Bowles became a charity for children and young people in 1964 with HRH The Duke of Edinburgh coming on board as Royal Patron in the same year. Bowles now supports thousands of young people from all backgrounds to take part in outdoor education courses and activities all aimed at helping young people to grow and to develop in a beautiful, adventurous and challenging, yet safe environment. Bowles supports hundreds of schools and youth groups to help their young people get the best experiences possible. The outcomes of The Bowles Rocks Trust are self confidence, resilience, physical and mental health, friendship and fun.

Thank you for visiting the Valence School website. We are proud to share with you the excellent work we do with children and young people who have physical disabilities and complex medical needs. Our school is unique within the maintained sector in the whole of southern England. We cater for students aged 4 to 19 and have both day and boarding places. We have a large site with high quality teaching, social care and health care facilities. A staff team of over 200 people provides specialist teaching, social care, therapies and nursing care to an exceptionally high standard. Our overall aim is to enable every child and young person to achieve meaningful independence. Students flourish in a supportive but challenging environment, making good educational progress and achieving a range of accreditation as they get older. There is excellent support to enable students to achieve functional communication, mobility and skills for daily living. We are a Foundation Special School and are part of the Kent SEN Trust, a cooperative trust of ten schools working together to improve outcomes for all the children and young people attending the schools. In 2008 Valence became a specialist Sports College and this status plays a significant role in raising students’ achievements and their participation in high quality physical education and sport. The School works proactively with parents and external professionals to provide holistic support for every child and young person. It is also developing high quality outreach support services to local schools and more widely for children and young people in Kent who have physical disabilities who are attending mainstream schools. The School always places children and young people at the centre of all decisions it takes and it has a relentless focus on achieving the best possible outcomes for every student. Learn with Confidence is here to provide a personalised education for students who find learning in a school setting challenging, or those who seek an alternative to traditional schooling. We offer access to fully qualified and experienced teachers across a number of subjects, in an environment that is calm, caring and friendly. Experimental learning offers a variety of experiences that cannot be acquired in a typical classroom environment, especially in natural sciences. Fieldwork-based education promotes critical thinking and problem solving, assisting in the retention of new scientific concepts. “EDUCOAST – Nature-Based Education in Coastal GeoSciences – A field station in southern Portugal” aims at promoting nature-based education in coastal and marine geosciences through classroom lecturing and field-based practical exercises. The educational offer includes school (elementary and high) and local associations’ visits on-demand with hands-on activities, academic training (internships, M.Sc., and Ph.D.), international summer schools, professional training for maritime personnel, tourism professionals, and secondary school teachers. The project is the joint collaboration between the the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere, I. P. (promoter), the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, the Portuguese Environment Agency, I.P., and the Centro de Ciência Viva de Tavira. The EDUCOAST project is funded by the EEA Blue Growth Programme’s grant under call #5 “Education”. It allows the implementation of the training program and covers the expenses of the national and international trainees.

Brought up with foraging and wild food in her blood, Iona took a deep dive on the subject in her mid-twenties, and never resurfaced. Iona has worked on surveys and recording projects, taught plant and fungi ID as well as foraging/outdoor food preparation and preservation skills for over a decade now, more recently including demonstrations in fungal microscopy, and her passion for nature extends far beyond foraging for food. However as a chef with experience in both professional kitchens and running her own events catering business, wild food is always where she comes home to, believing that food is a universal and easily accessible way for us to connect and engage with our environment and each other. Whatever your needs, from private courses, to public courses, corporate events, talks, interviews, educational events for both adults and children, and more, Iona is armed with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Equally importantly she has a keen understanding of the other myriad benefits of time spent gathering wild food in your environment, and is excited to open your eyes to all of the incredible beauty and bounty that our British countryside has to offer, through foraging in Sussex and further afield.
