Art Play is a space based in Shoreditch, that provides creative workshops for both children and adults. If you are looking to learn a new skill, make new friends or simply have fun doing something a bit different, we are the place for you! Here at Art Play London, we offer a wide range of creative workshops for adults and children of all ages. We believe in the importance of expressing ourselves creatively, freeing our imaginations and most importantly, having fun! Whether you're an artist already or looking to try something new, we offer a huge selection of classes for all abilities. Art Play has a strong focus on the environment and aims to educate children and adults on their environmental impact through art. We therefore use a variety of sustainable mediums and materials. We are a part of the worldwide Precious Plastic Community, which means we have a plastic collection point for HDPE plastic, which would otherwise end up in landfills or the ocean. Once collected, the plastic is shredded and melted using equipment we have in our studio. It can then be turned into useful objects such as plant pots and coasters, and can even be turned into art! Art Play London was founded by Silva Castellani in 2018, starting out as pop-up events around London. We set up our studio space in February 2022 and are now permanently based in Shoreditch.

I've always had a love for paper products - buying a new diary was the hightlight of my school year and scraps of wrapping paper, sticker sheets, and vicotorian die cuts were treasured in old shoeboxes to reuse some day. I've always been drawn to kitschy imagery, glittery ephemera and colourful, quirky illustrations - looking back at my younger self, I can totally see why I do what I now do! After years of working in the corporate environment I decided to chase my bigger dream - running gooseglitters fulltime and show the world what beauty we can find in those old, vintage papers. It has become my mission to save as many secondhand books as I possibly can so you can often find me wondering around carboot sales and flea markets. Making new art from these old, used, sometimes ripped and stained, scribbled on, gorgeous papers makes me truly happy. Reusing and repurposing what is already with us and celebrating the life these books have lived, the conversations they've been part off, the households they've lived in: I seriously believe they need to be seen again. What makes me almost happier than creating collages myself is introducing others to this beautiful craft - have a look on my workshop page for more information.
