Dove House Community Trust (DHCT) is renowned as the leading community organisation responsible for the delivery of front-line community services in the Bogside and Brandywell area of Derry City. Established in 1984, Dove House, has, for more than 30 years provided many vital services and support to the people of the Bogside, Brandywell and the wider Derry City Council area. The Management Board of Dove House is populated by a number of local residents as well as representation from different sectors including public, private, community & voluntary. Each individual member brings with them an array of skills, experience and knowledge from both a professional and local level. The inclusion of residents in the running and managing of Dove House ensures that all services provided are in line with local need; furthermore, these services are effective in bringing about measurable change in people’s lives. Many organisations throughout the city, for example Conradh na Gaeilge (now the beautiful Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin on Gt. James’ Street), The Nerve Centre, The Gasyard Development Trust, Gasyard Wall Féile and The Bogside & Brandywell Initiative to name a few were embryonic visions which took on a life of their own whilst housed within Dove House. Presently ... Back in the early days, the centre was staffed by a committed, passionate and enthusiastic team of volunteers who provided a range of education and arts classes to local people. Dove House now provides a professional Advice Service to people in need across the Council area; a thriving Youth Club as well as drop-in centre in the city centre; a hub for those wishing to to return to employment or education; advocacy for women suffering domestic abuse; and help with money management. Dove House also works in partnership with other organisations in the area. in its present form has a dedicated team of advisors, who are equally committed and passionate about the local area. The current team work to support families on a low income and those in our community, who are most vulnerable. Information is available on a wide range of programmes? that can help them during a hardship. The range of projects, currently running in Dove House will ensure that the most vulnerable in the community can get assistance that they are entitled to, whether they are disabled or elderly, or experiencing other hardships. The staff will assess what their challenges are and based on the results of that, offer any assistance that they can. Advisors here can offer assistance with accessing benefits, referral to programmes dealing with debt management and financial capacity or accessing skills training. Introduction Fee or Fee: means the fee that becomes due to TL based on the fee structure (available on request) following the successful engagement of a Candidate. Overseas Placement: means the engagement of a Candidate that is to be employed on a permanent basis anywhere that is outside the borders of the United Kingdom (UK) and Northern Ireland. For the avoidance of doubt, this includes Candidates employed in the UK that will be required to spend any amount of time working outside the UK and Northern Ireland. Permanent Placement: means the engagement of any Candidate by a Client either on a part time or full time basis for an indefinite period of time or any term lasting longer than eight (8) weeks. Remuneration: Includes base salary or fees, guaranteed bonus and commission earnings, allowances, inducements payments and all other payments and taxable (and, where applicable, non-taxable) emoluments payable or receivable by the Candidate for services rendered to or on behalf of the Client. The headings in these Terms and Conditions are for reference only and do not affect their interpretation. Living in Dublin at the time, a work-hard play-hard culture had driven my body and mind to the brink and I regularly experienced panic attacks, depression and became quite unwell with an over-active thyroid – my body had had enough. Deep down even then I knew there was another way but felt stuck in my chosen career at the time. A chance conversation one evening in a pub with a friend opened my eyes to the world of holistic therapies like homeopathy, massage and yoga and a different way of being. I began to consider the prospect of honouring my heartfelt desire to help others. However it wasn’t until I fell pregnant with my first child that I found the courage to try a pregnancy massage and join a yoga class, persuaded by the chance that others would be beginning too. Healing myself came first and is an ongoing journey. Returning to Edinburgh that year I continued pregnancy yoga and massage and I have no doubt that both allowed me to sail through the 9 months inspiring me to go on and train as a bodyworker and leave my career in finance behind. I then spent many years working and learning about bodywork and building a successful niche massage practice supporting expectant and post-natal mums and their families. Some say that the average work-span of a massage therapist is 8 years and that certainly was the case for me. Whilst I was and still am hugely passionate about the benefits of positive touch, my body knew otherwise and it was time for a break from treating bodies in such a hands-on way. This realisation coincided with an opportunity to step back into employment for a while and I spent 3 fantastic years working for Secret Garden Outdoor Nursery founded by Cathy Bache. The chance to step into such a fabulous social enterprise was a true gift and allowed my deep love of Nature, which had been lost along the way, to resurface. I had the privilege to take part in a deep nature connection program called Art of Mentoring in 2014 and went on to train as a Forest Schools Practitioner and support young children in their free explorations of natural world. At that time, along with Nature, yoga was the biggest source of support in my life, emotionally, mentally and physically. I returned time and time again to the refuge of my mat to ease the physical and emotional stresses of parenting and life. In 2013, I had the privilege of doing my Foundation Yoga Training with Marc Woolford of Acquaviva Yoga. This year of training based around Marc’s interpretation of the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli really laid the foundations of my daily yoga practice and greatly influenced the style of my teaching today which is gentle yet deep, somatic and very mindful. In 2015 the conditions finally felt right for me to progress onto a full Teacher Training Diploma with Yoga Scotland, one of the most thorough and diverse qualifications in the UK. The loss of a dear friend that year and the deep grieving that unleashed became a transformational stage for me and gave me the push that I needed to step up and allow the Yoga teachings that had supported me so much over the years to be passed on to others. I completed the 2 year (500 hour) course in June 2017 and I'm now living and breathing Yoga and bringing my blend of the teachings out into my local community.

We are running a funded training programme for people interested in working in social care called an Introduction to social care. The three-day training is available for anyone living in Wales and it will take place on-line. The training days are over three consecutive days with a workbook to complete. The times are from 10am-2:30pm. The training will cover the essentials you need to start working in social care such as communication, safeguarding and working practices. When you start working in the sector, you will also receive extra support and training from your employer. If you are unable to access the on-line training or require support, please contact us at contact@wecare.wales. If you are unsure about a career in social care, there is a tool you can use to help you explore this and see what the work is like www.WeCare.wales/a-question-of-care-intro/. To work within the social care sector, you will need to have some checks to make sure you are suitable to work in the care sector, we will help you with these. This will include something called a Disclosure and Barring System (DBS) check to make sure you can work in social care. Certain roles also require Social Care Wales registration. This programme is not an accredited qualification in health and social care. We can’t guarantee you will get a job in social care, but you will be in a good position to find employment. The training is free and fully funded, but you will not get paid for attending.
