All you need is a bit of encouragement, patience and a nice cuppa to help you along your way!
