We are the sole secondary school in Burnham on Crouch and the Dengie, and therefore uniquely placed to ensure that children achieve their potential. Our student exam results remain consistently above national averages and we continue to develop confident students who go out in the world with the security that only a strong education can provide. Our last Ofsted was in October 2016, with the school rated as Good in all aspects, the report can be found on the Ofsted section of our website. dukus Learning Environment Edukus prefer teach in small numbers in a purpose built off-grid classroom set in the garden environment of a family home. While a cheaper alternative to hiring large classroom accommodation (which does not have to be passed on), this choice was part of a conscious goal to limit class sizes to a very small and comfortable number in which all students, children and adult, could feel that they could get to know and interact with the other students and the teacher. In our setup, we can switch from a more conventional 5-seat desk layout in various formats, all the way down to laid-back, bean-bag slouch-discussions. We ultimately called this Boutique Education. We have space for up to six students at a maximum, but prefer 4 or 5 as a norm. This allows us to deliver core academic tuition, but also room to undertake meaningful practical learning where everyone can be involved with a purposeful goal. Larger Courses If you require a larger course, ranging from 5 to 30, Edukus also teach at facilities provided by Midkent College. The campus provides a number of facilities above classroom environments, including cafes and ample parking.

Raw Learning provides opportunities in an outdoor setting for children to develop a variety of skills: PSHE skills specifically such as independence, self-discovery, communication, self-esteem, and confidence building. Children learn to take risks, use their initiatives and co-operate. Beyond this, our teachers use the outdoor environment as a vehicle for art activities, key science concepts, developing physical skills and a whole lot more! Learning sessions are adult-led but provide flexibility for children to follow their own learning pathways and interests. We offer mainstream education catering for the individual child’s needs before all else.

Since inception in 1975, Canvey Island Swimming Club (CISC) has been competing in the world of swimming and has pupils from all local areas. Swimmers are personally trained and developed in line with Swim England Swim Plans, then fed through to the Club’s Squad Teams. Once swimmers reach Squad level, Head Coach and Teachers work closely together with members to transform them into competitive swimmers. We are a competitive club whilst encouraging younger swimmers to attend for the fitness and fun side of swimming in a Swim Club environment. All swimmers are introduced into a sporting environment where fitness along with nutrition play a vital role. CISC competes in local, regional and national swimming leagues. We swim against other clubs in and around Essex and at County level. All our swimmers develop confidence and courage to compete in races either as an individual or in team events. So, come on Canvey! From August 2011 to August 2013 – CISC temporarily moved to Runnymede whilst Waterside underwent major development work. We had no Coach and no Squads at this point. The Club provided Swim School and Swim Development lessons. Late 2013 saw the return of a Coach and Squad groups slowly built. In 2018 the full committee resigned, leaving the club in disrepair, with no Swim School Teacher and no Head Coach. Some of the parents pulled together to become the new committee, their first action was to re-employ Paul as Head Coach and Alison as Head Teacher. They revised Membership/payment/insurance costs and Teamed together to make what the club is today, a family friendly swimming club.

The College’s history dates back to 1706 when Palmer’s first opened after merchant William Palmer founded a charity school for the parish of Grays, while the Seevic Campus opened in 1972 as a Sixth Form college.
