The team at Blade Education highly values lived experience as a central part of any successful project. We believe that the answers to many issues begin with valuing what members of any community can tell us about what they need for a successful outcome. Wherever possible, we hold lessons, sessions, and events outside. All ages and all kinds of people get involved in Blade Education projects. People have volunteered for us from the age of 8 to 103. From HMS Leigh, a community led heritage and arts project that connected people of all ages with the history of Southend Pier, also known as HMS Leigh, during WW2. Supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Arts Council and Southend Borough Council, this project was created as part of the VE 75 celebrations in 2020 and survived to be one of the first post pandemic lockdown in person events in September 2021. Our latest project, Southend Safer Care Leavers has developed a free online information service for young people supporting the knowledge already given and ensuring they are ready to take charge of their own health care. Thanks to all our supporters and volunteers from a wide range of organisations and funders, Blade Education for nearly two decades has been able to offer wonderful learning experiences to thousands of children, families, and the general public. Founded in 1971, it is one of Canada’s first artist-run centres and its oldest media arts centre. We are a not-for-profit, charitable organization. For 50 years, Trinity Square has been a champion of media arts practices. Our activities are guided by a goal to increase our members’ and audiences’ understanding and imagination of what media arts practices can be. Trinity Square strives to create supportive environments, encouraging artistic and curatorial experimentation that challenge medium specificity through education, production and presentation supports. As video-based practices have become increasingly present across disciplines, Trinity Square engages artists and curators in critical investigations into the changing conditions of perception, materiality and the virtual. We consider all of our artistic activities and structures through a process of critical self-reflection, continuously evaluating the ethical positioning of our programming, jury structures, inter-organizational relationships, et cetera. In addition to holding aesthetic worth in its own right, our artistic programming extends our education and production activities in order to generate new knowledges. Trinity Square’s programming is guided by three priorities: 1) promoting an expanded definition of media arts; 2) promoting the meaningful engagement of diverse voices in all levels of our operations; and 3) supporting and nurturing the production of new works by artists and curators. Our membership represents the diversity of the city and honours the original mandate of the organization—seeking to reduce barriers to access related to race, gender, sexual orientation, and socio- economic and physical ability.

In 2001 the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) established their own College, ABDO College, as a centre of excellence raising the standards in optical education for the whole profession. ABDO College is based in Godmersham, Kent and specialises in distance and blended learning education for the optical profession. It is the only college in the UK devoted solely to the teaching of the theory and practical aspects of ophthalmic dispensing and its related specialist areas. Offering a range of courses through Access, Diploma, Degree, Advanced and Honours levels, ABDO College provides members of the Association with quality programmes leading to ABDO examinations. It gives members the opportunity to enhance their own knowledge and career progression and enables development for practice staff at many levels. At the College, devotion and care are coupled with extensive professional knowledge to equip students with the understanding and skills for their chosen progression.
