Making Futures is a social enterprise working with a wide range of groups to improve health, wellbeing, self-esteem & employability through creative arts. Making Futures CIC is the latest addition to the DT Craft & Design family. Debbie has been quietly running Making Futures for several years, teaching and producing training materials, mentoring and working with community groups. As it has now ‘grown up’ we thought it should have its own website so welcome to our new space here on the web. The DT Crafts shop is, of course still very much available, with an ever-increasing range of products (and a need for more storage space!). It’s still just the two of us looking after you so expect the same personalised service and attention to detail here as at the shop. Debbie will still be answering your emails and questions (no ‘bots’ on our sites!), taking workshop and course bookings and discussing your requirements for courses, groups and projects. Speaking of which, we are thrilled to announce that we have joined the Artybird flock and we are delighted to be able to offer two amazing, professional distance learning knitwear design programmes – both accredited by City & Guilds. We’ve produced a short video and prospectuses for each programme which you can find here. And for those of you who may not have met us in person or are new visitors, we’ve done a short video about Debbie and how DT Crafts and Making Futures came about, here. Noise Academy was created in 2015 by Joe Townsley who is a midlands based DJ and Music producer. Joe studied Music production at Access Creative College in Lincoln and felt inspired by the innovation of the sessions and how engaged he became through the use of music technology. After completing the course, Joe went into organising Dance music events in the club scene whilst playing at many other live DJ events and festivals. Joe came across the opportunity to do some work experience with ‘Jeff Rich’ who was the main drummer for the famous ‘Status Quo’. He helped Jeff set up several Drumming workshops in primary schools across the UK and this opened Joe’s eyes to a whole new world. He felt so inspired by the workshops and a light bulb moment occurred. Dj skills in schools? This could work really well… Joe found out about the Prince’s Trust enterprise scheme and approached them with his idea. He was offered a place on the course, and with their support and guidance, Noise Academy was born. Building up from just one school, Noise Academy now work with over 50 schools every week along with facilitating holiday clubs across Christmas, Easter and Summer. Noise Academy have since been supported by Youth Music to help develop their own educational hub alongside receiving numerous awards including; CO-OP Community Champions and The AIM Local Hero Awards (BBC Music introducing) #makesomenoise “I am so lucky to have found my niche, and to be able to do something that I love every day. I meet many subtle revolutionaries. One thing most have in common is that they struggle to describe what it is they do. They are doing something unique and it does not have a name yet. They may work with individuals, families or organisations. They may call themselves a consultant, founder, coach, designer, therapist, trainer, teacher, facilitator, researcher or leader. Often, they are all of these things and more. What they have in common is they are making lives better in new and unexpected ways. This is not a straightforward path. Few workplaces welcome any of the three qualities. I have yet to find one that wants all three. Working on the big picture is seen as a distraction from the urgent business of the day. It is easy to pick up the message that the approach - perhaps your greatest strength - has no value. That leads to unfulfilling work and the exhaustion of trying to be someone you are not. When you try to use these qualities, you will meet another challenge. Most of the existing advice will not work for you effectively. It is either outdated or just plain wrong. Some of it will even make things worse. This leads to anxiety and frustration. Perhaps even the sense of being a failure when things just don’t work out as intended time after time. So many people don't have access to the transformational benefits of dance as part of their everyday life: such as the freedom to create; the opportunity to improve mental, physical and emotional health and well-being, whilst decreasing social isolation and exclusion. We know that it's vital that more people and communities have opportunities to watch, be part of and perform dance. Our impact on the community A total of 23,445 people have participated in Plymouth Dance workshops and events since 2009. 109 young people have volunteered for Plymouth Dance since the volunteering scheme began in 2014, logging 2,207 volunteering hours in total. Tea Dances with a Twist! is an intergenerational and inclusive social dance event that has attracted people aged 3.5 weeks to 104 years old. A total of 7,815 people have participated in our TDT events and TDT branch projects since 2016. Plymouth Dance has engaged 1,438 local, national and international artists and practitioners since 2009. Audiences for Plymouth Dance projects have ranged from 300 to 55,000. Over 13 years, Plymouth Dance has invested in excess of £1.27m into the city; 26% through trusts and charities, 50% through Arts Council England and 24% through earned income and commissions. Plymouth Dance is a member of the Plymouth Social Enterprise Network.

Home About Us Our Team School training Holiday courses Family training Adult training Learn to Ride Contact 2 / 10 Wheely Fun Wheels has gathered an experienced team of locally based National Standard Cycling instructors who are keen to promote the use of bicycles as every day transport. Amongst our group of instructors we have qualified bike mechanics, ‘Breeze’ leaders, British Cycling coaches and experience of working with disabilities. Our Bikeability instructors also deliver our balance bike programme and adult cycle training. Our sister company Inclusive Pedals CIC is a social enterprise delivering many community cycling initiatives (Dr Bike, Adapted Cycling, Cycling Without Age & 'Couch to 10 Miles') with the same staff involved as well as a team of volunteers. Wheely Fun Wheels Ltd is based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. The business is run by Alastair Meikle who was raised in Chesterfield and after leaving school spent 30 years working for the Civil Aviation Authority and National Air Traffic Services. One of a very few people who regularly cycled to work at the London Air Traffic Control Centre! Following his decision to leave air traffic control he spent a year touring Europe in a motorhome with his family and bicycles before relocating back to Chesterfield and starting Wheely Fun Wheels. Alastair was the winner of the national Modeshift award in 2017 'Individual Contribution to Sustainable Travel' and in 2019 delivered practical training workshops at the national Bikeability conference. Whilst we are often on our bikes for our daily transport needs most of us also tour on our bikes, do the occasional race and take part in sportives, one of our instructors organises long distance rides in the Peak District. Instructors are members of Chesterfield Cycle Campaign. Check out local cycling maps and route suggestions on their website.
