It all began in February 2003 when a group of artists and residents of north west Sheffield took part in the wond’rous watery walk – an event on the ponderosa. This was funded and planned through the garden rooms, an arts organisation that existed at the time, as part of bloom (a local festival in Netherthorpe, Upperthorpe and Langsett). Roanna Heller and Cassie Limb were inspired by Richard Long and Andy Goldsworthy, and wanted to create art in the park. They aimed for local residents in north west Sheffield to get involved, get inspired and engage creatively with naturally found objects. The Art in the Park project became bigger and more diverse than the garden rooms could support in terms of arts activity and in 2004 the project received it’s own Arts Council funding. Art in the Park as an organisation was born, running an event practically each month, which took the format of: a gazebo in a park, food, volunteers and nature inspired crafts. They were very low key, but showed there was a community need and interest in free, environmental art. Our limited company status was given in May 2006 and we became a registered charity in November 2006.

Dr Iain Lucas is the Chief Officer for the Rowner Community Trust. His role is to ensure the Trust enhance Grange Ward’s community well-being through improving the social, economic, environmental and cultural conditions identified by individuals and their communities as it is essential for them to flourish and fulfil their potential whilst being accountable to the community the Trust serves. Kim Lucas is the Project Coordinator. Kim runs the Gosport Youth Employment Skills (YES) Hub and Employment Access Centre funded by the Department for Works and Pensions and Gosport Borough Council. Victoria Smith runs the marketing (traditional and digital) for the Nimrod Community Centre and Rowner Community Trust. Victoria will be keeping the information on what is going on at the centre up to date and relevant. Carl Parkins is the Well-Being Practitioner for the young people who attend the Gosport YES Hub. Carl will be supporting the young people as they aim to move back into work, education or training. Daniel Brown is the Youth and Community Worker for the YES Hub and will be working alongside Kim and Carl. Daniel will support clients in creating personal plans to set attainable goals in the short term and explore long-term aspirations.

The founder of Peony Blue, Jonna, spent her childhood running wild in the beautiful nature of Finland. The winters were spent enjoying the snowy landscapes and muted colours, and summers spent listening to the wind in the trees and the sound of waves at her grandparents' summer cottage on a small island. These memories have given her a huge love and appreciation of the nature around us. Jonna uses her roots deep in Nordic nature as a constant inspiration for her work and is committed to being respectful of the environmental impact made by her industry. Since graduating Jonna has explored many ways of creating floral designs using natural, biodegradable and recyclable materials. In the early years of Peony Blue, Jonna concentrated on wedding work and creating gorgeous wedding flowers for her clients as well as teaching other flower lovers about floristry. After the Covid pandemic put a stop for weddings and workshops, she rediscovered her long time dream of running a florist shop where she can combine beautiful flowers, eco friendly homewares and spreading joy with flowers on daily basis. After seven years of dreaming, the first Peony Blue shop will open its doors in Bournemouth in April 2021.

The Resurgence Trust is an educational charity at the forefront of a movement for change. The charity was established in 2006 to further the educational work of Resurgence magazine. The Resurgence Trust informs the environmental debate, inspires a culture of optimism and guides us towards positive solutions to the global challenges we now face. The aim of charity is to foster a greater connection to Nature to enhance personal wellbeing, support resilient communities and inform social change towards regenerative societies that enrich our natural environment. The charity works to advance education on a range of issues including conservation, regeneration of the natural environment, arts, and culture. The Trust achieves this through three main programmes - the publication of Resurgence & Ecologist, the publication of The Ecologist website, and the production of dynamic a series of events, conferences and workshops. Through implementing the Trust's charitable objectives, we aim to raise awareness of the opportunities for positive change, inspire action and facilitate debates. South East Wales Biodiversity Records Centre (SEWBReC) is the Local Environmental Records Centre for the collation, management and dissemination of biodiversity data for Gwent and Glamorgan. Our aim is to make appropriate local biodiversity information available to all those who need it, to help ensure that decisions which affect local biodiversity are made using the best available data. We achieve this aim by: Supporting the local biological recording community and helping them to manage and mobilise the wealth of information they gather; Working with a wide range of organisations to collate and computerise the data they hold; Collating and managing these diverse data sets in a central location; and Delivering a range of innovative and tailored biodiversity information products and services to meet the needs of our users. SEWBReC covers the vice-counties of Gwent (VC35, aka Monmouthshire) and Glamorgan (VC41). Our Unitary Authorities are: Blaenau-Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Swansea, Torfaen and Vale of Glamorgan*. *We follow the border of the Brecon Beacons National Park, so some of these areas are cropped; please use the Find a LERC tool if you are unsure whether you / your project falls within the SEWBReC area.

Human Nature was founded by Dr Rebecca Jefferson. Human Nature was born out of Rebecca’s belief that social sciences are a vital tool for successful nature conservation. Humans create most of the problems our planet faces. We also care about the impact of these issues. And we are the agents of positive change – we can help humans and the natural world to flourish together. Social challenges and environmental challenges are inextricably linked. Officially launched in January 2020, it has been five years in the making, and draws on over a decade of her experience as a social science research scientist for organisations including Natural England, The University of Plymouth and, most recently, as the first social scientist in the RSPB’s Centre For Conservation Science. This is where Human Nature comes in. We provide training to scientists so they can confidently understand and apply existing relevant social science research, as well as work more effectively with the public in relation to their agenda. We offer mentoring to organisational leaders who want to ensure they are making best use of social science to meet their conservation outcomes. And we empower individuals to make informed choices that balance their needs with those of the planet as they go about everyday life.
