Practical intelligence is often neither acknowledged nor respected, which results in many talented people's strengths not being recognised or nurtured, and as a consequence they loose self-confidence. Have a look at this TED talk for a reflection on education in our modern world. We live in a society where we are encouraged constantly to buy the new and disregard the old. This leads to a lack of care and respect for our surroundings and blinds us to the true worth of things. By striving to create something to the best of our ability and to see it through to the end, we learn to respect ourselves and our surroundings. In our fast-paced technology led world the art of the conversation is rapidly being side-lined in favour of the safety and anonymity of email and text. But what when we find ourselves in the situation of having a difficult conversation with a real human face to face? A recent study by Globis, the Japanese Graduate School of Management, revealed that 53% of respondents to their “Difficult conversations” survey consciously avoided any conversation where there was a chance of conflict. The reasons provided were lack of appropriate training and lack of experience. The need to reverse this trend through education is both timely and relevant. We aim to provide quality and affordable E-learning products which focus on all aspects of human behaviour for both business and personal relationships. This site has been called ‘the wilderness’ for a thousand years. It dates back to Saxon times when the Forest of Dean, the ancient woodland between the River Severn and the River Wye, was designated royal hunting forest. Looking from the vantage point of The Wilderness Centre down to the River Severn, you can clearly see the broad curves of the river heading out to the Bristol Channel. Over the course of a day you’ll see the tide ebb and flow - the second highest tidal range in the world - and be able to pick out the villages along the River’s bank that were once thriving Roman ports trading throughout the Mediterranean. The current house is Georgian, built in the early nineteenth century as a family home. In the early twentieth century the site became a children’s hospital, specialising in infectious diseases. In the 1960’s Gloucestershire County Council acquired The Wilderness Centre, turning it into an outdoors education and nature studies centre serving the county’s schools. Dan and Sophie Sturdy bought The Wilderness in 2015 as a key location in their vision for human potential and growth.

Dean Close School is a co-educational Boarding and Day School which provides continuity of education from age 2 to 18. The School was established in 1886, and is set in 50 acres of parkland in the centre of Cheltenham. Mother of 4, midwife and self confessed birth nerd. I had my first baby at 19 years, I started my midwifery training in 2010, started working as a qualified midwife for the NHS in 2014 and then continued to grow my family. That's over 12 years of either helping women in pregnancy and supporting them giving birth or experiencing it myself. Why? Not enough support and too much judgement I'm a big believer that birth isn't just a means to an end. It's the mark of the end of a pregnancy and the start of being a mother. You will always remember the day you give birth and how it makes you feel. It is your stepping stone into motherhood and can shape your experience of early motherhood and your relationship with your baby. Birth isn't just about one day. Birth matters. Yet, the support out there is lacking. The private antenatal education and hypnobirthing scene is filled to the brim with duff advice and opinions over evidence based advice. You can train to teach pregnant women about birth in just a 3 day course, without even having supported a single woman in labour.

Concern surrounding underachievement of young males was brought into sharp focus in 2007 by the independent REACH report. Sponsored by The Home Office, The Department for Communities and Local Government and The Department for Education and Families, the report explored the costs associated with the problems that can arise from a disadvantaged socio-economic background, in this case specifically for young black males. These costs are associated with over-representation in the Criminal Justice System and reduced gross earnings and taxes associated with educational underachievement. They are estimated at £808 million a year and could amount to £24 billion over the next 50 years if the underlying issues are not addressed. From a working-class background himself, Clive attributes his corporate career success to hard work and maintaining a positive attitude. A key finding of the REACH report was a lack of positive male role models, particularly black male role models, in the media and the lives of young men. Clive knows from experience that the socio-economic gap to success can be bridged – he has held a number of senior level HR positions, is a company director and was awarded an OBE in 2010 for his contributions to the REACH report and the workplace mediation industry. Thus his involvement in the REACH report, together with his own personal experience, has inspired the development of the Bridge Builders Mentoring Scheme.

This will be achieved through activities, which include the strategic design and delivery of interactive and engaging programmes of study through to small online skills based learning courses (eg MOOCs), or through active support of and advice about an institutions’ innovation and change agenda. Background The journey of today’s learners in the 21st century needs to reflect a world where shifting job roles and new technologies will impact significantly on career development. This is underpinned by current estimates about new millenials: They are estimated to work in some 15 to 20 job roles over their lifetime, The majority expect to work beyond 65 years of age (and 12% until they die), It is estimated that 65% of today’s school children will work in a job that doesn’t yet exist. Having the necessary skills and up to date knowledge and understanding to underpin multiple job roles over a lifetime will require a commitment to lifelong learning. With increasing state pension ages and average life expectancy worldwide this drives the need for educational solutions to support individuals gaining access to the right job roles and career development. Traditional models of higher education are increasingly costly for learners in developed markets and short of supply (and out of reach in terms of price) for learners in emerging economies. Innovative solutions are needed.

The Diocese of Gloucester Academies Trust (DGAT) is a multi-academy trust established by the Diocesan Board of Education (DBE) in 2012. The Trust is part of the wider family of Church of England schools in the Diocese of Gloucester. More information about Diocesan Schools can be found here. Our purpose is to provide children of all faiths and none, with excellent educational provision which transforms lives within a caring and supportive Christian ethos. Our family of schools is fully inclusive and welcoming to all. There are currently 18 primary schools and one infant school within the Trust. Eighteen of the 19 academies have a religious designation as Church of England schools. All of the academies are located in Gloucestershire Local Authority. Supporting the spiritual, moral, social, cultural and physical development of each child, as well as maximising their progress, achievement and attainment to ensure their intellectual growth, is key. In tandem with this is the drive to support and develop the staff within the family of schools. In order to build strong learning communities, the Trust ensures that schools are confident and outward-facing in all that they do, building strong, effective links with parents, parishes, local schools, community groups and the wider educational community. The Trust has a high level of expertise in school improvement at a central level and within individual schools. This is used to support schools on their journey towards outstanding.
