Established in 1968, now with over 1000 students and 70 full-time staff, we have evolved into one of the leading Law Schools in the UK. Our teaching standards and research quality consistently receive high ratings, and we maintain a strong research culture with all staff actively researching in their preferred areas. Over the last 40 years we have developed a contextual approach to legal education which avoids treating the law as if it can be separated from other aspects of society. Students examine the impact of economic, cultural and political change on law and consider how it affects life beyond the court-room and the lawyer's office, as well as studying legal judgments and statutes. We also pride ourselves on providing excellent teaching. A significant number of colleagues have received a Warwick Award for Teaching Excellence – Dallal Stevens in 2011, James Harrison in 2011, Gary Watt in 2009 and Paul Raffield in 2008; in addition, Philip Kaisary and Jane Bryan received commendations in 2015 and 2014 respectively, and James Harrison received the Butterworth Award for Teaching Excellence in 2011. A number of our postgraduate research students have also received the equivalent award – Tim Dodsworth in 2013 and Adam Slavny (now an Assistant Professor) in 2012, with Natalie Byrom being commended in 2014. A number of colleagues are fellows of the national Higher Education AcademyLink opens in a new window (HEA). The HEA has also awarded National Teaching Fellowships (NFT) to Paul Raffield and Gary Watt in recognition of their outstanding achievements in teaching. Since there are only 500 NTFs across the UK as a whole, and 9 at Warwick, we are proud to host two of them. We encourage a comparative and international perspective on law which influences our undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Our staff and student body reflects this perspective, with students from twenty or more countries studying here at any one time, and teaching staff with varied backgrounds and extensive international experience or research interests.

My name is Carmela, I am Italian and I hold a full English teaching qualification in Post Compulsory Education and Training (Cert.Ed.)and a Qualified Teaching and Learning Status (QTLS).I also have a BA degree in Post Compulsory Education and Training from Warwick University. I have been teaching Italian for over ten years privately and for colleges. I have taught Italian at the Brasshouse language centre in Birmingham, at North Warwickshire & Hinckley College and South Staffordshire College as well as delivering training for companies such as EXD Ltd. in Coventry, Arlani in Burton, Redrock in Birmingham and for private groups, reaching areas in the West Midlands, from Birmingham to Coventry, Warwick to Lichfield and Solihull. ITALIAN LANGUAGE CULTURE AND COOKING WORKSHOPS- ABOUT ME I grew up in a small village in a traditional Neapolitan family where we prepared local and classical Italian dishes, growing and preserving most of the food we ate. Preparing pasta or gnocchi for our Sunday lunch was a family get together event! We all helped and learned how to make things in a traditional way. During the major festivities such as Christmas and Easter the food preparation took weeks and families and friends exchanged their creations: Struffoli, Panettone and Pandoro at Christmas; Pastiera, Tortano or Casatiello at Easter; for Carnival we made Chiacchiere, and for father’s days Zeppole. There were times when we all went to zia’s house to cook pizza and bread in her stone oven… every occasion was special and gave us an excuse to prepare a traditional dish. Therefore, my love for the food and food preparation grew thanks to the area I was born and my family’s customs. When later I travelled as a student, I exchanged recipes with other people and grandmas from Sicily, Puglia and Tuscany. Therefore, the Italian cooking workshop is an opportunity for me to share with you, in my kitchen, what I have learned, and recreate together an authentic Italian experience.

I was immensely proud to be appointed Principal of The Edge in 2018 and am thoroughly enjoying what is now my fifth year in role- I live locally, was born and bred in Northfield and have a great affinity for the academy having initially joined it as Vice Principal before becoming Principal. As an ex-English teacher in a busy secondary school and a current Guide Leader, Gemma can bring those skills into her dance and drama lessons to make them fun but purposeful. Gemma currently teaches Street, Freestyle, Musical Theatre / Drama and Ballroom / Latin classes with the support of other teachers and dance coaches. Gemma is continuing to develop her own personal portfolio whilst supporting other students and trainee teachers along their own dance pathways. Current qualifications include: Fellow with the IDTA with qualifications in Freestyle, Latin, Ballroom, Rock 'n' Roll and Musical Theatre; ABD Acrobatic Dance, IDTA Anatomy and Physiology Diploma. Emily Harris, Teacher Emily (BA Hons) joined our team in 2017 and is packed with enthusiasm. Whilst her speciality is Ballroom and Latin, she is also qualified in Freestyle and happy to help in all genres. Emily has been dancing from the tender age of 3 with experience in ballet and tap as well as the above mentioned styles and is keen to share her knowledge and enthusiasm with other dancers. Her degree in education and special needs is just another asset she brings to our academy, further enhancing our inclusivity policy. DBS checked annually and First Aid trained. Jordanne Wood, Teacher Jordanne has been dancing since she was 2 years old with experience in all theatre subjects including ballet, tap, theatre craft, modern jazz, acro gymnastics and cheerleading. She attended the Pattisons College of Performing Arts in Coventry. She soon went on to complete her IDTA professional qualifications and then went into teaching full time. She also has a young child of her own bringing her maternal instincts into class. Like many of our teachers, Jordanne is continuing to work through more IDTA dance qualifications whilst she is teaching with the aim of eventually becoming an IDTA examiner. Jordanne's current qualifications include associate with the IDTA in Freestyle, Ballet, Tap and Modern Jazz; BGU level 4 in Cheerleading. DBS checked and First Aid trained. Liam Pincher, Teacher Liam began his dance journey as a contemporary dancer, but slowly moved to street dance styles the more he learned about them.This took him to study an urban dance course in London, and even to study Urban Dance in America! Over the years, he has gained experience in a variety of street dance styles including hip hop, House, popping, locking, and breaking all whilst experiencing battle culture, performance opportunities and teaching. He's always very excited to have the opportunity to share everything he's learned with fellow dancers and has already made a positive impact on many of our students. DBS checked and First Aid trained. Emily Hunt, Teacher Emily started dancing at the age of three in Ballet, Tap and Jazz, gaining medals and performing in regular shows with her sister. Progressing through medals and competitions, Emily became a finalist in the 'British Amateur Junior Modern Sequence' at the age 14. Leaving the competition world behind she began studies for her Pre-Associate exam in 2010 where she won the 'Bill Tasker Award' before proceeding on to her Associate exams where she was nominated for the 'John Dilworth Award'. Emily has a 2:1 Ba Hons degree in 'Professional Dance Teaching' from Buckinghamshire New University as well as her IDTA professional awards. Her specialism is Classical Sequence but she is also an experienced Ballroom, Latin and Freestyle teacher. DBS checked and First Aid trained. Dance Coaches We are really lucky to have a group of amazing volunteers who assist with our classes. Aged only 12-18, these girls have a fabulous rapport with our other students and can be essential in making new members feel welcome and helping less experienced dancers with steps. They all undergo First Aid Training and have DBS checks at the appropriate age.
