35 Design Space is an interactive studio set up to share craft knowledge and bring creative classes to all. Our classes are hands on and we hope that you learn a new skill and have a great time doing it! We aim to provide a creative learning environment to support and inspire fellow crafters. Alongside offering current and innovative workshop classes we want to promote historical textile crafts and share these endangered crafts to encourage their revival. If you wish to arrange a private event or book a custom made session please get in touch. Our studio can accommodate parties of up to 15. We'd love to help you celebrate occasions such as your birthday, baby shower, hen party and Christmas events with a workshop tailored to you. We're also available to lead corporate team building and mindfulness sessions with a difference. Try turning your hand at some creative crafts and surprise yourself with what you can make! We also offer private portfolio and university preparation tutoring to help you be more prepared and confident through the university applications process. Meadows is a romantic and feminine collection inspired by Victoriana, prairie-style, and folklore. Centred around dresses, the collection is inspired by various sources. The white cotton styles with a focus on embroidery and lace draw their inspiration largely from Victorian undergarments. Floral printed cotton which is inspired from the Victoriana revival of the 1970s. The collection also dips into a wide selection of historical inspiration from Tudor to The Renaissance, and fuses them with a modern sensibility. Meadows is designed in Hackney, East London, by Australian born, Central Saint Martins graduate, Louise Markey. Meadows is committed to make clothes which are made in a safe, ethical environment where working conditions are fair. We pride ourselves in sustainable practices and ethical manufacturing. We embody innovative cuts, bold colours and fine fabrics which are produced ethically and encourage slow, sustainable fashion. We have boutique-sized factories in China which are meticulously and consistently monitored by our supplier agents. Our factories have signed on to our internal ethical and safety compliance documents which we manage, inspect and enforce internally. We conduct frequent audits and have a supportive relationship with our manufacturers. These audits cover areas such as worker safety, gender equality and payment of a living wage. Meadows has made a long term aim to source more sustainable fabrics. We use industry standard textiles dyes which undergo rigorous testing before being used in the market and only Oeko-Tex certified printing inks. We are currently in the process of moving our products into Global Organic Textile Standard certified organic textiles and aim to source wool yarn exclusively from suppliers who adhere to the Responsible Wool Standard.

Classes and Workshops. The Tudor Rose Patchwork shop, in Oakley, Beds, houses two fully functioning and self-contained workshops, both of which hold regular classes and one day workshops. I am a freelance designer-maker, applied artist, crafts-woman, whatever you want to call me – I stitch stuff by hand; fabric, metal, porcelain, leather, vitreous enamel.. . My work is various, it depends whether I am working for myself, to commission or collaborating with other artists. But whatever I do is slow to make; detailed hand stitching in any material whether in silk, linen, wool or wire takes time, consequently my work is also slow to evolve. I decided to show on this site what I do, who I am work with, how I work and also how I think. I want to show the work behind HER WORK not just the finished things. The journey from the first idea, searching, researching, drawing, sampling and eventually making the finished piece. You will be able to watch my work progress, or not; maybe by seeing this record people will come to value making that is manufactured by hand, heart and eye. In May 2010 I developed – Heart Space Studios ( from my yoga practice “Put your Hands in your Heart Space”) and for 5 years it was a space in Bristol England for all things textile. The activities at the studios can still be viewed – I closed the studio workshops in 2015 – the classes remain on this site as part of the blog, they contain many of my most popular posts….. Heart Space Studios continues as a group of makers who develop projects primarily for publishing companies. Most notably we work with designer Kaffe Fassett in the production of his patchwork quilt books and other fabrics.
