For as long as I can remember there has always been thread in some form or another in my life. Be it stitching embroidery kits,a french knitting dolly or even hooking a rug when I was a child. I formalized my threadiness with a three year apprenticeship at The Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court Palace, receiving the best training in all aspects of hand embroidery. From goldwork to bothsides alike with canvas work, stumpwork, beadwork, jacobean and many other wonderful techniques thrown in for good measure. Upon completing my apprenticeship I went to work for Jimmy Choo couture and the Jim Henson Company. I also have had the privilege to be responsible for pieces for the likes of Prince Charles, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Sultan and Sultana of Pehang, The Sultan of Brunei, the AA, Acorn Designs Ltd, Adidas, , Barbara Clark, Barbara Windsor, Ben de Lisi, Bruce Oldfield, The Beckhams, Catherine Walker, Chanticleer, Clemonts Ribeino, Colefax and Fowler, Dame Edna Everage, Dizzy Rascal, Estelle, Hardy Aimes, Irish Rugby Union, Jasper Conran, Jenny Dyer, John Lobb Ltd, Julia Taylor, Kevin Arpino, Kylie Minogue, Lady Sovereign, Lipsy, Lennox Lewis, Lesley Cutler, Marion Thomas, Miss Dynamite, Robinson and Valentine, Sassi Holford, Sharon Bowen, Sharon Cunningham, Sharon Osborne, Shirin Cashmere, Steven Hakes, So Solid Crew, Thomas Pinks, Tristan Webber, Turnball and Asser, Ulrich Engler, Victoria Bain, also theater productions such as An Inspector Calls, Lion King, Miss Saigon and Romeo and Juliet amongst others. Our aim is to support and preserve the Hungarian culture and heritage, furthermore promote the cultural heritage for the benefit of the Hungarian and European public. In line with our constitution we also support Hungarian communities in the UK to integrate and contribute to the wider society. HC&HS OBJECTS To advance Hungarian arts (and crafts), Hungarian culture and heritage for the public benefit in particular but not exclusively in London by: (a) undertaking annual programmes of traditional music and dance; (b) preserving Hungarian historical traditions through running and supporting festivals and country/folk dancing; (c) promoting and supporting artists, craftsmen and craftsmanship (including beading, embroidery and carving); and by (d) providing grants, items and services to individuals in need of assistance which would allow them to further the purposes of this association.

Megan Crook is a self-taught textile guru. She has been expanding her craft for over 15 years. During this time, Megan has developed a cult following for her unique and eye-catching designs. From hand to machine knits and pattern cutting to tailoring, Megan inherently combines a multitude of techniques and is forever seeking more knowledge and experience. In 2018 Megan Crook Textiles was born, this brand focuses on machine embroidery and embellishment to create unique and individual surface patterns using mixed materials and novelty knitting yarns. The outcome is an inspiring array of colour and texture showcased across a range of accessories, interiors and bespoke garments all created by hand in her new studio in the heart of Nottingham. A lot goes into making every item. From sourcing, pattern drafting, grading, sampling, cutting, manufacturing, finishing, and photography. All of this is done in our Nottingham studio. I live and work in Solihull and am married with two boys. I have an obsessive love of sewing, which has driven my career through a wide range of sewing related experiences. I came from a family of sewers and from a very early age was encouraged to be creative. My love of embroidery and needlework led me to pursue a career in teaching. I attended a specialist needlework and home economics teacher training College in Liverpool. I always enjoyed "hands on work" and gained experience working with an expert team of fitting and alteration seamstresses at an exclusive dress shop the summer I finished at Liverpool. I wanted a creative career, so I applied for the position of wardrobe assistant at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. This was a wonderful work experience, sewing fabulous fabrics and making a diverse range of costumes. The theatre wardrobe mistress encouraged me to continue studying and I enrolled for a City and Guilds course. Although theatre working hours were long, they were flexible and I could study and work full time. I achieved merit for City and Guilds Creative Studies; two years later I received a distinction in Fashion and Design and won the year prize. My qualifications and experience opened another career opportunity in the fashion industry. I wanted to work fewer hours and the job I was offered provided training in production planning and buying. Working regular hours I decided to think again about the teaching career I had abandoned. I was employed by Birmingham Adult Education Department to work in evenings teaching Embroidery and Needlework. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching, so when I married and the family arrived I gave up full time work in industry. I returned to college, updated my teaching qualifications and became a part time teacher In the early 90's I wrote the Tailoring Programme for the West Midlands Access Foundation, later used by Open College Network. By 1996 I was determined to offer my own courses, now known as Gill Arnold Dressmaking Training. In 1997 I became Sewing World magazine's pattern specialist. Over 20 years teaching has given me a wealth of experience and knowledge to produce articles on patterns and fitting. I have also written for Sew Today and American publications. With the support of the sewing industry I enjoy being a regular exhibitor at shows all over the country including the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham. My yearly programme provides a full range of sewing events, exhibitions, seminars, cloth sales, trips and courses.

Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions we receive from parents of our new students: * We are a professional organisation and as such are the premier martial arts association in your area. * Yes, parents do see a marked improvement in concentration levels at school when children have been training with us for a period. * The above classes are for beginner grade children only. * Classes are structured to be fun yet disciplined. We have strict rules regarding fighting / play fighting outside of the classes! * All beginners train in their tracksuit bottoms and t-shirts, they will need a drink of water for during the class. * Our Karate Suits (Gi) cost £35 which includes delivery, white belt & embroidery of Association badge. You do not need to purchase this until you are happy that your child is going to continue their training for the foreseeable future. * Beginner class fees are £26 per calendar month, payable by standing order. We like to encourage students to train as much as possible and even though we only charge for one lesson per week, this fee allows unlimited training in any suitable class, but of course it is up to you how often your child trains! Fees are payable for every month of the year you are a member regardless of attendance. One months’ notice of cancellation in writing is required. * Fees are discounted where more than one direct family members are training! * Please note that once graded to intermediate level students are required to move up a class and train at least twice weekly whenever possible. Monthly fees do increase at Intermediate level. * If for any reason you miss your regular nights training, this can be made up any time at any suitable class within the Association without prior notice! * We do not have Mums, Dads or Guardians in the hall during classes as over the years we have found that children, especially the younger ones tend to join in and enjoy the classes so much more when Mum or Dad aren't looking on. * All Martial Artists no matter how young or old must be licensed! This is a yearly fee, the first year’s licence fee is £27 and includes your Licence & record book, thereafter yearly fees are £22. * All children are taught not to bully and how not to be bullied! I am a Devon based textile artist creating contemporary textile art inspired by the coast and countryside. With no formal training I took up free motion machine embroidery in 2012 and over time I have gravitated towards textile art, developing my own unique style by using organza and net to give a soft watercolour feel to my work. Working loosely from photographs, but often directly from my imagination, each piece of my work evolves as it is created. I prefer not to use a sketchbook, instead allowing my creativity to guide me as each piece develops. Colour and texture are big influences for me and where possible I prefers to source up cycled textiles for their variety and individuality. I love the idea that these materials can be given a new purpose, and can be appreciated in a totally different way for many more years to come.
