We will be celebrating the Queen's jubilee with some 'garden tea parties', with sandwiches and cake, during our last week of term (23rd to 26th of May). We will keep you posted with the days and will make sure every child can a attend a party if they want to. After the half term break, we will be talking about 'Moving on' generally and very subtly! With the Bluebell children, we will focus on the similarities with preschool and school (similar toys and activities, role play areas, outside play areas, carpet time, own peg for bag etc.) The Bluebell children will be practicing some of the skills that will help them in their transition to school. We will be posting some activity ideas you can practice at home too. As well as all this we will be having lots of Summer fun! talking about places we have visited in Brighton, and other places around the UK and around the world!, We will be playing different activities and games on the field, football, tennis, racing, obstacle courses, parachute games and more! Tapestry: This year we started a new system for monitoring each child's development, as some of you may know. We will be reviewing this system and would appreciate your comments and feedback, how is it from a parent's perspective? Don't forget you can access ideas for things to try at home with your child on the Activity Tab on your child's Tapestry account. Lunch time and end of day return: As you may now be aware, we changed our collection routine after lunch and at the end of the day. Tulip children arriving or going home at 12.15 will be collected from the main front door. Bluebell children arriving or going home at 12.15 will be collected from the Bluebell door as before. At 3.30/3.45 all children will be collected from the first door (to Tulip room) past the tall wooden gate. Important dates: Parent's evening: We will be having telephone Parent's 'evenings' appointments for the Tulip parents, during the days of the 16th, 17th and 18th of May. Time slots can be booked from next week. The Bluebell children's parent's evening will be on the 30th of June. This will be 'face to face' as we will be asking parents to read and sign their child school transfer document. The transfer document will give your child's new teacher a brief summary of their strengths and interests in the different areas of learning and will include any information that will help your child settle in school. This is just part of our process for ensuring a smooth transition to the reception school year. Inset day: Preschool will be closed for an inset day on Friday 27th of May Half term: Monday 30th of May to Friday 3rd of June. Summer fayre Saturday 25th of June: We are excited to announce we will be hosting our popular summer fayre again this year! after a 2 year absence. The fayre is a really popular day and we will rely on lots of volunteers to help it run smoothly. Please let us know if you would be able to help in any way. As you know, Fiveways is a charity and we rely on our fundraising activities to provide the equipment and resources we need for our wonderful setting. End of term photographer: Please note the change in date. Our end of year photograph will be on Thursday 7th of July. Winter solstice is between the past and the future. It is a place of freedom from the past and free from the future. The only place to make a choice. The dying Sun enters the present to be reborn or regenerated. The present tense is a womb that gives birth to all things, a dot surrounded by a circle is a symbol for a womb and provides the plan for the life to be grown. These seeds contain within them the three functions that govern all life forms, future, present and past. The present is that which breathes in and out or future and past. In Ancient Egypt the name of a Mummy is a Karist or the Call to be I Am. Making a mummy is making a seed to plant in the earth, and this seed is a storehouse of memories of its past experiences as a basis of how it relates to its promised future. Memories of events that rely on external circumstances for their life are left behind and memories that contribute towards the character of the being are built in to the seeds of future causes. What belongs to us is not the memories of the events themselves, but the pain or joy of our responses to those events. How we respond is what is important, What we respond too is not important. When we die, we do not take our house, money, clothes or material obligations with us, we take our painful or joyful responses to what happened to us. We cannot change the event but we can change our response. Out of these seeds of causes we create a new year. Jesus is a Sun God, incorporated in a set of stories about an initiatory journey to become Karistified. It is not a past tense story, It is a story about the birth and death of all life forms and as such should not have to endure the restrictions of time, space or gender. The same stories have existed for thousands of years based on the relationship between light and matter. The source material comes from a much deeper past than most organ-isations are prepared to admit. The goddesses are said to be immortal and the Gods are mortal. Relative to gender a man and a womb-man, are both mortal. What exists is immortal and mortal with an active and passive functionality or mortal with a future and a past. The real cause of all births is unproven by science and religion. The cause of any birth is the I AM of the child from out the darkness and the materials for that birth are provided through the womb of the mother. All births are virgin births in the sense that it is the spirit of the child that controls the time, place and circumstances of the birth. This consciousness transits from apparently nowhere into a womb that is somewhere and appears on Earth. All women are unconsciously in contact with the other world. It is the same with the upper womb of the mind where a thought can drop into your head from nowhere and can appear as uttered speech through your mouth. The words uttered and uterus in Ancient culture are often attributed to a priest who uttered the words that come though the present tense. Winter Solstice is an acknowledgement of the creative potential contained within the seeds of all life forms with a promised return or a restoration of circular continuity. If you’re interested in sewing with us, read on for some class info! Guaranteed small class size of no more than six students so you get all the help you need. Classes are in person and take place in our Dublin 8 studio. All of our courses are suited to both beginners and intermediates as these classes are taught by individual attention, working on your own project in your own time and pace. We provide the sewing machines and supply everything you need to get you started with your first beginner’s project. If there is a project you want to work on you will need to bring all materials, patternwork and requirements of your pattern eg thread, notions, zips etc. If you’re attending as a beginner, you will learn basic machine functions, practice threading the machine and make a small stitch sampler. You will be shown how to insert a zip and make a small bag. Improvers, we can work with you on any project you may need guidance with. From alterations, cushion covers, upcycling vintage clothing, cosplay, cloning your favourite garment or learning how to make your own clothes, we can cover it all. We have a beautiful, bright, studio for you to learn in. There is a lovely sense of community in class, because the group size is small, you get lots of attention in a friendly, relaxed environment. All of our machines are new and easy to learn on. There is also an overlocker for student use and we provide basic sewing kit for you to use. This is a two hour class, from 6pm-8pm, once a week on the same evening each week, for three weeks consecutively. Course fee; €95 When booking a course, please check your dates carefully you must be able to attend all three dates, no refunds once booked. Missed sessions, for ANY reason, cannot be made up, transferred, carried over, refunded or credited. Class availability is extremely limited due to a backlog from the prolonged studio closure and and unfortunately we can only accept a small amount of students per session. Please note the studio is housed in a private artists studio, not a commercial unit. Access is granted to our class attendees and clients only. However if you would like to drop by to see one of our classes in action you can do so by booking in for an appointment where we will show you around and answer any questions. However we are not offering such appointments during Covid-19 restrictions. Is my booking transferrable? Your course enrollment can only be used for the dates booked, but you can transfer it into someone else’s name if you can’t make it – just let us know before they attend. What is the cancellation policy? Unfortunately, if for any reason you cannot attend the classes on the date you are booked for, we cannot reschedule it to a new date and there is no refund on classes and workshops. Please make sure that you, or the person you are booking for, can attend before booking a class with us. If you are unable to attend the classes you can give your place to your friend or family member. Please email us at least 24 hours before the course with the name of the person attending in your place. If unforeseen circumstances cause us to cancel the class you will be informed as soon as possible and a full refund will be made. A brief description of who we are, who we aim to be and some guiding principles. In short, we want to be the service we could've done with as teens. We are a collective, this means if you want to get involved with us but feel something below needs to change, we can discuss that. Contact us We are a UK-Based collective made up of LGBT+ Travellers working to provide support, representation and a platform for LGBT+ Travellers. Our focus is both on local action/solidarity and gaining wider recognition for issues faced by those of us in this particular intersection. “Travellers” is used as inclusively as possible. There is enough commonality of experience and discrimination to make this inter-group solidarity important. We still recognise the differences between the groups but believe there is enough shared experience, including discriminations, to make us effective allies for one another and to mean we’re often fighting the exact same battle. We operate on a self-identification policy rather than relying on ethically dubious ideas of racial purity. There is no hierarchy of settled vs nomadic, but we do acknowledge the different issues that can occur as a nomadic/peripatetic Traveller vs a settled one (and again, the difference between settled on sites vs settled in housing). Traveller in this context can mean Romany Gypsies, Welsh Kale, Irish Travellers, Scottish Travellers, New Travellers, Van Dwellers, Boaters, Bargee, Showmen, Circus People. Anyone who positively (but not necessarily publically) identifies as LGBT+ and a Traveller is welcome. We are a loose collective rather than a codified charity because we feel this makes it easier to respond quickly, without as much red tape. Despite this, we want to operate as transparently as possible. To this end: We have meetings at least quarterly, minutes are available to whoever requests them unless we have good reason to believe the request is vexatious or malicious. We do have a bank account & paypal, our finances can be looked at and explained upon request unless we have good reason to believe the request is vexatious or malicious. We welcome scrutiny and will attempt to be transparent when questions are asked of us unless we have good reason to believe the request is vexatious or malicious or if it would infringe on an individual's privacy. We reject the stereotyped oversimplifications of “Travellers are Homophobic/Transphobic”. It can be difficult to come from some more traditional backgrounds among Travellers but there is enough variation within the groups to make this meaningless. We don’t exist because Travellers are bad people, we exist because there’s currently not a space for us at all. This is more because until recently Traveller activism has been focussed on the essentials of survival (a place to stay, access to sanitation) or very base human demands (education etc.) and it is only now that we have wanted to shine light on the diversity within our communities. Equally, we reject the stereotyped oversimplifications of “LGBT+ people are anti-Traveller”. This can be the case, but is not the rule. We aim to provide regular space for our community to meet, network and build links of solidarity. We want to represent LGBT+ Issues in Traveller spaces and Traveller issues in LGBT+ Spaces. Given our particularly inclusive definition of Traveller, we also aim to shine a light on the communities that have been often overlooked by mainstream Traveller activism or Traveller charities. Decisions are made either at our meetings or by consulting with the general steering group “Pridesters”- You may request to join this. We value inter-group solidarity. This looks like actively welcoming collaborations with others and actively challenging prejudice when we find it, regardless of it impacting us. In terms of direct help: we offer outreach phone calls to offer advice and combat isolation, a solidarity fund and logistic help with leaving difficult situations. We have access to a network of Traveller-friendly safehouses (which we’re looking to build upon) to get you safe if needs be.

In fact, it is said that, considering her resourcefulness and her charm, in 1855 her cousin Cavour sent her on a mission to the French court of Napoleon III to plead the Franco-Piedmontese alliance with the emperor.
