Established in 1982, our aim is to take you on a journey to experience the talent, skill, originality and beauty of contemporary craft made by craftspeople based in the UK today. For the past 40 years our seasonal exhibition programme has been bringing together the very best of handmade contemporary jewellery, ceramics, limited edition prints, glass, wood, textiles and works in mixed media exploring specific themes. We also provide an ever changing selection of makers who support and enrich each main exhibition. We support new and emerging makers as well as more established makers and over our remarkably rich history we have introduced thousands of talented individuals to visitors to the vibrant city of Leeds. Everything on display is for sale so we're a retail space as well as a gallery environment for you to take a mindful moment away from daily life. With work by over 300 designers on display at any one time you're sure to find what you're looking for; whether it be for inspiration, gift buying or simply to while away a peaceful lunch hour.

Courses for adults in community venues, among them Radio Production, Creative Media, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), Cook and Eat (healthy eating), Computers in Everyday Life, STEPS to Excellence and Personal Success, Wellbeing and more – some for women or people with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities, others for everyone. Many courses run at South Leeds Community Radio and other community venues, as well as inner-city schools Production and recording – moving image and audio. Vera Media has produced over 150 films for training, promotion, campaigning, records of events and much more, specialising in work with public, third sector, charity, arts, environment, education, feminist and community organisations. Productions have been broadcast on the BBC, Al-Jezeerah and more, and won awards at festivals around the world. Consultancy, fundraising, project and community development. Vera Media has run commissioned projects and programmes supported by NHS, Arts Council, National Lottery, European Union, government departments, local authorities, national charities, social enterprises, foundations, the Skills Funding Agency and more and is now able to offer its expertise to others. It is available for consultancy on social enterprise, marketing, projects and development for sustainability and within communities.

baby week leeds

Baby Week is a registered charity and aims to bring sectors and services together to promote the best start in life. The initiative was inspired by Brazil’s ‘Semana do Bebe’ (UNICEF 2010), following a visit to the country by Churchill Fellow Lucy Potter. Leeds hosted the first English speaking Baby Week in 2016 and since has had interest from several other towns and cities wanting to host their own celebrations. Since Baby Week became a registered charity, Bradford, Hull, Wakefield, Cheshire and Merseyside have organised their very own take on Baby Week Leeds. In 2019, we were nominated and came in second place as charity of the year by The British Journal of Midwifery Practice Awards (BJM). Over the past six years, hundreds of citywide events have been held with thousands of attendees including parents, expectant parents, practitioners and professionals , and of course babies! Each city hosting the week has the opportunity to celebrate and bring together the work of maternity and early years services, helping to raise awareness of the critical developmental growth stages and a real focus on the 1001 days in order to give every baby the best start in life. Baby Week is organised with Child Friendly Leeds with partnerships involving NHS Leeds, Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Leeds Dads, Public Health, Mumbler, and many more partners across all sectors. To mark the 5 years in 2020, Baby Week Leeds focussed on five of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as a focus over the next few years: Good Health and Wellbeing, Reduced Inequality, Sustainable cities and communities, Climate action and No Poverty.

We are the Open College of the Arts. An open access, distance learning provider of higher education courses based in Barnsley, UK. We were created by Michael Young in 1987, one of the founders of the Open University, to offer high quality arts courses as a means to transform lives, with the opportunity to develop and express creative talents under the guidance of experienced artists. An OCA qualification, be that a degree, Certificate or Diploma in Higher Education, or undergraduate credit, can be a huge achievement for many and opens the doors to new careers, or new lifestyles built around the arts. Over 2000 people study with us every year as part of a truly global community representing 67 nationalities worldwide on 13 degree programmes and one Masters. We reach people in every walk of life, with over 20% of our students having a declared disability, and many students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and with no qualifications. Our students come from every walk of life imaginable, fitting work, family, caring responsibilities and everything else alongside study and more besides. OCA’s community consists of students, practitioners and tutors working together, offering encouragement, creative criticism, hints, tips, insights and ideas. A community invested time, running events, social media groups, meet-ups in places as diverse as London and Glasgow, Newport and Scunthorpe, you’ll feel at home as part of the OCA.
